About Owner/Property Manager

This property has been owned by our family as a retreat for 25 years. Originally Chicagoans, we now live on both coasts. The second generation of our family now owns the ranch and is offering it as a vacation rental. The caretakers have lived on the property for 16 years and are available for guide services in the area, as well as any other needs.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 1990

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Montana

The Bold Fisherman Ranch was originally bought as a fly fishing retreat, but it quickly became a family gathering place given the beauty and serenity of the property. When you can pull yourself away, the ranch is in close proximity to the area's wonders, including the Gallatin River, the Spanish Peaks, Big Sky, Bridger and Yellowstone National Park. Twenty minutes from Bozeman, it offers a perfect combination of easy access to shopping and amenities with privacy and the feeling of a rural retreat. The trout pond and river access make it a rare property for both fly fishing afficianados and lovers of Montana beauty.

What makes this house unique

Traveling down the drive from Gallatin Highway, one enters the ranch and quiet and beauty descend. The views from the house include the fishing pond, an 85+ year old barn, expansive meadows bordered by the Gallatin River, and the Spanish Peaks in the background. Wildlife abounds, and the sky changes constantly: as beautiful on clear days as when clouds roll across the sky. We frequently see deer, fox, bald eagles, herons, ducks, sandhill cranes and more from the house. We never tire of the views and the sound of the river flowing through the bottom of the meadow, whether gathering by the stone fireplace in winter, or hanging out on the expansive deck in summer.

Great Montana Location for a Guys Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We rented the property for a bachelor party weekend. The property manager was incredibly helpful and informative as none of us had been to Bozeman prior. He gave great advice on the local area and the accommodations exceeded our expectations from his description. The house was idyllic, set apart from the main road with a nice deck overlooking the pond and neighboring forest. The house had sufficient space for our 10 guests, ample kitchen supplies, and tasteful Western decor. It was an excellent home base for us to relax and celebrate our friend and groom-to-be. But truthfully, we didn't spend much time inside as the real enjoyment came from fishing the pond and Gallatin River directly accessed from the property. Most of our activities offsite (hiking in Gallatin National Forest, visiting downtown Bozeman, tubing the Madison) were an easy 20 minute drive from the house and provided the type of low-key outdoor enjoyment we were looking for. I definitely would recommend this property to friends and family looking for a Montana retreat that has on-site fishing/outdoor relaxation along with easy access to the city of Bozeman and the outdoor recreation opportunities of Montana.

Great choice

  • 4 of 5

Brought my family together to visit my son in Boseman, plenty of room for 8 adults and 2 children. Great location. Amazing view.

House was thoroughly equipped and clean with many extra fishing amenities.

Loved the walk to the river and yes there are fish there!

Eric always got back to me with any questions and was very hospitable.

There were 3 couples in our party - we came down from Canada for a family wedding in Bozeman. What a lovely spot! Tucked away from the main road behind trees, over a little wooden bridge.... It's a very quiet and private setting despite owner's house being next door; we saw Eric upon our arrival to show us the house, but didn't see anyone the rest of our stay - we felt like we were the only ones there :-). The house has a great floor plan with 1 bedroom up and 3 down (2 plus den). It was clean and well appointed. There's neat character to the decor in the house, nice porch area with swing chairs, lots of room in each bedroom, and great common space. Everyone in our group agrees it was a very relaxing place to be!

Bold Fisherman Ranch

  • 5 of 5

The Bold Fisherman Ranch was fantastic for a family reunion with a group of older fisherman. Our experience could not have been better. The weather started stormy but ended in heavenly fashion. Sunrise and sunsets were unbelievable.Since most of us were rusty on fly fishing skill, the adjacent pond was a dream. Access to the Gallatin River is a super bonus that proved to be great fishing for rainbows. The bedroom and kitchen amenities were just like home and the owners were close so any need could be met.

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home. We decided to stay here specifically because of the fishing access but there were many other reasons this home is special. The view is fantastic with lots of wild life in the early morning and early evening. Although the home sleeps 10, we were originally going to come on our own, but wound up inviting a few friends who stayed with us part of the time. The home was originally owned by a fly fisherman and he has accumulated a lot of fly fishing gear, all of which is there for you to use including rods, waders, fishing vests. We brought our own gear but did wind up using a fishing net when my husband lost his down the river. My husband and a friend caught a number of trout on the pond and several fish in the small, private stretch of river. The pond is not stocked so all of the fish in it are wild trout (catch and release by fly rod only). The access to the river is limited and a little difficult to get to if you are not wading. The river was low when we arrived and dropped substantially while we were there so fishing on the river was not at its best.

The house is just off the Gallatin Highway, but once you are there, you would have no idea there was a road nearby. It is very private and quiet. The house has lots of pots and pans and many unusual items such as a Cuisinart. It is well stocked with the basics such as spices, flour etc. It also has aluminum foil, handiwrap, sandwich bags, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry soap. Also, condiments and other items left by guests can be found in the refrigerator and cupboards so it's a good idea to check in and see what's there before you go grocery shopping. The only thing not supplied is bar soap (however there is liquid soap).

The location of the home is only 1 mile (almost exactly) from Gallatin Gateway and 5 miles from 4 corners. It's an easy drive to fish the Gallatin Canyon which is only about a 30 minute drive away. It's a about 40 minutes to Ennis Lake and fishing on the Madison. Although we didn't fish it, the Yellowstone River is about one hour away. So it's a great location for fishing.

It also is very close to a golf course, a gym with temporary memberships (The Ridge), an excellent grocery store (Rosauers) and downtown Bozeman. On the 4th of July we went to the concert and fireworks at the fairgrounds. Fantastic. Bozeman is a wonderful town, and the people are VERY friendly. We have already booked for next year.

Family fun and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely week at this property with our young son and my in-laws. This was a perfect location for this crew - lots to do and explore but also options to sit and relax. We spent a lot of time exploring the Bozeman area with great recommendations from the owners. From floating on the Madison to hiking in the Gallatin/Hyalite canyons to eating at the great restaurants in town, we had a wonderful time in Bozeman. The house has everything you could possibly need and a lot of space for our group. I highly recommend this property and hope to get back to it soon!
