Thank you for considering us for your upcoming North Carolina mountain vacation. The Bryson Builtmore is secluded high above Bryson City, looking out over miles of the majestic Smoky Mountains. Enjoy beautiful misty morning views of the the Smokies, or watch one of our magnificent, ever-changing sunsets all from the privacy of the wooden deck.
Our mountaintop location is a short, scenic drive around Fontana Lake into quaint Bryson City. We are located a few miles outside of town and up the mountain on a paved road; our home is nestled high on the mountain and surrounded by protected land. With only three homes further down our road, the home is private and quiet.
Bryson City is a "laid back" town free from the congestion, traffic and noise that you came here to escape. Bryson in the summer is home to kayakers practicing on the Nantahala, hikers from Europe and the friendly locals. You can enjoy and "Cup o Joe" with Pam at Smokey Mtn. Perks (our favorite is the Parisian Wrap with the freshest produce you have ever seen) before exploring the locally-owned shops, take the drive to Cades Cove in GSMNP or take a step back in time aboard The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. You can spend a weekday visiting some of the local antique shops or a day trip to visit the world famous Builtmore Estate in Asheville, before heading back for another beautiful sunset on the deck with family. There are so many options, but one of our favorites is relaxing the day away breathing the fresh mountain air with no plans.
At night, you can try your luck at the newly renovated Cherokee Casino, head downtown to The Cork and Bean for a sampling of local wine or check out the new micro brewery or simply kick back and gaze at the stars-which because of the lack of city lights, are so bright and feel like they are close enough to touch.
We are centrally located to the areas most popular attractions including: Nantahala Outdoor Center, Fontana Lake, Great Smokey Mountains National Park (GSMNP), Deep Creek, Cherokee Casino or the Tsali Trailheads. You could even try to strike it rich at the Nantahala River Gem Mine or other nearby prospecting locations. We recommend taking a pontoon boat for the day and explore Fontana Lake from Almond Boat Dock. Our property manager is a life long resident and can also offer locals advice on everything from fishing to the best place to see elk in the Cataloochee Valley.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, there is no better place: there are miles of rivers and lakes for fishing, rafting, hiking or you can tee up at the new Sequoyah National Golf course (designed by Robert Trent Jones).
Whether it’s for a lively family gathering or the intimacy of a much needed romantic get-away, we welcome you to our home where you can’t help but create memories that will last a lifetime.
EXTERIOR: The Bryson Builtmor is a single level home, perfect for folks who aren’t fond of stairs. You can relax at the outdoor table and chairs looking at the heavenly views, sipping your morning coffee and anticipating the beautiful sunset after dining outdoors at the close of your wonderful day. At night, it is easy to find your favorite stars in the wide mountain sky.
ENTRY LEVEL: Featuring an open floor plan with high ceilings in the main living area, creating a rustic lodge atmosphere. Interior accents include beautiful stained glass and a full size Bullwinkle the kids LOVE!
The front door opens onto the spacious great room, dining and kitchen area, with cathedral picture windows that let the mountain views wash over you. A comfortable sofa and a pair of rocking chairs sit opposite a gas log fireplace and provide seating for watching a movie or the big game on the large screen satellite TV.
For those who need to stay connected to the world or kids on Facebook, we have the best internet in the mountains with satellite speeds close to DSL. We updated our equipment in 2015 to ensure the best possible internet speed.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to prepare snacks or complete meals. It includes a stove with oven, microwave, blender, Slow-cooker, toaster oven and coffee maker with ample counter-top space and a large island for preparation or serving. (Ingles grocery store is conveniently located at the bottom of the road, just before you reach the mountain.)
The dining room table seats six or you may choose to eat outdoors. There is also a gas grill just outside the back door for your use.
Master Suite; The master suite is privately located in the split floor plan and beautifully appointed with a king size bed and large private bath with an oversized whirlpool tub and separate shower. Also included in the master suite is a satellite TV and DVD player.
BEDROOMS: Down the hallway is a large full bath, shared by the two nicely-sized bedrooms with queen sized beds and closets.
There is a laundry room directly across from the bathroom.
Floridian who always dreamed of a mountain vacation home. After several years of educating himself on the process of building in the mountains, he decided on a floorplan and spent the next few years enjoying the process of creating this special place in the Smokies.
This is our third year renting the home on VRBO. The home was used as a family vacation getaway for years, but we were only able to spend a few weeks a year enjoying the home. Our home has been meticulously maintained and looks like it is brand new!
Beautiful mountain views from a secluded place on top of the ridge. We have spent the Spring making beautiful additions and improvements to the property. Our new satellite internet is almost as fast as DSL with the new dish.
My wife and I stayed here from 12/17/16-12/28/16. Her family owns land and a cabin on the other side of the ridge, so we are very familiar with the area and have rented many cabins through the years. I gave this cabin 4 stars because I thought it met mostly what was mentioned in description. The only complaint I would say is that although the kitchen is equipped with a lot of items, there were some struggles when attempting to make complete meals. Some of the pans were warped and made it very hard to cook food evenly. Besides that, glasses, plates, and silverware were just fine. The view from the front porch is beautiful.
Items that were provided, but I would recommend bringing extra of:
-Large bath towel
-Zip lock bags
-Storage containers for leftovers if you cook
**Note for people not familiar with mountain cabins**
The road is paved all the way to the driveway, which is great for inexperienced mountain road drivers, keep in mind that paved roads are terrible with ice and snow. Lady bugs and other bugs tend to get through the cracks, this happens at every cabin I’ve ever stayed in, don’t be alarmed.
Make sure you receive your check-in information the few days in advanced, if you don’t contact the owner and he will provide it to you. There was a miscommunication and I never received the check-in email, luckily know the area very well and the owner was able to provide the information over the phone.
We found Len Allen's cabin via VRBO website, that was indexed to Home Alone for booking and renting. He responded quickly to arrange the rental as well to questions regarding trash dropoff and availability of features. We spent Thanksgiving week for the second time in the North Carolina mountains. The house was very well prepared for our arrival, with all rooms spic and span: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, deck overlooking the mountains and laundry room. Our grandson loved the decorated Christmas tree that was fully lit with lights and ornaments.
We brought our daughter's family including husband, 3 year old toddler, and 6 month old granddaughter. The toddler slept in one bedroom while our granddaughter slept in a cushioned crib while our daughter and son in law slept in one room and we shared the master bedroom. Bryson city is on the edge of the Smoky Mountain National Park, about 20 minutes from the cabin. The family again boarded the Polar Express in Bryson. Definitely a must this time of year.
The website described a lot 2+ acres, though with very steep hills that require extra caution with children and pets. Unfortunately, North Carolina and the South have suffered from a drought for several months and several fires caused smoke in the Georgia, Tennessee and region; unfortunate since the area is spectacular. There is a lake nearby that was virtually dry except for a stream trickling through. Still, the Fall colors were amazing though dried out.
We took advantage of the facilities, turkey in the oven, laundry for the whole crew. Both the TVs and DVDs got a lot of use. Our grandson was particularly interested in watching his animated DVDs and children's TV. The laundry room proved to be a necessary; the nearest laundromat is 30 minutes down a winding hill. Before we all ate at a local Mexican restaurant, Guayabitos which was highly recommended. Perfect for our group of 5 plus the infant. The dump was at the bottom of the mountain just as you reached Bryson. No trash pickup option, but Len gave clear instructions to reach it and provided ample storage cans and trash bags to drop off.
Six adults stayed in this home and it was a wonderful experience. It was amazing to watch the colors change throughout the week from the front porch. All three beds were great, which is highly unusual. The home furnishings were done with a sophisticated taste. Very pleasant overall experience.
This was one of the beautiful cabins we have ever stayed in there in the Carolina mountains. Beautiful time to visit the coloring book God has given to man. The question would be yes I would return to this cabin for the second time.
Thank You Mr. Allen for giving me the time to spend in your cabin home. You sure don't need to sale it for a long time to come.
This property was exactly as it was presented in the description. Beautiful scenery, clean, with everything in working order. Our family of four (with 2 teenagers) found everything to be just perfect. Comfortable beds, good water pressure in the showers, well equipped kitchen. Easy drive to Bryson City with lots to do. I would definitely recommend this property!
If you're looking for a fantastic mountain view from the deck of a rental house, this is it! Situated a few miles outside Bryson City, the Bryson Builtmor is neat and clean with all the amenities needed for a quiet mountain vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed eating our breakfast on the deck each day before packing our lunch and heading into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We ate dinner a couple evenings at restaurants in the delightful small town of Bryson City, but a couple days we returned to the cabin during the late afternoon and prepared our dinner just so we could enjoy it on the deck. By the way, the mountain sunsets are lovely!
