The Island of Malta: Megaliths, medieval dungeons and Calypso's Cave – The Maltese Islands are positively mythic. The narrow meandering streets of their towns and villages are crowded with Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque palaces. As the countryside is dotted with the oldest known human structures in the world, the Islands have rightly been described as an open-air museum. The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the centre of the Mediterranean. With superbly sunny weather, expansive beaches, a thriving night life and 7,000 years of intriguing history, there is a great deal to see and do. With a little help from any guidebook, captivating places of interest are immediately identified – the world famous Hypogeum selected as a place of World Heritage by UNESCO, prehistoric temples and grand palaces are but a few. True to the melting pot of cultural influences, the national languages are English and Maltese.

How to get there: Brithish Jet and RyanAir fly to Malta on low cost daily flights from the UK and Ireland. Malta's national airline, Air Malta have numerous scheduled flights daily from Heathrow and Gatwick besides several other frequent flights from several UK airports, like Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Airmalta has scheduled flights from practically every country in the EU.

The Maltese Islands are not very large, which makes getting around relatively trouble-free.

The public bus service on Malta and Gozo is a good way to get around as buses serve the major tourist areas, go practically everywhere and are cheap and efficient. The longest bus journey takes about fifty minutes; the average ride is between twenty and thirty minutes.

A regular ferry service links Malta to Gozo, taking about 20 minutes each way. A sea plane service links Grand Harbour in Valletta to Mgarr Harbour in Gozo.

Very Good! 4/5 -

Not quite as luxurious as advertised!

  • 3 of 5

The location and view is fabulous and parking is easy on the street right below (Xaft Juan B. Azopardo). When taking a taxi have then drop you off at St Philipo church in Senglea).

It is incredible to sit on the balcony enjoying the view of Valetta and watch the boats and cruise ships slide into the harbor. The narrow balcony only gets sun early in the morning. While the view is grandiose, the apartment needs a lot of maintenance! There are broken toilet seats, there is no hairdryer, as listed, and absolutely no plug or hooks in the master bathroom and unfortunately only a tub with handheld shower wand which makes it impossible to shower without soaking everything around you. The balcony doors don’t seal and there is a constant whistle of cold air coming through the doors. The second bathroom floods after using the shower and the toilets barely flush. The whole apartment and bedding (such as comforters) could also use a thorough cleaning--it is quite dirty. It’s not quite a luxurious as we had expected for the price! Doreen, the housekeeper, was very helpful and quick to respond when we had an issue. The views and the sunsets are grandiose and Senglea is an excellent location and much more authentic then Sliema.

5 star view, amazing!

  • 4 of 5

Senglea is part of the old 3 cities and in our view the most spectacular part of Malta. So much history, architecture and character. The apartment has the best of both worlds regarding location. On the Senglea waterfront offering the most spectacular views over the Grand Harbour and also part of the old, narrow, winding streets of the old city. A beautiful garden and shops are all within walking distance as is a beautiful square complete with domed church. Lovely restaurants and bars are all within walking distance, we preferred the restaurants across the bridge in Vittoriosa. It is easy to reach all areas of Malta either by bus or ferry from Senglea. The apartment is comfortable and stylishly decorated but is a little tired and does require some work. The balcony runs across the living room/kitchen area & master bedroom, ensuring you see those amazing views from most areas of the apartment. However, the balcony is only in the sun early morning until 9.30am. Keith the owner responds and deals with issues quickly. We would highly recommend Senglea as a base for historical Malta and with maintenance/cleaning issues resolved we would recommend this apartment.

A Little Piece of Heaven and History

  • 5 of 5

How can one surpass the superlatives already used to describe this fabulous place? It's stylish, comfortable, embracing - what a great surprise to have a starter pack in the fridge after 36 hours of flying from Australia that includes bread, butter, eggs, bacon and conserves.

Keith was incredibly easy to deal with and his housekeeper Doreen is a friendly darling.

But perhaps the most mind-blowing experience was to be able to sit in the sitting room and look at Fort St Angleo, the remnants of Fort St Elmo and know you are sitting close to the site that was Fort St Michael and see the scale of the battle that was fought during the Siege of Malta - across that narrow waterway was where the Knights of St John pulled up their great chain to protect the Great Harbour from invaders, there was where thee Knights and their extraordinarily brave Maltese soldiers died to the last man as they defended St Elmo against the odds for over 30 days. Imagine 6000 Knights, soldiers and Maltese people prevailing over 30,000 Ottomans.

The other fantastic aspect to this apartment stat you are within walking distance of the old town of the Knights of St John - Birgu, renamed Vittoriosa after the Siege - and just a short ferry ride from Valetta.

We enjoyed walking down along the waterfront and eating delicious meals so close to "home", admiring the extraordinarily beautifully decorated fishing boats and watching the older men sharing stories of memories and the fish that got away.

I can't recommend this place more highly and will work to trying to return soon.

Absolutely Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

What can I say?

From the moment you walk in, the place is stunning. Very tastefully put together with all mod cons, mood lighting, his & hers sinks and a walk in wardrobe.

Then.... You open the full room length windows exposing you to one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see!

My only mistake was not to book it for the whole month...

I can't finish without mentioning Doreen who is the grooviest, friendliest most welcoming lady.

Thank you so much for sharing this place.

Sandy & Sophy...

Amazing Apartment A++++++ better than 5 star

  • 5 of 5

Keith - your apartment is just amazing, the location and views are second to none. Your warm welcome was amazing. Have booked other apartments on here but this was by far the easiest, best and one that I will come back to. We were a young couple with a 3 year old boy. Could not have asked for a better equipped apartment. Location was excellent. Highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying in Malta. The English speaking TV was a massive hit. We would definitely stay here again, although can I say, 3 nights here was far too short. We could have stayed in the apartment for 2 weeks at least. Can't wait to come back. Just a short walk to the little shop where food/drinks etc are very cheap. Short stroll along the water front to cafe's and restaurants and karoke! walk to the Church and you can catch a bus into Valetta and then onto Sliema if you wish. We found the water taxi to be a great mode of transport. Coffee machine was an added bonus - fresh hot coffee on the balcony was amazing. Seeing all the cruise liners come in and out of Port was a great experience and seeing the canon fired each day was spectacular. Just up the road to the left of the apartment is the Hop on Hop Off bus stop. We could have just spent a week not leaving the apartment - just admiring the views and relaxing. Keiths welcome pack was also really appreciated. It meant we didn't have to go searching for a shop straight away, we had enough supplies for breakfast and lunches for the first couple of days. We didn't receive anything like that from any other apartment we stayed in, and we have stayed through France and Italy and the UK, so this was a very nice treat. The apartment is nice and quiet, so sleeping was great, beds were comfortable and bathrooms were very modern and luxurious. The whole apartment is very tastefully decorated (looks a lot like my house) All in all, we had a wonderful stay and would highly, highly recommend this apartment to anyone considering a trip to Malta.. if you do get to Malta, make sure you find Tony "oki koki" Mr Crazy Banis.. he runs the speed boat and does a fantastically memorable day trip up to the Blue Lagoon.. Not to be missed, you will not be sorry paying the bit extra than going with the cruise ships to blue lagoon. Tony gets you there much quicker and you will remember him forever. We highly recommend this apartment to anyone staying in Malta and can't wait to come back for more than 3 nights... Keith also has an apartment in Senglea 3 bdrm :)

Preis-Leistung stimmt NICHT

  • 2 of 5

Schade. Wir hatten uns so gefreut, uns mal was richtig Schönes zu leisten.

Senglea is a fortified city in the east of Malta, mainly in the Grand Harbour area. It is one of the Three Cities, with the other two being Cospicua and Vittoriosa. The city of Senglea is also called Civitas Invicta, because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of 1565. The proper name is Senglea since the grandmaster who built it Claude De La Sengle, gave this city a part of his name.

The island was in fact joined by a land bridge to Cospicua during the time of the Knights of St. John and as a result, it became peninsular in shape. During the time of the Knights of St. John, Senglea was also used as a hunting area, and was in fact known as L'Isola di San Giuliano, but later it was developed and made inhabitable by the Grand Master, Claude de la Sengle who built fortifications following a Turkish invasion in 1551. The locality eventually became known as Senglea but retained its old name Isla.

Golf: Extract from Royal Malta golf club Website:

'The Royal Malta Golf Club is a private Members' Club founded in 1888. The club has seen many changes since its inception, when it was primarily set up as a facility for British servicemen stationed in Malta. Whilst essentially a members club we always try to give a warm welcome to all visitors who share our love of the game.

We have invested heavily in the golf course over recent years and feel that our 'product' is coming together nicely with the next project to be undertaken by the Board of Management likely to be a refurbishment of our club house.

Whether you are planning a visit to Malta or are already a member of the RMGC, I hope you will find the web site of interest and it will expand further over the coming year so keep coming back.'
