Very cute getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We wanted to take a few days and get away and found this rental. Doreen was great in answering all our questions and making the booking easy. The cottage was very cute right on the water and allowed us to bring our dogs to make it a true family vacation. The cottage was nicely updated and had most everything you would need. There were a few

small things that would've given it five stars and once it was addressed it was assured it would be taken care of. The cleaning could've been better. It was overall very clean but upon arrival I could smell mildew in one room to find a dirty mop in the closet permeating the room and dead bugs right next to our pillows in the window sill that could've easily been wiped when changing the sheets. I was surprised it wasn't noticed, which made me wonder how clean really everything was since those things were so obvious. A few replacement kitchen items would have been nice too. The master bed was a bit thin and not very comfortable and the room desperately needed darkening curtains or something because every morning on vacation we were up with the sun at 5:00 a.m. I would definitely go back but bring a few things to accommodate our stay. Those few things listed aren't terrible, it just would have made it a five star if taken care of.

Owner's Response: I had a feeling that this guest was going to mention something because even before they stepped foot in the cottage, she called me and said that the address wasn't showing up on her GPS and wanted to know why and was kind of demanding so she right away was set off for no reason and made me feel as if I was renting her a home that wasnt there when I've been renting this popular rental for years now. I responded to each and every email text and phone calls which this guest had from the beginning during and even way after her check out and there was LOTS but all good and no worries as I immediately respond. I even broke up a whole week to rent for less than a whole week and admitting TWO dogs and worked with them on price and they were supposed to crate the dogs but home and brand new couch was filled with pet hairs. We've replaced the mop but what happened was that the mop had not dried correctly as mop part fell back into the bucket when was placed back in closet so it smelled musty. It was not working correctly and this was the first time in five years a complaint but was an easy fix by placing outside. The closet has no door, just a curtain so yes, the mop smelled musty because it did not dry correctly so I just mentioned why not place the mop and bucket outside....this cottage only has ONE closet in whole house. We have since replaced the broken mop.The bugs are those microscopic knats that come in through screens, also guests need to turn outside lights off at nighttime as this attracts ALL bugs and spiders as bugs are attracted to light, then when the bugs come to the light, then the spiders will come, vicious cycle but can be alleviated by keeping lights off This cottage gets sunrises so unless you are not an early riser, maybe consider a sunset home. I will bring up room darkening to the owners but why would you want to sleep your vacation away..... Strangely though she kept mentioning how clean the place was but mentioned two things that took a whole minute to fix so was it clean or not???? All my 99% of other guests from the last 5 years who rented this home leave raving reviews but I know I can't make everyone happy all the time and we are all humans and humans do make mistakes who forget minor details which if this is all that was the matter, all good for me. I wonder why when she first got in the cottage, she text me how clean the place was....hmmmm...oh well, life is too short to dwell on the past and negativity as I'm all about positive:-)

Comfortable stay in this cute cottage

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time staying in this cottage. Communication with the owner was very easy and she was super quick to respond to questions. The cottage is very well equipped and cozy. We loved the well supplied kitchen. Mullet Lake sunrises are beautiful and we had a couple of nights with clear enough skies to star gaze. The hot tub was a great bonus - we really enjoyed it during our stay. So close and convenient to many neat attractions: Jordan River Valley hiking, Ocqueoc Falls, Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Charlevoix, North Central State Trail. Enjoyed bringing our bikes to use on the trail and biking Mackinac Island. Fall colors were spectacular! Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Owner's Response: This cottage is truly in a remarkable area, so close to so many different type of day trips, you have to come back to do the rest of the activities which you didn't have time for If you plan on going to Mackinac Island, bring your bikes and take them on the ferry and you won't have to rent any bikes thereby saving$$$$! Everyone must check out Ocqueoc Falls, the largest waterfall in lower northern Michigan-you will be amazed with these waterfalls, very secluded too-great place to get engaged.....hint hint!!!!

Topinabee/Indian River area is the heart of the finest outdoor recreational opportunities that Northern michigan has to offer such as lakes and rivers for boating and fishing, forests for hunting wildlife and mushroom hunting, bird watching and recreational trails for snowmobiling, biking, hiking, cross country skiing and ORV riding converge on Indian River. You can come to Topinabee and Indian River and go fast-water kayaking, ORV riding and sea kayaking all in the same summer weekend. If you'd rather do something more passive, substitute reading a book by the lakeshore or riverfront having lunch while watching boats pass by on the waterway and sitting by a campfire in the evening! Indian River is located between Burt and Mullett Lakes, two of Michigan's largest inland lakes and are part of the Inland Water Route, a 38 mile chain of lakes and rivers that begins in Conway and empties into Lake Huron at Cheboygan. The lakes and connecting rivers are enjoyed by boaters, kayakers, sailboaters and a wide variety of powerboats! Indian River is a prime fishing destination for both professionals and amateur fishermen but the professionals don't enjoy their catch any more than the five-year-old who catches his or her first fish while fishing with grandpa! Indian River is also at the middle of the North Central State Recreational Trail, a 62 mile trail from Gaylord to Machinaw City. The Indian River Golf Club has a beautiful 18 hole course and wthin an hour's drive there are dozens of other 9 and 18 hole courses. The Cross in the Woods is the Worlds largest crucifix. It is one of Michigan's top tourist destinations and draws hundreds of thousands of people to Indian River each year.Indian River is at the northern edge of the Pigeon River Country State Forest, home of the nationals largest wild elk herd east of the Mississippi. The state forest also has miles and miles of forestland for hunting, fishing, mushroom & berry picking, camping and hiking.
