Great for Autumn on the North Fork
Great home in central location. Accommodated 2 families easily. Walking distance to shops in the Heights and Sunset Beach. Home is lovely, clean, comfortable and inviting. Owner and house manager a joy to work with. Highly recommend this home and would come again in a heartbeat!
My family stayed at this property for a long weekend. Even though the house is from 1790, it's totally modern in its amenities, super comfortable and 100% unique. It's the ideal location for a family getaway - we are looking forward to staying here again next year. The host family is easy to work with and is very responsive. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!
Our group of 6 adults stayed here the week of July 4th and this was the perfect house. Great combination of a historic house with modern amenities. Spacious kitchen opens up to family/tv room with vaulted ceiling. Great central location that is a short walk/bike ride/drive to the Heights or Sunset Beach/Crescent Beach. We took advantage of the owner's bikes or you can also get a weekly parking pass for the town beaches for only $35. Also close to the grocery store or anything else you may need (especially the Tuck Shop ice cream store just a few houses away). Outdoor space is great with lots of outdoor seating/eating areas and plenty of room for games or lounging on the hammock. Owner was very easy to deal with. I highly recommend this house!
We spent a wonderful 4 day weekend here for my sister's low-key bachelorette weekend. Upon our arrival, we were thrilled to see a large kitchen flowing into a family room that was spacious and perfect for large groups. The house is clean and well-maintained with a historic feel to it. We found the accommodations to be perfect, which is saying a lot since there were 10 of us. There are 4 bedrooms upstairs (sleeps 6) and a private living room with fold-out downstairs. There is another fold-out in the family room as well as air mattresses (which we didn't need to use). The property itself is large with plenty of outdoor seating where we enjoyed a candlelit dinner one evening.
During our stay, we walked to sunset beach and took advantage of 2 of the owner's bikes. The island is very easy for walking, biking or driving around. We enjoyed the farmers market, fish market, and two restaurants, as well as the ice cream shop literally two houses down the street.
The weekend could not have been better and I credit much of that to finding the perfect place to stay!
My family stayed here for 3 nights and it was an excellent fit for 7 adults and 2 toddlers. The family room opening up to the kitchen makes for a great gathering place. The entire property is well kept, including the patio space and lawn, which were well enjoyed by my family. The location is extremely convenient, with an ice cream shop, bank, deli around the corner; the beach just a 10 minute walk; and a par 3 course just up the road. The owner is responsive and does his best to make sure you're taken care of. You cannot beat this vacation home and Shelter Island if you are getting your family together for a relaxing getaway - highly, highly recommended!
I would highly recommend this home. It is in a convenient location, close to the ferry and the heights downtown area. We were in town for a wedding and the house was comfortable for the 9 of us easily. It was well stocked, clean and well maintained. The owner had us enjoy his weekly CSA pickup at the Sylvester Manor and left a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. There were bicycles, games, books and activities you can help yourself as well. Lots of outdoor and indoor spaces to spread out. I would rent here again without hesitation.
