What makes this apartment unique

East Capitol Street is one of DC's most historic avenues; it literally is the north-south dividing line and runs directly into the US Capitol. Houses on East Capitol rarely come on the market; we waited 17 years for this one!

Quiet, comfortable, ideal location

We have just returned from our fifth or sixth stay at Shane and Barrett's place, which by now feels like our DC home away from home. Our daughter and her family live a few blocks in one direction and the Capitol and those fabulous museums on the Mall begin just 6 blocks the other way. It's the perfect location for us--- and anyone who wants be within walking distance of the very heart of DC.. Shane and Barrett are most welcoming, the apartment is clean, attractive, very comfortable, with handsome trees in the front yard.

Excellent location and great facilities

Fantastic location close to the Capitol. Selection of local shops close by with a great range of restaurants and shops within easy walk. The apartment was clean and well-maintained and Barrett was a great host. We will have no hesitation at recommending this property to our friends.

Perfect little apartment space

This apartment was perfect for my husband and me on our recent four night getaway to be tourists in D.C. Barrett was quick to respond to our booking request, and we met Shane as we were leaving to go to dinner one night. They were very welcoming and gave us phone numbers to contact them with any need during our stay.

Pros:

--Fairly spacious living room and kitchen area

--Very clean space (and I'm a bit of a germaphobe!)

--Location made walking to the Capitol and National Mall incredibly easy, also could walk to several corner markets, coffee shops, and restaurants near by. (If we had stayed any longer, I think my husband would have been on a first name basis with the people at Port City Java!)

--Fast WiFi

--Really comfortable duvet/comforter and pillows

--Charming features: fun decor throughout made it really feel like a home, front yard/terrace also gave a very welcoming vibe

The only minor negative: You will be able to hear people and pets as they move around upstairs.

Overall, it was a great place to stay, and we would definitely recommend it or stay there again if we ever do another trip to D.C.

Home away from home

Property met my expectations from the description and pictures. Was tidy and clean on my arrival and instructions provided were clear on how to get to property etc. Was good to be able to have a kitchen and washing machine after having a week at a hotel in New York - it was good to just relax at the end of each busy day, and be able to make coffee and breakfast in the morning. It is quiet being a basement apartment and the bed was very comfortable. Metro stop 10-15 mins walk away and reusable Metro cards were provided - which saves you from buying your own. Bus stop right outside and walking distance to Capitol and the DC Circulator if you want to use that to get around National Mall. Eastern Market was a great find for fresh meat, veges and bread and the flea market on weekend, there's also a convenience store a block away to get any groceries. Tunnicliff Tavern couple of blocks away was a great place for dinner.

This was great alternative accommodation to a hotel, close enough to Capitol to walk, yet quiet and safe enough neighbourhood to relax for the night. I met Barrett and Shane during my stay, who were very polite and welcoming.

Great location, comfortable lodging.

The property was clean and had everything we needed. Sheets and comforter, pillows and towels were high quality and comfortable. We learned that we were close enough to walk to the Eastern Market, the Capitol (more of a hike but we're 75 and 80 so younger people could easily do it), a bus stop, breakfast nook, even a used bookstore. Many restaurants and a jazz bar (with good food) were near the Market. I would promote location more and provide info about nearby cafes, etc. Cards for the bus and Circulator (which goes around the Mall) were on the table but there was no info about where to go to get the cards recharged. A terminal where we could do so was just beyond the Eastern Market.

The carpet looked as if it could use a good cleaning (as in wash) and the rug placed on top was curling at the corners, a bit of a hazard. Otherwise, the decor was uncluttered and pleasant, and furniture comfortable enough. We'd go there again and are recommending it to friends and family who might visit D.C.
