|Minimum Stay||7 - 14 nights|
'Lazybones' is a private villa with its own pool, 3 patios and a fenced in garden providing plenty of privacy. With the constant South East coast breeze, the villa stays cool throughout the day and is ideal for both couples or groups looking for a relaxing or an active holiday. It is also suitable for families too as the villa contains a playroom, has a dartboard and basketball net and there is ample room in the garden to play ball games or chill out on the internet as the villa also has Superfast Fibre Optic WiFi. There are sunbeds around the pool and 2 hammocks on the upstairs patio for those who like to have a sneaky siesta or simply just enjoy the panoramic view of the sea and the local area. The downstairs patio, upstairs patio and both bedrooms 1 & 2 all have sea views. The monkeys playing in the trees alongside the villa are very entertaining and are a favourite attraction for most guests.
We are Steve & Fiona Goodsell and we have one son, Scott, who is 15 years old. We live in Wales but sometimes dream of moving to Barbados because of it's friendliness, slow pace of life and fabulous climate all year. We originally visited Barbados for our honeymoon in 1994 but could not resist returning time and time again. Steve runs his own Property Services Company and Fiona is a part-time administrator. Whilst in Barbados, Steve enjoys watching a local cricket match, fishing off Skeetes Bay, or in the evening he can be found drinking rum and playing dominoes with the locals. Fiona's favourite day out is a visit to The Crane Hotel for lunch or relaxing at Bottom Bay/Crane Beach. Scott likes to play in the pool, go to the beach or sail on a catamaran and swim with the turtles.
Fiona Goodsell purchased this villa in 2006
We discovered the villa half built in 2005 and although we did not intend to take on a building project at that time, it was an opportunity not to be missed, as it was in an idyllic peaceful location and the internal layout was great. So we knew that this would be ideal place for us but also a place that guests would enjoy because of it's privacy and chance to experience the real Barbados including monkeys playing in the trees alongside the villa. A walk across country to Skeetes Bay has great views across Culpepper Island and up to East Point Lighthouse. The East Coast is on our doorstep and a short drive away is St John's church and the view from there over to Bathsheba is stunning. A visit to The Roundhouse in Bathsheba is not be missed and neither is the view from Cherry Tree Hill.
Privacy & Peacefulness making it suitable for couples but it is also a very social villa too as it is large enough for 2 families to share. There are 3 separate patios so it can be as social or as quiet as each guest would like. This location gives guests the chance to experience the real Barbados and most guests love seeing the monkeys playing in the trees alongside the villa.
Lazybones was a perfect place to stay to experience beautiful Barbados! We loved the fact that we were in amongst the locals, giving us an opportunity to see everyday life in Barabdos. We hired a car for our two week stay and it was definately needed. Whilst there are regular buses having a car with young children was perfect way for us to see the island at our own pace.
Lazybones itself is a lovely villa perfect for a family or couples. The pool is an ideal size and was regularly cleaned for us. Eric next door provided us with lots of local knowledge and places to see and things to do. Sheila, housekeeper, was also extremely friendly and helpful for us.
Two weeks at lazybones was not enough time for us and none of us were ready to leave. Fiona ensures that the villa has everything that you could need. Days spent at the villa included lounging about in the hammocks,. Watching the monkeys play in the late evening sun or just soaking up the sun with a lovely sea breeze to help cool us off!
Most places were within a 20/30 minute drive and the highway is an experience within itself!!
The visitor book in lazybones provides you with lots of ideas for places to go and see and restaraunts to eat out at.
We could not fault our stay at Lazybones and the communication that we had between Fiona prior to and after our stay.
If you are looking for two weeks of blissful relaxing sunshine then this is a place not to be ignored!
We hope to return in the future.
Thank you Fiona for allowing us to experience Lazybones....we had a fab time!!
This was our first and only trip to Barbados. Our traveling habits are to only visit a place one time. Barbados is a beautiful island, and we were really able to appreciate it from this house as it is located in a quiet, friendly, relaxing neighborhood. The first few days there we appreciated the hospitality of Sheila the housekeeper who supplied us with a few days of groceries, plus Eric the maintenance guy lives next door. Eric also really helped us out when we were having difficulty getting cash from the banks. Turns out the local ATMs can run dry on pay days; so our cash problem was easily solved by waiting a day and retrying the ATM again.
Lazybones was the perfect place to relax and recover from traveling. I was skeptical about the pool size based on the pictures, but it turned out to be the perfect size for our family of 5. We swam in the pool every day, even at night! The pool goes to 6 feet deep and has a small ledge all the way around it which proved to be very helpful to our 7 year old as she was not tall enough to touch bottom. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty of closet space. The lounge was relaxing and we used the space for a little movie watching. The movie selection provided was pretty good, but we also just downloaded a few movies to our ipads for the kids. The kitchen is well supplied with everything we needed to do our cooking. Cooking at "home" was ALOT cheaper than eating out, and we packed picnic lunches and snacks quite often using the supplied coolers and ice packs. We boiled water to drink - not sure if we needed to, but it helped the water to taste better. The hammocks in the loft were fabulous - easy to stay cooled off up there, plus a little Rum punch (popsicles for the kids) and the ocean breeze... marvelous!
We rented a car and were able to drive to all 11 parishes no problem (with the help of google maps of course). The longest drive was St. Lucy Animal cave which was only 1 hour drive away. The woods right next to the house were fun to explore, kept the kids cool, and there is a natural shower at the bottom of the ravine that the locals use for showering. The monkeys and birds also like to hang out in there too. It is a short walk to the cliff edge to overlook Culpepper island. We made it a habit to walk down to the local mini mart and get the daily paper.
If I could, I would transplant Lazybones to the next place we travel to and stay there!
Our second stay at Lazybones & we loved it just as much as the first time.
We were happy to see the monkeys playing most days as we didn't get to see them last year, they were very entertaining.
We visited Miami Beach which was lovely and had some great Bajan fish cakes & rum punch from Mr Delicious snack bar. All the beaches are amazing and the sea so warm & inviting our favourite is Carlisle Bay.
We ate out a couple of times at Champers, one occasion was for my birthday & I was made to feel very special even menu on our table was done with happy birthday and my name on it as a souvenir.
Hope to return soon, it's such a lovely island and Lazybones a great villa to stay in.
We really enjoyed our stay at Lazy Bones. It suited us to stay in a quiet rural area and we enjoyed getting to know our little area as well as some of local take out and restaurants. The pool was great and we enjoyed it everyday. We left behind a bunch of additional children's toys and floats too!
The house worked really well for our two families - lots of space for everyone. One note that the "playroom" doesn't have bunkbeds anymore - a pull out couch instead - and when it is pulled out, it can't really be used to play - but not really an issue as the indoor dining room (which we never used - preferring to breakfast in the kitchen or outside on the patio) has loads of room for children to spread out and play. The house was clean and well set up. The kitchen has everything you would ever need. Having a washing machine and line was fantastic and we managed to keep ourselves in clean towels by doing a load every other day or so. It is a windy spot and can be quite fresh in the pool in the morning but the breeze was always welcome - especially at night.
We explored the whole island and spent a fair bit of time at Accra beach where it was safe for kids to bodyboard and swim. Chairs and umbrellas could be rented as well which was nice. Lazy Bones was a good home base and we were glad to be away from the noise and people in the more populated and touristy areas on the south and west coasts.
Owners as well as house keepers were both very friendly n gr8 communicators covering all queries and questions posed. A bit of a drive from all the action but gives you that peace and quite required when on holiday. Gr8 use of space and meets all the requirements of a home away from home.
This was our first visit to Barbados and Lazybones and we loved it so much that we have booked again for next year.
We found the villa to be very clean and well equipped, we enjoyed that the villa was in a quiet remote location. The pool was great swam everyday and there was always a lovely breeze from the sea. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the monkeys.
You do need a car but you can be anywhere on the island in no time which was great as we loved seeing some of the great sights Barbados has to offer.
We loved Bottom Bay, Foul Bay and Carlisle Bay was great for swimming and snorkelling, the sea was lovely and warm, we had only paddled out up to our knees and a couple of turtles swam by. We also did a catamaran cruise with Tiami which was a fantastic day out.
We ate out at Lobster Alive which is just up from Carlisle Bay and if you love lobster you will be in your element.
I celebrated my birthday while out there this fell on a Sunday and we booked to have the Sunday buffet breakfast at The Crane with the gospel singers singing, this was amazing and well worth a visit.
We also loved Bathsheba on the east cost very prehistoric, we visited the fish market where we brought some fresh flying fish and mahi mahi fish to take back to the villa to cook.
While visiting Bathsheba we had a lovely meal at The Atlantis, service was very good and views breath taking.
Closer to the villa we visited DeView which is on the road to Ragged Point Lighthouse, we used to call in on our way back from sightseeing to enjoy a glass or two of rum and coke and a bajan meal overlooking the fabulous views.
We also popped in to Marco Polo, very welcoming, we only called in for a drink but ended up eating as well as we were made to feel very at home.
The locals are very friendly and we felt very relaxed.
Fiona was very helpful and always answered any questions we had while away.
All in all a lovely laid back holiday at Lazybones
On the South East Coast in a peaceful idyllic location, walking distance to Skeetes Bay, Ragged Point/East Point Lighthouse. 5 minutes drive to the beautiful Bottom Bay, 10 minutes drive to Sam Lords and the famous Crane Beach. 5 minutes drive to the local shop and bar and 15 minutes drive to Six Roads where you can find a supermarket, bank with cash machine, pharmacy, post office, petrol station, fast food outlets plus children's play area. It is 20 minutes drive to St Lawrence Gap on the South Coast or the villa is an ideal base for also exploring the scenic East Coast and Bathsheba is 15 minutes drive away. If you prefer to chill out, you can simply relax by the pool and watch the monkeys playing in the trees alongside the villa. In Barbados, Cricket is a passion so if you like to watch a game and have a drink or two, there is a local club less than a mile away.
