A charming cottage in the Perry Disctrict

I'm the kind of guy who could best be described as a perfectionist when it comes to keeping my properties in pristine condition and ready for you! I moved from Mesa, Arizona to Spokane six years ago, and I've never looked back! For my occupation, I am an editor and author, but my avocation and passion is also found in my properties ... and taking care of my traveling guests. I am always available and willing to help in any way I can.
Randy purchased this Cottage in 2016

My sister and I had a lovely time at this adorable home. It was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The weather was lovely for the first 2 days before we had a surprising bit of September snow. The beds were so comfortable and Randy was thoughtful to bring extra warm blankets over as the temperature was expected to drop quickly and he wanted to be sure we would be nice and warm. We enjoyed the immediate area - Manito Park was a beautiful place to explore and only about a 30 minute walk away. Randy was an excellent host and the whole process from check in to leaving was seamless. We will be sure to rent The Beehive if we return to Spokane again!
Traci and her twin sister, Staci were amazing guests. I had the opportunity to meet them, and they were so warm and friendly! They adhered to the house rules, they communicated well and they left our cottage clean and in good repair. We would HIGHLY recommend these sisters to other hosts, and we hope that they return to Spokane, as we'd love to have them back!
Exceptionally cute and clean, but w/ major negative - CAMERAS with audio features!!
Pros: Very cute, charming, exceptionally clean cottage. Perfect for a small family or couple. The backyard was great - a true oasis with a large green yard and wonderful canopy to sit under. Fully fenced for dogs, too. Aside from what I'm saying below, I had no other issues with the house and thought it was otherwise a very nice rental.
Cons: Surveillance cameras. 3 of them that I could count. 1 camera located on the exterior off to the side of the front door/entryway (reasonable). 1 located in the driveway. This camera faces directly INTO the house when the back door is open. This is a huge problem, because my family and I absolutely have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" INSIDE the house. The weather was great when we were there, so we kept the back door open with the clear/screened in storm door shut to let in fresh air and light. While sitting at the kitchen table, I can see, from my chair, the camera STARING RIGHT AT ME! I was in my pajamas!!! It was focused to point at the door, so anytime the door is open and the storm door closed, the camera is facing INTO the house. Worse, the bathroom entrance is directly next to the kitchen, so someone coming in and out of the bathroom, with that back door opened, would be on camera. Keeping in mind, that the back door opens to a private, fully fenced backyard.
The 3rd camera was the most concerning and infuriating of them all. It pointed directly into the private, fully fenced backyard and HAD A SPEAKER, meaning it had audio recording capabilities!! This, according to all my research, is illegal. No one in my family agreed to be audio recorded. In WA state, audio recording must be a 2 party consent. The other cameras also looked like identical makes/models but I couldn't verify if they had an audio feature, too.
My family includes a young child (under 5), who was not always wearing a shirt while inside the property & PRIVATE backyard. So imagine my horror when I realize that my partially clothed child was being video recorded and our conversations on the deck of the PRIVATE, fully enclosed backyard were also possibly being audio recorded.
The owner says we agreed to the surveillance videos on property when we agreed to the rent the house. I can't find that anywhere in the listing. That doesn't make it legal to record us indoors or in the private yard under "reasonable expectations of privacy".
The accusation of these guests is not only disturbing, but completely untrue. I explained all of this to them already, but I think the world needs to know the actuality of the situation. We do have security cameras as it states in the listing. There are also signs on the property (right at the entry) that say that there are security cameras. NONE of them point into ANY part of the cottage. All we can see is the driveway/street, the entryway to the front porch/street, and the entry from the backyard. None of them point to the house. Oh, and the cameras may be capable of recording audio, but they are not set to do so. Not only did these guests remove my cameras, they are now insinuating that they are invasive to privacy, which they are not. These guests have no way of even seeing what the camera's view is, so they have no way of knowing what is even visible, should they ever be looked at. Based on the accusations of these guests, I would NOT recommend them to other hosts. So sad.
This was a great place just minutes from the Perry District. We had a great time walking around and enjoying the amenities. Mornings in the backyard are amazing. Very quiet neighborhood and all the amenities of being home.
Thank you for your kind words, Brian. We appreciate you being such a great guest, and we'd love to have you back anytime you're in town!
Great house in a quiet neighborhood
This house was very convenient, located close to the cute downtown. House was well equipped! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Love the Beehive!
The Beehive was a wonderful place to stay for a weekend in Spokane! We really enjoyed the beautiful patio in the evenings. The house is spotless and decorated to a tee. Already looking forward to coming back!
We loved staying at the Beehive with our 2 boys. The proximity to the Rockwood Bakery (a must), grocery stores and the Riverfront Park was great. The house was very clean and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. There was a small issue with the electronic door lock not working when we arrived which resulted in having to call Randy (not ideal as we’re Canadian and try to avoid roaming charges on our phones) but it was dealt with quickly and there was nothing but smooth sailing the rest of our stay. We’d love to come back if ever in the area.
Hi Sara, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and we'd love to have you back anytime you are in town. Thanks for being such great guests, and I apologize for the lock code issue ... it's been fixed!
