This is the very best of West Coast Canada!
This romantic cottage has it all. So private, yet close to all the excitement of Ganges Harbour. The famous Saltspring Weekend Market is a 2 minute stroll away along the water's edge. Wonderful art galleries, restaurants, shops, pubs, studios are all within a wander from your private sanctuary in the trees.
There is much to do here for all ages. On the property, there is plenty of exploring to do, and the 300 feet of private beach front to enjoy.
A vast variety of birds and other wildlife make this 4 acre property home. Watch the swans, eagles, hummingbirds, quail and other exotic birds from the beach and expansive veranda. Raccoons, otters, deer and other critters are curious, safe and plentiful.
Off the property, hiking, kayaking, sailing, golfing, fine dining, casual dining, patio drinking, swimming, shopping, scuba diving, a day at the spa, fishing, yoga, farmers markets, etc... are all close at hand.
I guarantee you will love your stay here as much as we do!

The location is wonderful - right next to Ganges harbour and all the restaurants and shops, but the unit itself needs some TLC, and the service - honestly - was poor. The owner took a sizeable deposit, to be refunded within 10 days after check-out, but it took an additional couple of weeks to get that back - despite enquiries by us and the VRBO team. Like other reviewers who've mentioned this problem here, we did eventually receive our money, but it was very frustrating.
Even without the refund worries, I would only give this place 2-3 stars. It wasn't exactly spotless when we checked in. We never did meet with the owner or anyone else for that matter, which wasn't a big problem, but it also didn't leave us feeling all that warm and fuzzy.
Our main concern was that the place is just not comfortable. Advertised as a queen sized bed, the bed is actually only a double, with a saggy mattress at that. The two 'sofas' in the living room are pretty much impossible to sit on - I think they may be homemade. There's a guest book in the unit that has comments about the furnishings (admittedly many people also talked about loving their stay there) - and some of these complaints go back to 2011!
Despite its great location, I don't think we would stay there again.
My wife and I stayed at this little cottage in April. I would absolutely recommend this place, and we will definitely be back. The location was pretty much right in town of Ganges, and we were able to explore the town on foot with ease. It had everything we needed for a short stay. We found the bed very comfortable and slept like babies. There are french doors in the bedroom that open up to a forested setting. We would definitely like to come back in the summer months and take advantage of those doors. I can imagine on a warm morning it would be quite beautiful and peaceful.
I would of given it 5 stars if not for a few minor things.
We found it needed a good dusting upon our arrival, as it may of been some time before caretaker had tidied up the place. Michael was very apologetic and waived the maintenance fee which we appreciated.
Like some of the other reviews, the sofas, although modern, were not the comfiest things to lounge on. Being that the place was so cozy, you definitely wanted to hang out and lounge a little.
Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay!
One thing to note about the security deposit, we didn't hear from Michael right away after our stay and it took some time for him to get back to us. But it all worked out. So don't panic if you find yourself in the same boat, it can take up to a week to process it..
My husband and I had been on the island before, but never stayed on the island, so this was a new experience for us. This adorable little cottage was exactly what we were looking for. It's located right beside the village and within walking distance to everything, which was great. It was gloomy and rainy most of the time we were there, so it was nice that the cottage was able stay nice and warm! The most lovely part of this cottage is the property it's located on. Pictures can't do it justice, it's stunning! And with a short walk through the beautiful forestry to the pebble beach, it makes for a nice private and secluded feel.
The only and ever so slight negative is, like with the rest of the reviews, the couch in the living room is low and uncomfortable. But don't let that dissuade you from staying here. The rest is marvelous!
Thank you so much!
It was me and my sister's first time in Salt Spring and the location of the cottage in relation to the town and Saturday Market couldn't have been more perfect. The place was clean, cozy and had everything we needed for cooking a nice Thanksgiving Dinner.
Three of us stayed here as friends/family. It was a beautiful location and the place was tidy and well-equipped. In the woods but right on the edge of town.
I had to ask for my deposit back, but believe it was a simple mistake, as it was returned immediately once I asked.
I would rate this property higher but for the furnishings. It's a very cute cottage with nice updates that would be cozy if furnished differently. The sofa and chair are not only VERY low to the floor, but also have no cushioning and the flat pillows provided don't help, very uncomfortable. There also is not any side tables. The high top dining table is difficult to get in and out from, not awful but not comfortable. The bed is hard and doesn't make for a good nights sleep. We're active and don't have physical limitations, so these comments are not based on that. The kitchen has what you need to cook your own meals and there is also a small BBQ. The location is right in town, so you can walk everywhere. I was worried that the traffic would be noisy, but it was fine. The private beach is not the kind you hang out on, but would be great if you brought your kayaks. I very much appreciate that we were able to bring our small dog. Tara, the caretaker was also very nice and helpful.
Wineries, organic farms, yoga retreat and drop ins close by, many artist studios, farmers market and fair, book stores, video rentals, antique stores, clothing stores, restaurants and delivery, pubs, heritage museums, music venues, theater, old fashioned movie house (current movies though).
When you are on this very private property you would never know that this is all at your doorstep.
