La Maison Blanche is a devotedly restored two century old Chateau for those looking for a touch of class and a place with a special feeling. The Chateau is accessible by driving along the centuries old platane-lined lane. Once entering the monumental hall with its impressive staircase, the thick limestone walls warmly embrace you. Find yourself immersed in an ancient atmosphere...
This spacious property comes with a stunning view of the area and its rolling hills. The location is within easy walking distance (1.5 km) of the charming village of La Bachellerie (2 min. by car). An idyllic path will guide you to the baker for every days 'pain et croissants' and the best sponge cake and plum tart you have ever had.
The light filled condo on the first floor sleeps 2 - 6 people and has four large bedrooms with two bathrooms (one with a shower and one with a bathtub and separate shower and toilets on both floors). It has a large living room with huge fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. In the garden in the ancient park with rare trees you can enjoy breathtaking views of the scenic landscape.
The Chateau is perfectly located for exploring nearby medieval villages such as Montignac (famous prehistoric cave paintings Lascaux), Sarlat, Hautefort, Perigueux. The Vézere valley is famed for its cave systems, containing numerous cave paintings and hominid remains. Unesco designated these a World Heritage Site. The wine growing areas of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cahors are all within pleasant driving distance. The Chateau does not have a swimming pool on its own grounds. With plentiful outdoor luscious pastime you might just want to sitdown and take time to let it all sink in. However, should you want to take a dip in the water, at 1 km distance there is the communal pool of Azerat.
The resemblance with The White House in Washinton is striking. On your holiday at The French White House, you can enjoy the most beautiful landscape of the Perigord Noir in Dordogne, sip the finest wines and dine on traditional Perigord specialties.
You are most welcome in our home!
Many years ago we fell in love with the Dordogne region because of its's scenic landscape, which remind me of the rural area I was brought up in in Holland. After being tipped by a friend, we bought one of the five large apartments in the Chateau together with four other families. As it is designated as a 'Monument historique', the interior with its grand rooms and it's thick walls have remained in tact. Several years of careful restoration by craftsmen and with fine materials have made this home a piece of beauty.
The large windows provide scenic views from almost every room. The colours outside are a feast for the eyes all year round; brittle green in spring, a little fading in summer, indian summerlike in autumn and finally turning to waning tones in winter. This makes the yellow limestone houses - typical for the area - seem so completely at ease with their surroundings. This particular area is well known for its abundant sunshine. No wonder Cro-Magnon people started to make their appearance here 35.000 years ago and began development of their craft. We look forward to welcoming you!
We had a great stay in this charming castle. You feel the historical atmosphere.
The rooms are very spacious; it was really easy to get in with the six of us.
The environment is very green and quiet. With all the birds around us we felt at peace.
Almost every evening we had our dinner in the garden next to the castle, where we had our own private space.
In the surroundings there were a lot of activities. The children especially enjoyed the tree climbing park and we, of course, appreciated de wine tasting tour.
Yes, it was a very lovely holiday, we would be very happy to stay here again.
From start to finish our stay was divine. It would take an entire book to describe not only the cleanliness, good taste and comfort of the home created by the owners inside this really special château. The owner had left an incredibly well-documented file for us to find things to do and visit as well as delicious restaurants to go to and most importantly, a calendar of local events that made all the difference to our holiday: very personal and warm. I cannot recommend this rental most enthusiastically :-) PS: all the beds are crucially super comfortable. We'll be back soon.
In this most authentic French countryside with it's magical rolling hills, you will find Lascaux, Les Eyzies and Rouffignac and abundant other caves within close proximity. Many other prehistoric sites can be found along the Vezère river. There are numerous 'Plus beaux villages de France' like mondain Montignac, Sarlat 'pearl of the Perigord' or St-Amand-de-Coly, to name a few. Enjoy the fine architecture and magical views by just driving along the scenic country roads through woods or hills and along rivers. There are six golf courses in the surrounding area, and a tree-climbing park for the adventurous 8 min. drive away. Canoeing on the Vezere and lunch in St-Leon-Sur-Vezère... sheer joy. Or step out the front door of the Chateau and cross the courtyard for a walk in the woods, and further...
