House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bath (Sleeps 6-8)

Great elevation, great ocean view from lanai. Includes Internet service. I have two queen beds and a full bed. I have a sectional that is comfortable and can be rearranged as well as a queen size air mattress if needed. I have a cooler, beach chairs, and some boogie boards for the beach. The washer and dryer are available to guests. Matsuyama's market is a healthy .7 mile walk or drive. (HI Tax ID W13908552-01)

Cool, Clean and Comfortable Home

This house is in the hills, a little north of Kona. Just over 1,000 feet in elevation, it stays *much* cooler as compared to being right on the coast. You're only about 10-15 minutes away from town and it's far more comfortable than other places I've stayed on the island, there's also a small convenience store a 1/2 mile away so you don't have to drive into town for every necessity. Afternoons are often cloudy or rainy so if you're looking for lots of sun, you'll want to head down to the ocean after noon or 1:00pm. The house itself is clean and cozy with a deck that offers a panoramic view of the coastline, we spent mornings on the lanai drinking coffee and enjoying the view. Furnishings are comfortable, although not opulent - which was actually a plus in my book as we have young children. The owner of the home lives downstairs and is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The only disadvantage I would list is that the house sits along a steep, somewhat busy road. Since we left all the windows open for the cool breeze, we did hear a fair bit of traffic during the mornings and evenings as people leave for work and return in the evening. Overall we had a very pleasant and would happily stay here again if we ever need to rent a home in Kona.

Great Place and view

This place was fantastic for us and our 2 small children (beach toys and puzzles/boardgames in the house). Nice backyard and porch with beautiful view of sunsets. Billy was an excellent host, available should we need anything.

clean, adequate

Billy was very helpful and accommodating. We saw his son occasionally, but he kept to himself. The house is adequate and clean. The beds are clean and comfortable, except we bought mattress pads as we can't stand sleeping on a plastic mattress cover. We loved the view from the lanai of the ocean and the sunsets, and would have used the deck more but the road noise can be quite annoying. There is parking for one vehicle, and we managed to squeeze 2 in for part of our stay. The kitchen is fairly well equipped, and we did most of our meals at the house. We love the general location of the house - close to the airport, Costco and the nicer beaches north on the Island. We have stayed in this area before, but on a quieter street.

Owner's Response: You are correct about the noise. I have talked to some of the neighbors about installing speed bumps like they have a few blocks down but met with some resistance. You are also correct about the limited parking. Having lost my job in December you caught me in the middle of my relocation to the big island. I should have put my vehicles in storage.

Basic Lodging in Central Location for Exploring the Island

Great central location, easy access to Kona and Westside Beaches. We spent a week here during the holidays and did many day trips all over the island. Even the drive to Volcano was only 2 hours from here or Mauna Kea (the top) in an hour. The elevation of the place gives it a view of the water and relatively cool temperature compared to down at the beach. Kitchen has everything you need. I requested a coffee grinder and the owner set one out for us. It was great having separate bedrooms for the kids. Owner has clearly responded to previous reviewers with cooler, sand toys, updated furniture etc. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Great place to stay!

We stayed at this home for 5 nights. We felt it was great!! Close to downtown Kona and also convenient to visiting other locations on the island. The home had everything that we needed. We never worried about our safety in this location.

The 3 bedrooms were not large, but big enough to provide space for our group of two families. We all slept very well and had no complaints about the mattresses.

The main bathroom was well stocked with towels and washcloths. It had a full bathtub with shower. The second bathroom had a nicely tiled shower.

The kitchen, dining, living room were open concept and led right out to the lanai. The lanai was a very good size with wonderful views of the ocean.

It's on a pretty steep hill close to the road. So be aware of that if you have small children. Because of proximity to the road, there was significant traffic noise at times. But in no way did that effect the quality of our trip to Hawaii.

Down in the carport area there was a ping pong table that my children enjoyed playing. We used the washer/dryer and they worked very well.

We were able to meet the homeowner and her son and they were very nice and helpful. (Thank you for the coconut oil!)

In the end I would say you get quite a bit for the price you pay. The home is not super fancy. But if you want very fancy, you're going to have to pay quite a bit more for that in Hawaii. We loved our stay and would definitely come back to this home again.
