About Lisa or Alex

Originally from England, Alex and I moved to Belfast Maine after driving all the way around the world in a campervan looking for the perfect place to live. It took us 5 years to drive around the globe but only 2 visits to choose Belfast as our next home.

Both avid cooks, eaters and wine drinkers we live in our kitchen which we designed ourselves, much like the rest of our home, and love to shop locally for great ingredients to feed to our friends and family. We grow a small amount of veg in our raised beds but are still novices in this area after life on the road for so long. I run a small cooking blog and we still love to travel extensively, hence us sharing our amazing home with you.

Lisa or Alex purchased this house in 2015

Why Lisa or Alex chose Belfast

We fell instantly in love with the sunlight in this house. Originally built in 1906 the south facing property had been renovated in the 80's and its suspended ceilings, humongous stone chimney and gingerbread cottage style kitchen didn't deter us one bit. We could feel the potential in it the second we set foot inside and could feel the love that had always been present in the home so much so that we remain great friends with the family that owned it.

We completely modernized the house adding radiant heat, replacing the roof, horsehair plaster, electrics, insulation and windows. We have installed high-end bathrooms, furnishings and light-fittings that we adore and we absolutely love to live in this stunning, sunlit home. We think you will love it too.

What makes this house unique

The views from the house are simply breathtaking and impossibly calming. The light as it changes throughout the day is mesmerizing and as the sun sets the warm glow illuminates the original wood floors and absolutely restores your soul.

The porch is a great spot to enjoy the peace and tranquility and to watch the birds in the huge pine trees that made us name the home, The Spears. The biggest tree out front is a perfect climber and the one that you can see from the kitchen window has a tire swing, lovingly broken in by our nephews.

The wildflower meadow offers a constant supply of cut fresh flowers and a home for the bees which keep our veg plot healthy. If you are here when a glut of veg are available please help yourselves in exchange for doing a spot of watering during your stay.

Another unique benefit of our home is that it comes with a house cat named 'BR'. She is low maintenance but will ask for the occasional stroke and may pester you to throw her a ball every now and then. She spends most of her days outside watching the birds and is probably the cutest addition to your stay.

The perfect Fall experience in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

WOW! I had never been to Maine before. But my husband and I decided to take a trip to check it out while we were on the East Coast to see what Fall looked like. (Hi, we're Los Angelenos. We don't know weather.)

We chose to stay at Lisa & Alex's place because the first thing that struck me was their home design! I couldn't get over how open and airy everything looked. Can I just say, it's even more stunning in person. We chose wisely. Because not only did we enjoy their modern-but-comfortable home with, oh... just the KITCHEN OF MY DREAMS, we also enjoyed the piece and quiet that came with it. (Which made their fire place and super-comfortable memory foam bed at night all the more heavenly.) We also enjoyed their freaking steam shower, especially after a long stroll, crunching through the leave on their woodland property. Omg that was gorgeous.

Not to mention, Lisa and Alex are amazing and super-communicative hosts. Oh! And their cat is awesome too. I'm not even a cat person, and I enjoyed visits from "BR."

All this to say, if you're trying to chose the perfect place to stay in Maine... well, you just found it. I can't image any place better. I also can't imagine it'll stay available for long, so you should book this place ASAP!!

Lovely as can be!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for quiet place close to center and the sea and Lisa & Alex's places really stood out. Not only does it the meet the perfect location criteria, it's gorgeous! We loved all the natural light, stylish decor, and luxurious kitchen and baths. The house and surrounding property is huge so we felt like we had a private nature retreat and took lovely walks through the woods and down to the ocean. As for the cat, what a cutie! It was actually nice to have a low-key pet, made it feel more like home. Lisa and Alex they were lovely hosts--they made us feel so welcome, making sure we had everything we needed and more. We'll be back!"

Peaceful modern stay in coastal Maine

  • 5 of 5

This is such a gem of a place in a peaceful stunning location. We stayed in this house in Belfast last year in October when the trees were changing, and could watch the best fall colours from the porch while eating breakfast. The house has been recently renovated, is very modern, stylish and full of light. We especially loved the open kitchen / living area for cooking, eating and socialising at the same time. It's a short walk or drive to the charming harbour town of Belfast where you could stop for lunch, dinner or brewery in our case. There's also a delicious lobster place across the road. All in all we would thoroughly recommend to stay here.

luxurious, welcoming and great food!

  • 5 of 5

the welcome, food, property and owners were genuinely outstanding. Welcoming our family on the veranda as we drove up to the house - we were quite late - 1st thing was a glass of wine! perfect. the house is spotless, the kids loved the gardens and the woods. we loved the relaxed atmosphere and fire pit - that's great as the sun goes down. we will 100% return, it was like staying with family.

Belfast is a historic city with lots of independent amenities from the local co-op to a specialist cheese and wine shop and famous local vegetarian restaurant Chases Daily. Other great stores such as the all year round Christmas shop and the board game shop offer unique shopping opportunities, not to mention the numerous restaurants and places to stop for ice-cream.

Belfast is a fully functioning marina with a daily schooner tour in summer and a local lobster pound which pulls in lobster as you dine. Camden and Lincolnville are short car rides away and a day trip to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are highly recommended.

There is so much to see and do in the area that we have an extensive manual in the house which can help you plan your stay.
