My love for the Cape began at 5 years old when my parents took us camping in a small tent in Nickerson State Park. Progressing from camping to renting to owning property in Orleans, vacationing on the Cape became our annual family ritual… never to be missed! I am excited to have just spent my 50th consecutive summer on the Cape and grow more in love with it with each year! My husband and 3 grown children have caught the Cape fever as well! They never miss an opportunity to cross the canal for a “Cape Escape”. Whether it is boating, biking, lobster fishing, surfing, or reading a book on the beach….. they find endless possibilities for relaxation. The past few years, I have spent the entire summer helping to manage my parents’ rental property in Orleans. I know how precious a long awaited family vacation is. I take pride in striving to treat all our renters as invited guests to meet or exceed their expectations as they arrive to a clean, comfortable, inviting home. As the saying goes… “If you once get the sand of the Cape in your shoes.. you will always return.”
Monica and Andy Cattano purchased this chalet in 2012
It was love at first sight!.... My husband and I were excited to have purchased our own Cape property in August, 2012 as a “diamond in the rough”. Looking beyond the overgrown trees and a long list of needed renovations and improvements, we set out to develop our own punch list to transform this unique house and property into our dream vacation home. In renovating and decorating this house, we carefully planned our improvements with the goal of maintaining the original style and broad appeal of the iconic A-Frame vacation style home popularized in the 60’s. The distinctive A-Frame style surged in popularity in the post WW II era as a modern, stylish, architectural and cultural phenomenon that symbolized relaxation and enjoyment of the “Good Life”. We welcome you as our guests!
Close proximity to everything - - yet incredibly secluded and quiet. Uncle Harveys Pond is literally steps from your front door. The dead end location provides for no traffic except for an occasional visitor to view the pond from the street. Across the street is a 7 acre tract of wooded land dedicated to the Orleans Conservation Trust. It is truly a very special place.
All I can say is WOW. This place is truly a gem. My hubby and I stayed here for 5 nights, and I really don't have 1 negative thing to say. We met the owner at the house -- she was incredibly kind and welcoming -- gave us a quick tour and then left us to get settled in. The accomodations were lovely. The descriptions and pictures were very accurate, and the property was clean and well-maintained. We went to Meetinghouse Pond to go fishing 2 days and spent most of our time @ Nauset Beach. For dinner, we went to Joe's Pub one night and Orleans Public House another -- both terrific. I have been hesitant to write a review, b/c I want to be sure it's available the next time I go! All in all -- spectacular 1st HomeAway experience, and we will certainly return to this Orleans Chalet.
To say we got lucky to find the A-Frame house on Uncle Harvey’s Pond is a major understatement. The pictures online are nice but they don’t do the house justice. The home, recently and lovingly restored, is immaculate. There is a retro-quaintness to the design, but no compromise in functionality. The layout and flow of the house helped bring the family together for a classic Cape Cod vacation. The kitchen is a great size and the appliances are new. Having two bathrooms and a washer /dryer were key. The outside of the house has a great program and the enclosed shower with hot water was a big hit. We put the fire pit and brand new multi-burner gas grill to good use. Sliding glass doors open to the deck, which sits 30 feet from the pond. We ordered a canoe and kayak from Goose Hummock and they were here when we arrived. We used them both frequently including a great trip out of Meetinghouse Pond right down the road. It’s very obvious the owners take great pride in their home and go out of their way to make the rental a great experience. We'll be back for sure. - Chris B
Clean, newly renovated and beautifully furnished. Outside grill, fireplace and shower a plus. No damp (heard that this can be an issue in wooden houses on the cape). Renters provided many items we would have to bring ourselves in Europe (toilet paper, washing-up and laundry soap, napkins etc). WIFI had good speed and connected up with no issues. Monika was very welcoming and we felt we could have called her if there were any issues, but there weren't.
No traffic. Wooded nature reserve left and lake in front are idyllic - could spend all day on the deck! We counted 45 bird species including humming birds and nesting woodpeckers. Also frogs, turtles, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks and a deer. We hired a canoe for a week from Goose Hummock, which they delivered and canoed on the lake and down the river from Meeting House Pond. The lake is somewhat green and deep for swimming - Meeting House Pond, which is walking distance is nicer. Also beaches at Nauset, Skaket and Crystal Lake all nearby.
We'll be back next year! Dream getaway in perfect secluded location on lake. My family of 5 stayed here in June and could not have been happier. My children kayaked on the lake after spending the days at nearby Nauset Beach and Skaket Beach. Each night we relaxed by the outdoor firepit and gazed at the stars reflecting off the lake. Perfect!!!! Owners are the friendliest couple you could imagine. Their personal touches were icing on the cake. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
