Recently renovated by a local green architect, this historic cottage is clean, bright and comfortable.
Enjoy the convenience of being in the “center of the action” for Arts and Crafts Festivals, Coastal BirdFest, Mardis Gras, or First Friday Art Walks and the serenity afforded by being one block removed from downtown on a quiet street with no through traffic.
A porch swing under a large live oak, screened porch, and grilling area welcome visitors to enjoy outdoor living in the mild coastal climate.
We stayed in May 2016 and loved it. It was really clean when we arrived. We have rented often from VRBO and this was the cleanest ever. Comfortable tastefully decorated and best location. We could walk to restaurants and the best book store ever...page and pallet. We would love to come back
I have stayed at Clay Cottage previously for a number of months. I loved my accommodations. A quiet dead end street. Modern appliances. Spotless and well arranged kitchen, bathroom, great room and bedroom. The large screened in side porch had very comfortable chairs to relax in. And there was a back yard grill with chairs on a concrete pad. The overreaching live oaks added to the southern charm of the area. The Cardinals were very entertaining at the birdfeeders. It is my place of choice to stay whenever I visit Fairhope.
We had spent one night in Fairhope 6 years ago and have always wanted to return. We found this cottage on VRBO and it sounded too good to be true. We rented it for the month of March. It was a great location, easy walk to the center of town, and the natural surroundings made it more special. Rebecca, Clay and their wonderfully polite children were so helpful and quickly responded to our questions. The interior of the cottage was spotless and well designed to make use of all the space. It's perfect for 2 people and worked when we had another couple visit for 5 days.
We enjoyed the town pier, the annual Art Festival, the library and all that Fairhope has to offer. Be sure to visit the 5 River Educational center on the Causeway and see their film Alabama Amazon, which was very interesting. Also, don't miss Ivey's Restaurant in Robertsville. It's well worth the 1/2 hour ride. Also, check out the Poet of Tolstoy Park's round house in the parking lot of a real estate office at Parker Road and 98.
My husband and I would return to Clay Cottage in a second. This was our first experience with Home Away and will set the standard for us in the future.

We looked at several properties before choosing the Clay Cottage and we were thrilled we did. The design details of the cottage are so inspiring. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, the bed was wonderful and a nice hot shower was great. We could walk into the sweet little town of Fairhope. We spent a month in Fairhope which was just perfect. There is so much to do in downtown Fairhope. Restaurants, bars, shopping, the library or we were happy to just relax in the cottage. Nice, safe, neighborhood. Parking right in front. Washer and dryer was very helpful. Wi-Fi service was great. Rebecca and Clay were excellent hosts. They were always available and responded quickly to some minor things we needed help with. We would definitely recommend this quaint, charming cottage in Fairhope.
We were 100% happy with everything about the cottage and the town of Fairhope. We were very happy with how clean and well maintained the cottage was - as others have commented it is even nicer than it look's in the photos! Rebecca and Clay are great hosts who made our stay especially memorable. We will be back!
