Lift your head off your pillow in the master bedroom to watch the sun rise over Lake Huron, then snooze a bit more or head down to the beach for an early morning beach walk or kayak on a flat surfaced Lake Huron. Kids can either sleep close in bunk beds in the master bedroom or in bunk beds in a separate bedroom (2 bunks sleep 4). A back room has another full size bed for a happy couple such that the cottage can handle 4 adults and at least as many kids. A full kitchen and laundry area complement the home. As the day advances and the breeze picks up, sail in a sunfish or windsurf from the beach or head a few miles south to Oscoda for a float trip in canoes, kayaks, or tubes along the AuSable River. Or take a bike ride around Cedar Lake or just lie on the beach and enjoy the sun. As the day comes to an end, mix up some margaritas and grill up a feast (or order pizza) and watch the amazing sunset colors develop over Lake Huron. As the sun sets, start a fire on the upper beach, make s'mores, sing some songs, or tell ghost stories while watching shooting stars and satellites overhead.
Also a great escape in the winter to a cozy cottage with a fireplace, a table for jigsaw puzzling, or a nice couch for reading (or snoozing) - both with great views of Lake Huron! Adventure outside for walks along the frozen beach with ice flows extending varying distances into the lake. Nearby you can also find several groomed X-country ski trails. Return to the cottage to warm up by a fire with hot chocolate or some soup and then enjoy games with the family or movies on the big screen with a LCD projector.
Turn off your connections to the outside world - there is no cable TV or internet service at the cottage and cell phone service varies with carrier (all can be found a few miles away in Oscoda) - you've come to the cottage to relax and reconnect with family and loved ones - not be connected to the world!
My wife and I are veterinarians that work at Michigan State University and have busy careers and lives trying to keep up with our jobs and our two children. Our kids were 10 and 7 when we bought the cottage and despite soccer, cross-country, and other school events, we are always game for a drive 'up north' for a night, weekend, or hopefully a longer respite.
Hal Schott purchased this cottage in 2008
We fell in love with this area of Lake Huron when we visited friends in the area. We purchased the cottage with the goal of 'slowing down' intermittently and having quality family time. Days on the lake, whether summer or winter, start with a family breakfast followed by a beach walk with our dogs. The days continue largely unplanned but typically end with a family dinner and campfire or movies on the big screen. Whether we are there for a day, a weekend, or a couple of weeks, we have never once been ready to leave when we had to return to reality. We are convinced that this has been the single most important investment in quality family life and we hope that you may also experience the relaxation and reconnection that we experience every time we visit the lake!
Relax, revive, and reconnect with loved ones and family. There is no daily schedule to keep and plenty of opportunity to slow down and enjoy the passing of time (the meaning of life according to James Taylor).
My Family and I had a wonderful time during our stay at the cottage. It is very comfortably furnished, lots of places to sleep from couches to the large master bedroom. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay, dishes, babecue, extra refrigerator, floats for the lake, kayaks, and most importantly a nice fire ring for night time fires.
Lots to do in the area if you enjoy outdoor activities, drive down river road with its many hiking trails and scenic over looks, check out the local marinas, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, star watching, watching the sunrise and moon rise out of Lake Huron, awesome stuff!
We created some new memories since my son proposed to his girl friend during a walk on the beach.
I would deifnately recommend this cottage get away and I plan to return soon!
We had 2 beautiful weeks with the grand kids. We thank you for the use of all the water inner tubes and kayaks. We enjoyed the dvd movies ( had one every nite with popcorn ). Thank you for the raspberries - great with cereal or just plain . Your cabin was very well equipped and we enjoyed our stay. We hope to come back again soon. Thank you !!
Quite honestly it was not up to our expectations. The location was wonderful and the beach was great as was the water for the little ones. Lots of water toys. The problem was chipmunks in the ceiling at night which should be addressed .
We had several family members come and go throughout our stay and found everything we could want to keep ourselves entertained and comfortable. We had 7-11 people, ages 3-83. The pictures don't really do the property justice. We would come back gladly and hope to someday.
We had a great time! The cottage was cozy and well-equipped. The best thing about it is that Lake Huron is right outside! We enjoyed the sand and sun during the day and the fire ring in the evening. Even some rain didn't dampen our day - there were many movies and games inside to keep us busy. It all made for a very relaxing trip.
Arriving with three young grandchildren and three small dogs we found the cottage extremely comfortable with all the amenities of home! The gorgeous view of Lake Huron was excitedly welcomed by all with hours of walking on the sandy beaches. The sunset is so beautiful it drew a tear to our eyes. Hal, the property owner, is very easy and accommodating to work with. I can't wait to go back and have a great summer experience !!
