Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Tulip House. The home was super cozy and clean, as well as fully stocked with everything you would need, including paper products like paper towels, TP, etc. The bathrooms even have soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.! We didn't do a lot of cooking but the kitchen is fully stocked as well. We really enjoyed watching some of 90's movies, and there were plenty to pick from. The owner was especially accommodating and friendly. There's a great trail you can walk to that connects to the App Trail and Pisgah. We drove just a couple miles to a really cool bald with a beautiful view. We would definitely stay again! Thank you!

Perfect mountain escape!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed here with friends. The house and location are perfect!! The beds are very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen is well stocked with every utensil we needed to cook in and grill out. We were greeted by a small band of deer in the morning! Very easy ride down to Weaverville and Asheville. We will definitely be back!!!

They thought of EVERYTHING...

  • 5 of 5

The McMillan's have outfitted the Tulip House with everything you need, so our advice to you is don't stop at Ingles on the way, for you may unnecessarily duplicate what is already waiting for you in the way of paper goods, garbage bags, dishwasher soap, cleaning things, etc. Just bring your food. Otherwise, it's all there (though they may not object to your contributing to this cache!). They made us welcome and secure. Their home was clean and ready, with plenty of sleeping space for the eight in our family, including 3 grandchildren. Those active boys enjoyed the pool table in the lower level as well as the dart board. A couple of them spent a lot of time discovering the electric keyboard. They led us (their grandparents) though a 3-mile hike from the trail head just up the road maybe 200 feet (but we did not make it all the way to the Appalachian Trail!). We were able to have Christmas Eve worship in front of the gas fireplace (around a real Christmas Tree!). We all ate our meals at the large 8-seat table. There were plenty of dishes, serving items, and pots and pans for meal preparation. We shared cooking and cleaning duties. Games, puzzles, and videos? You sure don't need to rent any. Besides we had ample access to Netflix and Hulo and other on-line video resources. Nobody need be bored! We surely appreciate the McMillan's sharing their home with us -- the best hosts are like them, meaning they welcomed us with their provisions and phone conversations, but they left us alone. Though we were concerned about the steep slope of the driveway, we needn't have been. However, note that if you go when snow and/or ice are on that driveway, you need to park up on or near the road (Hampton Gap) UNLESS you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. But we had no ice or snow so our Honda had no trouble in low gear. We have gone to North Carolina 4 out of the last 6 years for Christmas, and we want to say this was the best Christmas retreat we have enjoyed. All in all, the following four words sum up our review: "We would stay again."

The house was wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We hosted a small family reunion at the house, and we all thought that the amenities were great. We were so grateful how clean the property was and how the owners had gone out of their way to make the experience perfect.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

We gathered for a family Christmas celebration weekend with people from the east and the west. We did not expect the huge decorated Christmas tree and holiday decorations that added to our wonderful experience. There was everything there for our convenience and enjoyment!! Our 10 year old grandson was in heaven with all the games! Thank you!!
