Welcome to Mountain Vista at Stone Haven, a charming hideaway that is the ideal setting for your Acadia vacation. Nestled on top of a quiet mountain, this cozy and rustic cabin is tucked away from the rush of traffic and bustle of downtown, yet is very close to Acadia National Park, the ocean and Bar Harbor’s tourist area.
The cabin is completely furnished, and includes a charcoal grill and well-equipped kitchen (including a lobster pot!) so you can prepare your own meals. Enjoy the woodsy setting while you sip your coffee from an Adirondack chair on the large wraparound deck.
The stone fireplace makes for romantic evenings, and the sliding glass doors allow for gentle breezes. At night, enjoy your very own fire pit in the backyard, perfect for stargazing and making s’mores. Two bedrooms and a sleeper sofa are inviting and warm retreats after a long day exploring.
Whether you spend your time relaxing or doing any number of outdoor activities, such as biking, hiking or kayaking, returning to Mountain Vista each day will feel like coming home. We thank you for considering Mountain Vista for your Maine escape!
We are the happy owners of Mountain Vista at Stone Haven. Before we became the owners of this property, we were summer renters at Stone Haven, and returned year after year for its simple beauty and solitude. We are looking forward to sharing our home with you and hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Thank you for considering us. ~ Donna & Dave
We live in a very busy city during the rest of the year, and the peace and quiet of the setting at Stone Haven really speaks to us. We are amazed how dark it gets at night and how many stars you can see. We do not have that in the city, that is for sure!
Our favorite activities are sitting by the fire -- whether it's the fireplace in the living room, or the fire pit outside. We've boiled many lobsters, and probably grilled one too many hot dogs. We cannot imagine a deck without an Adirondack chair, so comfortable chairs were some of our first investments. We love how close Acadia is to the cottage. The park has so many great hikes. If you are a photographer or nature-lover, it's hard not to be impressed. Downtown Bar Harbor is great, too, for sight-seeing, shopping and if you'd like to take a cruise. And, of course, we were thrilled that our dog was allowed to stay with us when we rented, so when we bought this place, we wanted to ensure it was dog-friendly for our guests. We wish you a wonderful and memorable vacation!
We arrived to find the house to be exactly as described and pictured. The house was comfortable and perfect for our week at Acadia. We were maybe five minutes from the Cadillac entrance to Acadia and a ten minute drive at most to down town Bar Harbor- perfect location! The trail for Connors Nubble is a five minute drive down the road (if that) at the carridge road parking- great trail and SO CLOSE!!! The cabin had everything we needed to make lobsters and steamers, the grill was great, and the fire pit was perfect for smores and relaxing after a day of hiking. Plenty of blankets and even pans to make blueberry cobbler! Plenty of room for my hubby and I and our two corgis- even on a rainy afternoon - comfortable and cozy!
The cabin was just perfect for what we were looking for. We loved the location and the fire pit. We broke up our vacation so two of us were there for half the week, then later all 4 of us with the dog for the rest of the week and it was still comfortable. Also the book with all the area activities was nice - we enjoyed the Improv Acadia show and Nature cruise in Bar Harbor. We'd definitely stay there again - thanks so much!
This great little house ruined us for staying at a hotel for vacation ever again. It is nestled so close to the park and Bar Harbor...we did a quick trip to Cadillac Mountain just to watch the sun set! We cooked most of our breakfast and dinners there. All you have to supply is the food because everything else you could need is there. The beds are comfortable and they have a choice of different "feel" of pillows for a comfy sleep. Having the deck and the fire pit was a plus too. You get that camping feel without having to actual rough it! And there's a doggie door for your furry friend!!!!
Had a great stay for my first time in Bar Harbor. Perfectly located being minutes from Bar Harbor but also far enough to feel extremely quiet and unplugged. Owners extremely helpful and informative.
We had a wonderful week exploring Acadia and Mount Desert Island, and Donna and Dave's cottage in the woods was a great base. The cabin borders Acadia and is minutes from great parts of the park, such as the Eagle Lake carriage trail and the entrance to Cadillac mountain. While the cabin is less than ten minutes to Bar Harbor, its location near the top of Sommes Sound makes for easy access to both Northeast Harbor and Southeast Harbor.
While the cabin was small, the common area (living room and kitchen with table) had high ceilings and was light and airy. One of the bedrooms opened on to the wrap-around deck, which was our favorite place to relax after a day exploring. It was also fun to use the fire pit at night. In the cabin, there was a helpful book with local menus and other local recommendations and resources, including dog friendly spots for our canine family member. We would happily vacation there again.
Our stay was exactly what we wanted! From beginning to end the rental process was so smooth and easy and Donna was so kind and personable. My husband and I were on vacation to celebrate our anniversary and when we arrived at the cottage we were greeted with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a touching card from our hosts, such a wonderful little gesture. The cottage had a great location, very close to Acadia and to the carriage trails. Only about a 10 min drive into Bar Harbor which was great for us, we could enjoy the town for the day then the quiet of the evening at the cottage with a cook out. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone!
