INSIDE the gates of Yosemite National Park, the Johnson Family cabin is spacious, light-filled, peaceful and offers views of Half Dome, El Capitan and Clouds Rest! We are in Foresta, a quiet community of 30 homes located within the park, only 7 miles from the spectacular Yosemite Valley. Newly built in 2012, our home offers a clean, quiet, close getaway, centrally located to all Yosemite has to offer.

About Lloyd & Becca Johnson
My grandfather and a friend purchased the land in 1955 and built a cabin structure shortly after. I came to Yosemite with my family every summer as a boy and continued through college. There are many wonderful memories of our time at the cabin site. We have annual family reunions at Foresta with the 5th generation now attending. I grew up in Santa Cruz, California but now live in Bellingham, Washington. Now that the children (4) are grown, we split our time between home and Yosemite. I enjoy hiking around Yosemite and want to hike as many trails as I can.
Lloyd & Becca Johnson purchased this House in 1955
Why Lloyd & Becca Johnson chose Foresta
We feel very blessed to have a place to stay IN Yosemite National Park. There's no place like it. We love the peace and quiet, the majestic splendor, the numerous trails, the grandeur,... I really like the Sierra Nevada mountains.
What makes this House unique
The large, attached deck is big and wonderful for enjoying the outdoors. The cabin is full of light, open, comfortable and feels spacious for its size. We like the tile floor, We are one of a few private homes inside Yosemite that has views of the the valley's Half Dome, El Capitan and Cloud's Rest. Walking further up the road (5 minutes) gives you a scenic place to take photos with the Big Meadow and its historic barns, in the foreground and El Capitan and Half Dome in the background.

Cozy, beautiful escape from the crowds
My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights in late Dec. We have stayed in another place in Foresta before, but wanted something more open in architectural design. And since we both like separate beds which this place has (it's a snoring thing), this seemed like the right choice.
Winters are for sleeping in, slowly getting ready in the morning, being warm and cozy, enjoying the views, and then getting to the right trailhead with plenty of daylight to hike. And when the sun goes down fairly early and starts getting cold, one needs to have the ability to hang out, read, relax, and make a nice meal. That's what we loved about this place. Since it is only a few years since the house was built, it has all the amenities you could want--and they all work well. Water pressure and heat were excellent. Beds were comfy. Kitchen had just about everything. Impressive views. Short distances to almost everything you would want to visit in the Park (at least in winter).
In short, we were very happy with the Johnson Family Cabin in Foresta.
Private and beautiful
This was our first time at this property. We had previously stayed in three other houses in Foresta. This property is beautiful. Set away from neighbors, very quiet and peaceful. Huge deck which was very welcome. Beautiful view of El Capitan and Half Dome. Lots of room inside. Will definitely stay here again on our return.
Wonderful Property away from it all!
We loved how clean and comfortable your property was! Breakfast on the deck every morning was truly wonderful. The home is located in a very quiet neighborhood off the beaten path. The owner has thought of everything...we've rented several VRBOs before and this one was certainly top-notch. Simple things like ziplocs, Kleenex, condiments, and laundry tabs are such a plus in this area of the park since grocery stores are few and far between. The kitchen was stocked very well and beds and bedding were very comfy. The library of books on Yosemite was extensive and very helpful for us first-timers. We can't thank you enough for sharing your property with us. (As a sidenote, we moved south in the park for our last two nights to a property in Yosemite West that paled in comparison - we were spoiled!)
Thanks for hanging in there with all the uncertainty of the fires this summer. The timing work out really well for you.
BEAUTIFUL!! Perfect location
Located 31 minutes from Yosemite Valley Visitor Center, yet inside the park. No long lines to get into the park. Clean, welcoming, well stocked, peaceful home—not just a house. Wonderful library of books with local info on hikes, floral, etc., plenty of games for family time. Having the view of El Capitan and Half Dome made it extra special. We would stay here again. Strongly recommend this home if you want a peaceful location. Owners were very responsive to all questions or concerns.
Best cabin in Yosemite!
I can't say enough about how happy we are with our decision to stay at the Johnson Family Yosemite Cabin. It was super convenient to the valley, clean, spacious, and exceptionally well equipped. My son and his wife arrived before us and immediately texted us, "Best cabin in Yosemite!". My wife and I stayed a full week and our two son's and their wives stayed a few nights each. Even with 6 people, we had plenty of room (Note, however, that while it is billed as accommodating 6, there are only beds for 4. The nights we are all there, the third couple slept on a self-inflating queen size areobed in the loft.).
The owner, Lloyd Johnson, was great too. He promptly answered any questions we had before and during our stay. And he was a great resource for Yosemite hiking tips and advice.
During our stay, our hikes included Cloud's Rest from Tenaya Lake (Sunrise TH), Half Dome (from Happy Isles TH), Sentinel Dome / Taft Point loop (from Sentinel Dome TH), Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias, and the Panorama Trail from Glacier Point to the Valley (we took the Glacier Point bus one way). Other activities we enjoyed were an open air valley floor tram tour (at Lloyd's suggestion), a full moon hike to Taft Point (offered by the Yosemite Conservancy), and finally, finding a quite spot on the Merced River to just relax and energize.
Go ahead and book the Johnson Family Yosemite Cabin. You won't be disappointed.
A Mountain Masterpiece
I had a wonderful stay in this marvelous place. To my taste, it is the ultimate modern mountain cabin. Quiet, close to Yosemite Valley, pleasant views, tastefully furnished, impeccably designed, with all of the modern amenities. It reflects an exceptional care on the part of the owners. They have gone to a great deal of effort to create something truly special. If it were possible, I would give it 10 stars.
Both the Merced Grove and Tuolumne Grove are about 15-20 minutes away, for hikes through the majestic, tall, old-growth redwood tree groves
