3 bedroom to sleep 6 persons in an ideal villa
For a choice of three bona fide taverns the small village of Kato Horio at the head of the Dyktynna Gorge is just a 3km drive, whilst a 6km drive will bring you to the village of Malaxa where there are two taverns boasting a little more sophistication and amazing aerial views over Chania town and Souda Bay.
For basic necessities, the village of Kontopoula (5km) has a small mini-market, but for stocking up the larder there’s a really good supermarket on the outskirts of Souda that you will pass by on your way from Chania airport. It’s also worth noting that every week day a bread van delivers fresh bread to the village around 7pm.

This was a dream destination, even better than indicated in the information and images available online. Amazing property which suited us and our teenagers perfectly - opportunities for shared time together whilst still giving them the chance to have their own space. Would work equally well for extended families or friends. Air con in every bedroom and wifi all great. Property has exceptional facilities inside and out, very clean and well maintained. However what was truly exceptional was the support from Nikos the owner. He was very supportive and went out of his way to ensure we had what we needed and some excellent advice about what do and see. We also had the most wonderful home grown and cooked food provided for us on a number of occasions.
As a location the villa is located in a wonderful and quiet village in the foothills of the White Mountains and easy access to both Chania and rural Crete. We were able to happily spend time at the Villa itself using the pool but there is so much to do in the area. We explored Chania (well worth doing), the mountains and coastal areas around the west and south coast. Snorkelling highly recommended, water clarity is very good and the sights spectacular.
An amazing place in a wonderful setting.
Just 13 Km inland from Chania, but a million miles away in time, this small village in the foothills of the White Mountains remains almost entirely unaffected by tourism and life still revolves around the tending of crops and livestock as it has done for hundreds of years and is connected by numerous tiny roads to many other small villages similarly lost in time and on our map we counted at least a dozen all within 10km. Gerolakos has a petrol station and a small cafeneon run by Angeliki who in the summer puts out a maximum of three tables in her courtyard and with a bit of advance notice she will be delighted to cook you a selection of simple Cretan meals. We are working on a menu for her in Greek and English to make it easier.
