This apartment was fantastic! Everything was extremely clean and there was a lot of space for the 3 members of our group. The beds were very comfortable and the private terrace had comfortable furniture and a great view. The host provided us everything we needed, including some basic breakfast food and wine. If you rent this apartment from Barbara, please ask for her recommendations. She sent us to two fabulous wine tasting rooms, and a great store to purchase truffles. Barbara also has parking at this apartment.
It should be noted that the apartment is across from a bank and a grocery store which is convenient. The walk to the city walls of Motovun is about 10-15 minutes long and it is uphill. The walk to the wineries is less than 5 minutes long and it is not uphill.
We would highly recommend staying with Barbara at this apartment. She was so kind and such a great hostess!!
We had a fabulous stay at this apartment in Motovun. Barbara was super accommodating and easy to get in touch with and quick to respond. The apartment itself is just how it looks on the site. We enjoyed the outdoor terrace, relaxing and watching the sunset over the rolling hills and vineyards of Istria with a bottle of wine. We cooked dinners most nights too, and the kitchen is well stocked for simple meals. Barbara even provided some snacks on arrival.
The town itself is beautiful, sitting on top of a hill. A car is recommended for exploring the region, and there is a gated parking area for the apartment, so no need to worry about parking on the street. The main part of town is a 10-15 minute walk up a steep hill. Luckily, there is a small market and a cash machine directly across the street from the apartment, ideal for grabbing some snacks or ingredients for dinner.
Since this is a truffle region, definitely check out Natura Tartufi if you want to go on a truffle hunt, located about 20 minutes away in Buzet. And since this is also wine country, there are nearby wineries that are open for tastings!
This apartment is everything it promises to be. Clean, bright and spacious, great view from the terrace, a well-equipped kitchen, and most of all, very friendly and efficient service by Barbara, the owner. A market and ATM right across the street and parking on location make it very practical. It's not right in the old town of Motovun but it's a pleasant stroll to get up there to restaurants and even more amazing views.
The aparment is on the main access road to Motovun, so you're basically less than an hour's drive from any point in Istria. The only drawback is that the place gets a little bit noisy early in the morning, but that's not really a problem; if you want to sleep in, just close the windows, they are very sound-proof.
So a definite thumbs up for this apartment and for Barbara !
Great apartment, all new and clean. Easy to find, friendly host Barbara was so nice, she gave us lot of information. We enjoyed our stay very much, all was as advertised, and in fact looked better then on photos, what was nice surprise.good location to explore Istria, as we were located in the middle of peninsula all was within half to one hour drive away.
We were so delighted to step into this beautiful apartment after a long and tiring day. The terrace was heaven and the apartment was clean, comfy and in the perfect location. Directly across the street was the grocer, butcher and bank, not to mention the stairs leading up through the amazing hill town of Motovun. This was by far the most romantic location during our two week honeymoon and I plan to come back to this apartment whenever we possibly get the chance. Barbara was very helpful and we loved everything about this rental. The garden out back was especially beautiful but we found ourselves so enchanted with the vineyard views from the terrace, along with the breeze from the third story and the perfect sunset view, that we never took advantage of the garden.
Another thing to mention is that Motovun really is the most amazing retreat. It certainly gave us a feel for the Istrian countryside and we had several terrific walks up the narrow stairways to the top of the city walls, as well as having delicious food from the restaurants up top. We were so grateful that we didn't go through with our original plan to stay on the coast as the drive to the coast was not far (Pula- about 50 minutes, Porec- about 20) and the overall ambiance of the countryside was so peaceful compared to those coastal cities, not to mention the incredible scenery and cooler temp!
Me and my family had a great time in this lovely apartment. Rooms are spacious and decorated with taste and no unnecessary furniture, with lot of room to move around. Kitchen is not too big but easy to use, and it was quote enough for four of us.
I liked the terrace that is large and is close to kitchen (very handy when taking out drinks and food). We use it a lot, especially at evenings with something to drink while you enjoy the scenery.
One thing that was really nice surprise was the garden we could use on the opposite side of the house. Garden has beautiful view over vineyards and hills that surround the Motovun. I enjoy it with a glass of vine while waiting for the sunset.
Many thanks to our hosts, especially Mrs. Barbara, who ,made our stay pleasant, and also on her patience for our questions and ideas how to get around and make a best out of our holidays as possible.
I recommend this apartment to couples, families as a pleasant, clean accommodation, with great features (garden, terrace I liked the most), well priced, and with helping hosts.
Apartment immaculately clean and well presented.
Well located about halfway up the hill upon which Motovun sits, a twenty minute stiff climb to top from apartment.
Convenience store and butcher’s shop just over road.
Our host Barbara was exceptionally friendly and helpful and always on hand to deal with any queries or problems we had.
The apartment has a pleasant garden area with a table and chairs available.
Two good size bedrooms in apartment.
Motovun is one of the most attractive medieval towns in Istria and a good base for exploring the region.
Lack of a lounge area with comfortable chairs was a problem. We went in April when the evenings were cool, so often spending the evening on the balcony was not an option. The only other place to sit was the kitchen and the chairs were not comfortable ones.
The kitchen was very small and there wasn’t much room for manoeuvre. This made cooking and washing up a bit difficult. There was also a light fitting in the kitchen from which a lamp dangled so low that we repeatedly hit our heads on it. This was rather an annoyance, and I am sure this could be easily remedied. There is no oven, but there is a hob with four electric rings.
The view from the balcony was not as good as we had hoped for; the balcony looks out onto the tourist agency car park and although some of the surrounding countryside can be seen, most of the vista is taken up by some large trees and the busy street which runs along the front of the property.
Noise from the street was a problem as there were some youths living nearby who seemed to spend most evenings tearing up and down on extremely noisy motorbikes.
While sitting on the balcony we would regularly experience strong smells of sewage which seemed to emanate from somewhere in the roof of the building. Barbara said that this was probably due to the way the building’s sewage system was designed and there was nothing that could be done to remedy it. I appreciate that this may be the case, but it was seriously unpleasant and definitely put us off from using the balcony.
I would say that this apartment is overpriced.
Unfortunately, although this apartment has many good points, it also has a number of significant negative points which mean that I would not be in a position to recommend it to other travellers.
Motovun is a unique magical medieval town-monument.
Arising on the 227 meters high hilltop, it represents an incomparable scene of a typical small medieval town of Istria made of stone and surrounded by annular walls that offer a stunning view on the surrounding vineyards and on the famous park-forest of Motovun rich in truffles.
