clean, I love it
Mr. Ebrahim (Apt. manager) best customer service,
The room is fantastic! Area not so much.
Be sure you know New York before coming. Know the safe neighborhoods and plan on parking your car in a safe spot. (Long Island City, Manhattan hotels, New Jersey side of Hudson, basically close to the rivers and your good). Bad spots are (Jamaica, downtown brooklyn, queens). This house is part of Jamaica. The spot is likely safe, from other reviews I have read but the appearance once you arrive does not seem that way. We had a homeless person digging in trash right outside the house next to the door you enter from. Their is no parking at this house. Subway across street is nice but you will hear it all night long. It is 14 feet from the window every 7-8 minutes. Owner has tried to block out noise with double pane windows but you still hear it. We booked house not knowing anything about New York and judging by pictures and price this seemed great. Upon arrival, safety was an issue for us and we didn't feel safe, though others have said they felt completely opposite. We are from Florida and maybe that is just us. Anyhow, we didn't feel safe and we moved to a hotel in Long Island city. Notified Quaizar of the issue. He was great and helpful, however remember he is in business and has to make up for lost time. So we stayed at the house a grand total of 12 minutes and half our vacation budget was wiped out that we had been saving for a year for. Knowledge is power and lack of knowledge is very costly in New York City. Please heed my advice and research safe neighborhoods and places to stay here. This city will take your hard earned vacation money as quick as it can. In this case, it cleaned out half my budget in 12 minutes.
SUBWAY- The trade-off, of being so conveniently close to the subway station, is the accompanying noise of the subway.– Most of the guests love it because after a long hard day/night out in the city, returning home bone-tired can get right off the subway walk across the street to their apartment crash into their beds.
WINDOWS are sound proof double insulated half inch glass thickness. However it means nothing – you can still hear the noise. Basically – I do let the guests know about it – most of them seem to have no problem.
PARKING – The rental unit does not have its own parking- There are plenty of free/meter parking right outside the building. Parking can be both easy and difficult (nightmare) – Subway being across the street, people park their cars and take the train to work/errands. Free parking opens up every now and then. I usually find parking six out of ten times easily.
NEW YORK CITY is a very diverse city and QUEENS, where the property is located, is the most diverse county in the country. WOODHAVEN is a bustling neighborhood offering many flavors. You can get Italian, Chinese Japanese and Hispanic cuisines within a block. If you walk a couple of blocks further you can get Thai and Afghan food also.
HOMELESS people – you can find them everywhere and in front of Trump Tower also. Unfortunately, it is a fact of life in New York.
SAFETY- New York City (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Bronx Staten Island) is considered one of the safest city in America. Many a time guests come in very late at night (personally I am very apprehensive) – they do not seem to have any problems.
QUEENS postal zip code is divided into 114 (Jamaica), 113 (Flushing) 110(Long Island City) 116(Rockaways). Zip code starting with 114 is referred to as Jamaica (Postal Map). Some of the towns in zip code 114 are Woodhaven, Kew Gardens, Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Bellerose, Floral Park, Jamaica (11433), Jamaica Estates, Holliswood, Queens Village etc.
Nice place, good price, kind owner
We rented unit 2F, located on the second floor of a building right across the street form the Woodhaven av. metro station in Queens, obviously there is noise from the train crossing at all times and we thought it would be a problem, but we went to bed every day so tired after walking all day that we slept all night, we don't even notice it. However this could be an issue for other people. We had relatives across the street, so it was perfect to meet and arrange things together. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable, has a huge tv, nice to see some tv at night to rest after a long day walking in NYC. We are very picky with cleaning, so we found the apartment in general clean, but would recommend an extra cleaning to the little oven-toaster on the bench, we did not use it, not clean at all!!, and we think it is time to change the tableware, it is a bit old and worn. This house has a very good price for NYC and Manhattan prices so we found it very convenient, we got groceries and prepared breakfasts and small dinners, and were all day in NYC, subway in NYC is very efficient so we moved around all day in subway and came back home just crossing the street form the station. Previous guests left some items that we used, other people may not agree with that, but it is very practical (coffee filters, salt, sugar, condiments and so on), we also left some things. Quaizar the owner is very nice, responded mails with questions quickly before check in, and let us in before the regular check in time, we drove from DC and were very tired. We met him in our first day and was very nice, he even offered a second apartment (unit 3R) on the third floor and on the other side of the building where the noise of the train was not a problem. He was very nice in offering this apartment so that we could stay more confortable, we only used one bedroom. That was very kind, we appreciated…This apartment is smaller but very clean including kitchen, ideal for smaller groups. We loved our stay in NYC and found this place very confortable with a good price.
Nice place! Clean, safe and convenient
Our family of 7 fit comfortably in this apartment.
PARKING: Parking is not included, but we were able to find on street parking for our large SUV a few blocks away. There were no restrictions/street sweeping, so we parked after unloading and didn't move it again until we checked out.
CONVENIENCE: There's a deli/small grocery store across the street to pick up basics, a drug store and a dollar store a couple blocks away for forgotten items. And a wonderful bakery - try the guava turnovers!
TRAVEL: It was super convenient to get a metro pass and take the subway or bus wherever we needed to go. Take note: There are Woodhaven stops on two different subway lines - we had quite an adventure discovering that. We used google maps to navigate.
KITCHEN: Well stocked with dishes, but do pack your own groceries - even the basics: salt, pepper, ketchup. We did enjoy some pancakes one morning using mix that was provided for us. We mostly ate out, and ordered take-out from the Mexican place downstairs (delicious large portions).
NOISE: The subway does run frequently on the elevated track right next to the building, but we were able to sleep. We played a direcTV instrumental music channel in each room to help provide some white noise. Otherwise, the building was quiet.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: There are two futons in the living room (one would fit a child) and the beds were as described. The bedding was clean and comfortable, and extra sheets, blankets and pillows were provided for our futon sleepers.
BATHROOMS: Both were very clean with plenty of towels for our family. It was great having an extra bathroom to use while someone was enjoying the fantastic shower!
TV: A huge TV in the living room and smaller ones in each bedroom with DirecTV. PARENTS beware - there are adult channels available. We didn't allow our kids to even use the guide since we didn't want them to read the descriptions. Perhaps parental controls could be set to block that content providing renters with the code if they wish to override?
SECURITY: The building is on a commercial street, but in a nice residential neighborhood. We stayed over Christmas break and enjoyed walking around the neighborhood looking at Christmas lights.
HOST: Though we missed meeting Quaizar since we were on the go most of our stay, he kept in touch regularly via text. We felt comfortable that if there were an issue, it would be addressed.
We would definitely stay again.
Great common space and proximity to subway!
Apartment is ideal for heading into the city and returning to literally walk across the street and be "home." The DOUBLE keyless entry feels safe and secure. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat nearby, but best of all there is a C-town grocery store only 2-3 blocks away.
You will hear the subway, but it never disturbed my sleep.
For the money, I didn't see a better common space. We chose it for this as we knew we would be gathering a small crowd for Christmas (10). I will caution you to let your host know specifics of what you might need or expect in the kitchen, as what you may think as standard ware could be missing. For instance there were no hot pads, cookie sheets, small kitchen sized towels, mixing bowls or flatware for more than 2. (Also no toiletries in the bathroom or comforters on the bed)
Which brings me to your host Quaizer. (Did I spell that right?) for EVERY issue I had, he PROMPTLY went out of his way to remedy it. He was there to greet us upon our arrival and made several trips back to take care of things. He was a kind, dependable, and gracious host. The boiler had some issues while we were there and he arranged an alternative space for us in the event it got too cold (which never happened)
All in all I'd highly recommend the space, especially if you don't plan to cook a lot. The pans etc, were a bit challenging. By the way, I purchased measuring cups and spoons and left them there so they should be ready for the next guests!!!!! We made some fine Christmas cookies!
Very noisy location.
The apartment is quite well equipped and was clean and comfortable, but as the elevated train line runs immediately outside the bedrooms, it is very noisy. The train runs 24 hours a day. We decided to move after our first night although we were booked for several days.
