We loved every moment of it
We loved our stay. Saffron Walden is beautiful village and this cottage is well suited for visitng Audley End house. We stayed for 3 nights and loved it. Cottage is beautifully decorated , we felt homely instantly. They got the right balance of personal touch without making you feel that you are encroaching on someone’s privacy, which is always my fear when thinking of staying at someone’s home. I think it is perfect for a couple for romantic break or even a family of three to four. The basement room is perfect for child as it is the quietest room and in summer heatwave the coolest room. It stayed a nice constant 21 degrees despite outside being nearly 30 C degrees. AS it is a period cottage it has narrow stairs so one just needs to be a bit more careful but it all adds to it’s charm. I stayed with my husband and 6 months old baby and we were fine carrying him up and down with care obviously. I personally think 4 adult people might struggle for space, plus the bathroom is through main bedroom so you really need to know each other to be comfortable for people to walk through your bedroom in night to use the loo. But for a family it is a fantastic little place. That is just my thoughts, different people have different preferences.
The owner is very considerate and anticipated our needs providing extra bedding for basement in case we needed to stay with our son. She also provided towels, soaps, ironing board, hair dryer, and basic food staples as bread, butter, eggs, milk juice , coffee , tea etc. There is virgin TV and wi-fi. Although on first look cottage seems small, it is full of clever crooks and crannies’ you can put your stuff in, so it does not feel like you have crowded the space. We do not travel light, and we tidied everything away including the pram with plenty of space still left. I have friends living in London in smaller places than this with two children. One disadvantage is, it is by a main road so it can be a bit noisy, but we all (including our baby) slept well. But if you are particularly sensitive to noise just bring ear plugs, I think the place is worth it despite the road noise.
Zuzana and her family would most definitely be welcome to stay again. It was a very straight forward booking, communication was excellent and they left the house very clean and tidy - thank you very much. We are so pleased they enjoyed their stay and the cottage and thank them for their positive feedback.
Lots of traffic noise unfortunately, also quite small. Parking a hassle.
Owners have made an effort on the interior but property is unfortunately located right on a mini-roundabout that heads up a hill so that cars have tendency to stop then accelerate up the hill, making it really quite noisy on the inside. We live in central London and this was very noisy relative!!! Ceilings quite low and staircases up to bedroom v. cramped. Parking not really convenient, you have to "get lucky" with parking nearby or take your chances parking as non-customer in nearby pub. Because its right on the roundabout, you can't park your car even for 30 seconds right in front, means that you have to park 50-100 metres away and lug your stuff. We came with small baby so lots of stuff to lug and this wasn't' a great way to start/end our trip. So, for our purposes, which was to get a pleasant charming getaway from London life, it wasn't a success. It is near centre of Saffron Walden though which was a plus.
Nice little cottage close to town centre.
Nice brake over christmas time. Cozy little place with all you need. My children loved it so much.
The price and the offering was in a good relation to our needs.
