About Beth Strickland

We are in our late fifties and enjoy coming to Highlands. We manage our vacation properties and try to keep them as we would like them to be when we are the guest. We grew up in Gainesville,Ga and Athens,Ga.

Beth Strickland purchased this house in 2004

Why Beth Strickland chose North Carolina Mountains

This cottage was built in the early nineties and it is not as old as some we looked at purchasing. We love the close proximity to town, just over a mile to Main St. The Creek just off the sunroom is very soothing to listen to while enjoying a good book or a meal. The cottage sits on just over an acre so you feel private but close lot town.

What makes this house unique

New HVAC system in July 2012. Open Kitchen to Living room and sunroom.WIFI. Very close to town, but private also! Close to Dusty's.

A perfect retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I , including our miniature goldendoodle, had a wonderful three week stay beginning in mid-May. We bought a home in Highlands and needed a place to stay during renovation. A perfect choice! After a long day of work it was so relaxing to come back to the cottage and sit on the back porch, listening to the sounds of nature and the creek. Beth has done a fabulous job of making her cottage feel like home as soon as you walk into the door. Comfortable furniture, great reading materials (so many books by authors my husband likes) and a very well equipped kitchen. The location was great for walking our dog, and us, with no steep hills. Very private and quiet A terrific getaway just minutes from town for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle lifestyle.

Perfect cottage surrounded by hills but close to town!

  • 5 of 5

If you want the best of both worlds in Highlands, this little cottage is perfect -- quiet and away from it all, but also close to the fun and activity of Highlands. With one bedroom upstairs and one downstairs, the home feels spacious and at the same time cozy. The back porch is nestled amid towering rhododendrum, and a beautiful creek weaves across the back yard. For our week's stay, I don't think we heard a car go by a single time. I loved the experience of just getting there -- putting my car in low gear and climbing up the winding Stoney Creek Road to the front door. This is a "don't miss" home away from home if you want a full Highlands experience.

Thank you Beth for great communication.your cottage was beautiful and hearing the flow of creek over rocks right out back was soothing and gorgeous...such a great location and easy access to Highlands..with all the rain we encountered I was relieved it wasn't a high and steep incline.i would definitely recommend and not hesitate to contact you again!thanks for allowing the poodles too!😊

Comfort and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our two Pugs had a wonderful 4 day stay to celebrate our 36th anniversary. We left behind the oppressive heat of mid-July in Metro Atlanta. 95+ stifling degrees at home gave way to low 80's with a breeze in a beautiful, shaded setting. Besides being a pleasure to deal with, Beth, the owner along with her husband, offers a nicely landscaped and well decorated Cottage (with all the amenities of home). Though there were only two of us, the home could easily accommodate 5 or 6 utilizing the sleeper sofas. There is plenty of space to sit and relax and even have some separation if desired. Wonderful back deck with grill and plenty of seating on rear deck overlooking a small creek. Mountain Laurel in full bloom was everywhere! Neighboring homes are all but invisible through the woods in Summer and distant enough to maintain privacy even in Winter. Bring your own food and drink and you'll need nothing else in the well equipped kitchen, bathrooms and laundry. In the evening the TVs have good reception and choices and the Wi-Fi worked well. The sunroom overlooking the creek has a good selection of books, magazines and games. Very convenient to Highlands for dining and shopping. Plenty of places to pickup prepared meals for a break from cooking (including two grocery stores). Waterfalls, mountain views and trails a short drive in every direction. Recommend the nice drive to Cashiers and especially a stop at the Farmer's Market (also has great BBQ) to load up on goodies for both your stay and for taking home. The home is a great base to go off and explore from, or for just staying put and relaxing. Simply put, we had a wonderful time and look forward to future visits to Highlands and specifically this rental. Our dogs loved it, too! Thanks, Beth!!
