Maui Sands unit 5B is a ground floor DIRECT OCEAN FRONT unit only 10 feet from the ocean. It's a large 2 bedroom, 1 bath unit with a queen bed, two twin size beds in the 2nd bedroom and a sofa bed in the front room. The kitchen and back yard lanai were remodeled just this past January 2012 and the bushes that were partially blocking your view of the ocean are GONE! Watch whales and turtles from IN YOU UNIT! Also, you'll have an assigned FREE parking spot which is very close to the unit. The direct ocean front units have a small grass areas in back between your lanai and the ocean and large grass areas in front of the unit. You'll have a 180 degree view of the ocean.

Best property feature...
Walking on the beach from our property down to Kaanapali.
Maui Sands Resort is actually the very last unit that you can walk on the beach for miles all the way down to Black Rock in Kaanapali. “Walk on the beach” being the key words! Other properties might boast they have a private beach or a little cove or something but you won’t be able to take a long sunset or morning strolls more than 100 yards in either direction on the beach. It would just be too dangerous to walk on the lava rocks and cliffs from one cove to the next.
Kaanapali Beach was voted nicest beach in the US and Black Rock is one of the top three “must snorkel” places to on Maui! I personally have seen eagle rays, turtles, Hawaiian monk seals and dolphins right in front of our property. Other properties north of Maui Sands you have to actually walk on the road onto our property then walk on the beach to Kaanapali. Were talking about a 2–3 mile stretch of beach and your at one end.
Maui Sands Property Highlights:

Our Beach: It moves!
Since were at the very end of a 3 mile long stretch of beach, our shoreline changes drastically depending on currents and storm systems far away. If you're staying right in the middle of middle of the 3 mile stretch of sandy beach, you're probably NOT going to notice the movement and you'll have a sandy beach all year around. But at the very end of any beach, you’ll notice the changes. By the way, right in the middle of Kaanapali Beach is Kaanapali Resort, which is a very expensive area of the island and that’s where you’ll find the Hyatt, Sheraton and Westin Resorts.
Typically during the summer months the ocean currents move the sand north towards our property and our beach grows. This is due to the increased tropical activity south of the islands. During the winter months the Alaskan storm systems push the current and the sand south towards Kaanapali and our beach comes and goes. But, a sandy beach to plant your towel down on is never more than say the property next door. Don’t’ bother asking if it’s sandy when you plan on coming because it can change drastically just overnight! It all depends on the currents and storm systems around the islands and sometimes we get effects from storm systems or hurricanes as far away as Australia and Fiji!
The owner purchased this unit 20 years ago. He comes for three months of the year...Jan thru March. Lives in California and spends his summers in Montana.
Loves that its a small property with an old Hawaii feel to it.
Loves being directly on the ocean and so close to Kaanapali and Lahaina.
My husband and I and two teens really enjoyed staying here apart from a few bumps.
First off, this is where to stay to be right on the ocean. The swimming/snorkeling is quite good between the two reefs but don't expect there to be a beach. We were unable to walk on the beach around the property to the left to get to Kaanapali, so we never actually got there.
The pool is great for kids and the grounds are well kept and attractive.
The condo itself is just as the pictures look, no worries there.
The queen bed in the master is quite comfortable.
One day while we were there we were unable to use our lanai most of the day due to construction on the condo patio above. Not the rental manager's fault, but it would have been nice to get a heads up.
Only a couple of quibbles with the condo itself. There were the bathroom ants. They are tiny, but relentless. Eventually we just ignored them. The fan in the twin room was not working.
I would stay here again and recommend it to others.
As stated, this condo is directly in front of ocean. The back of the condo is an entire window that allows for the 180 deg view. The ocean splashes up into the grass, it's that close. With it being Winter, the tide is up pretty far so there is not a beach in front, but you can see the reef through the water.
Upon arriving we were greeted by two whales and a gorgeous sunset. The same as our last night.
We spent all week driving a few miles to nearby Ka'anapali and Lahaina. If the weather was rainy on our side of the island, we went South to Wailea or Kihei.
The unit is a little dated, but not so much that you wouldn't want to stay here. Like the walls are a little crusty and things are poorly painted. The bathroom probably needs to be updated next. However, if it were fancy, it wouldn't be for such a great rate and who really cares, you're in Maui!
We found the beds to be comfortable and the towels and linens a plenty. The kitchen is very well stocked. Only recommendation would be is to have the knives sharpened :)
We really LOVED our time here and would recommend it to anyone.
If you come to Maui, I recommend purchasing the book/app called Maui revealed. It tells you every great place to eat, swim, snorkel, etc.
It recommended we eat at the Deli and the Taco joint across the street, they were great and inexpensive. I actually preferred the Deli vs going to Roy's!
The A/C still appears to be on a timer. It wasn't an issue since we had the windows open and the trade winds blowing. Also, we were gone almost all day. If it were summer time, I could understand how hot it would be in the bedrooms.
I would LOVE to plan another trip here. Thank you for sharing your wonderful place with us.
The location of this condo cannot be beat. Everything you need is just steps away. We found the area to be charming. 5B is literally on the ocean and the snorkeling was fantastic! Reefs, fish and turtles outside your back door. The unit is older and needs some updating ( the towels were very old) but we had everything we really needed.
When we arrived it was really hot and the trade winds were nonexistent so the unit was unbearable. I was glad I rented a unit with AC but there was a catch. The wall unit is on a timer and will only run one hour before needing to be reset. We all had to sleep in the living area( on couches and the floor) and take turns getting up to reset the timer. The wall unit is not big enough to cool all the rooms and the main room remains hot. It was not a pleasant way to spend our first night after a 10 hour flight. You cannot leave the unit on to keep the condo comfortable so be aware of this if your like your living area cool. A few days the winds were enough to cool the unit but when the sun hits the back of the unit it becomes extremely hot. The pool and common areas are beautiful and the laundry room is just steps away. The light outside the door was out and even though we called it was never replaced making it difficult to see coming home at night. Maui was beautiful and we had a very nice time.
Awesome place, we really enjoyed the snorkeling right out back. It was ideal for a kid learning how to swim/snorkel. The condo was spacious and clean, and the staff was easy to contact if needed.
