About Patty Simpson

This property has always been family owned. It has been our favorite spot for summer vacations, homey Thanksgivings, beautiful snowy Christmases, and snowmobiling. My kids learned how to swim here with the gradually sloping sandy shore. We've spent hours building sand castles and telling stories around the campfire, with the waves lapping nearby. We hope our renters will enjoy the simple pleasures here as we have.

Why Patty Simpson chose Northern Michigan

This property is located on the desirable southern (naturally sugar sand) shore of the Bay. The house has a wonderful open floor plan with 2 walls filled with huge 10 foot windows that look out at the bay. The home has a vaulted ceiling, and a new kitchen. Only $2500 per week (Sat-Sat) Memorial Day through Labor Day.

What makes this house unique

The Beach access is easy with only 4 steps down to the sand, with a gentle slope down to shallow water that is so crystal clear, that you can still see your toes in the sandy bottom from chest deep water. Sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking, as is the setting at night with the stars crystal clear overhead as you sit around a campfire.

Ok I really don't want to write this review.. because I want

to keep this place all to myself. The owners are the nicest people. Even had smore supplies and a bottle of wonderful wine nwaiting for us!! If you are looking for a home depot remodel home this is not your place. The home is in a perfect location. The home is very unique with huge windows looking out at the bay and a beautiful stone fireplace a kitchen with everything you could ever possibly need. Everything was soooo comfortable . We were so content just staying the house and going to the beach. the area has so much to see and do. We are definaitely coming back next year.

Thank you again Patty for sharing your familys little slice of heaven with us!!!

Excellent Location - Very Clean and Convenient to Town

  • 4 of 5

The direct beach access with sandy lake bottoms on Sutton's Bay was amazing. The location is a 10-15 minute walk to shopping, food, and bike/kayak rentals. Less than 40 minutes from Traverse City, Grand Traverse Lighthouse, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Glen Arbor. The owners were very responsive to questions and had the place ready for an early check-in.

Cannot beat the view, as it looks directly out on open water in Lake Michigan. The walk to town is probably at the fringe of what anyone with small children would want to do - we made good use of our folding wagon on the trip. There was also a playground on the way to town. The Leelanau bike trail less than 5-minutes away.

The home was incredibly clean with everything fully functional. There are two large bedrooms with a shared half-bath and a third bedroom with direct deck access to the rear of the home. The bonus room is a pass-through between the two larger bedrooms and may not be appropriate for keeping small children who may be disturbed by foot traffic.

The kitchen is clean and well-equipped. There are more than enough dishes, pots, pans, etc. to satisfy any vacation cooking for a large family. Note that there only six kitchen chairs in the home. The outside table will seat 4-6 adults comfortably. The in-unit laundry was a great benefit and allowed us to pack less for the trip up.

The owners left a binder with menus and things to do. We took a few liberties in adding updated menus and removing those from places no longer in business. The home is serviced by DirecTV and high-speed internet. Internet speed was slightly less than what is needed for video streaming, but more than adequate for checking e-mail, unplugging, and forgetting what day of the week it was.

I would consider staying here again, but stuck with a 4-Star rating based on the following: 1) Indoor water quality - the water had a slight sulfur smell, but was softened - Bring bottled water if the taste bothers you. Also, If someone flushes a toilet, the person in the shower may be burned. 2) Cleaning Supplies - While abundant, they were scattered through the house, which was not ideal for children - We moved most to the laundry cabinets. 3) Shower, Not a Tub - Fully Functional, but small and not necessarily great for little ones. 4) Clothes Line gets hit by yard irrigation - Learned that the hard way. 5) Can use more towel hooks.

Overall, a Very Good property we will consider again on our next trip.

Great cottage experience!

  • 5 of 5

Great time at the cottage. Everything was extremely clean and ready for us. Kitchen had great amenities with a gas stove! Such a great location and just foot steps across the street to our own private beach! Had a blast enjoying the sights! A perfect location to see the Leelanau Peninsula!

A great vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great stay here. The owners were very responsive and accommodating. We were traveling with a toddler and a newborn, and they made sure to provide us with a crib. They even had a generous welcome basket and lots of necessities, more than some hotels provide.

The beach felt very private, which was nice. You have to cross a street, but it was not a very busy one. Fire wood was even provided for us, along with beach chairs and toys.

Suttons bay was the perfect location for us. The town itself is adorable, and we enjoyed the restaurants and several trips to the ice cream shop. However, the location was also the perfect spot to enjoy jaunts around the area. traverse city was only 20 minutes away, and a lot of the other towns along the peninsula were nearby too.

We hope to return again, and maybe we will stay for two weeks this time!

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Three of my friends and I stayed at this house for a mini-college reunion. We all loved it. It is spotless and everything is well-maintained. We all had our own bedrooms with clean, comfortable beds. The beach is gorgeous with great views. We took several trips to towns in the surrounding area and everything was within a 20 minute drive. Suttons Bay is adorable and has great restaurants and shopping. There is also a full grocery store. The owner is very nice and assisted us with questions about the area. She was also very timely with getting us a contract. I almost hate to recommend this place to others because selfishly we all want to come back next year and want to make sure we get the weekend we want. If you do rent this place, you will think it's a treasure you booked it.

Family vacation, July of 2013.

  • 5 of 5

This home met our needs very well. We lacked nothing in the way of kitchen utensil , linens and towels or home entertainment. The home was neat and well organized. The beach was great. We had our boat in a slip at the Municipal Marina which was minutes away. The fishing was very good, the local restaurants were delicious, the wine tasting was lots of fun, the golf courses for several of our family were tough, and the weather and casinos were kind. All in all one of the best family vacations we have enjoyed in the Sutton's Bay area. We were six adults but I would recommend this to any family who enjoys a quiet, restful vacation with something for everyone.
