This architect-designed mid-century modern house features stunning indoor-outdoor spaces and fantastic views of Carmel Valley and Garzas Canyon. South-facing walls have huge steel and glass sliding doors that open to the round pool with surrounding Carmel stone walls, surrounding portico, patio, and expansive views.

The one acre yard is completely fenced and a great space for your dog (limit one with pre-approval) to explore and play. The property includes 75 olive trees (inspired by good friends in Greece), numerous fruit trees, berries, and a variety of drought tolerant and native plants.

The entire house was extensively updated during 2011 through 2012, with all new custom limestone counter tops, plumbing fixtures, appliances, and heating system. The kitchen features all new premium stainless steel Bosch appliances, including refrigerator, gas range, ventilation system, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. Kitchen cookware and appliances include a Nespresso espresso system (coffee pods supplied), conventional coffee-maker, gas cooktop, oven, microwave, toaster, Caphalon pots and pans, Henckels knives, and glass and flatware to serve 12. Entertaining is easy with kitchen bartops open to the dining room and also outdoors to the pool area.

All bedrooms have been remodeled and feature new Simmons premium pillow-top mattresses, Egyptian cotton high thread count sheets, artisan wool blankets from MacAuslands Woollen Mills of Prince Edward Island, down comforters, and a variety of down and other types pillows.

The master bedroom has a sliding glass door that opens to the pool area, and a private master bathroom with new tile shower and soaking tub. The second bedroom has a sliding glass door that faces east and opens to the large fenced yard.

The house is heated with a new energy-efficient radiant system, with independent temperature control for each bedroom and for the living room and kitchen. The large living room fireplace has gas logs that provide supplemental warmth and ambience.

Electronic entertainment and communication features include: open wireless broadband throughout the house and poolside areas, DirecTV high definition satellite TV, Sharp HD LED TV, Bose Cinemate sound system for TV and music, BluRay CD/DVD player, and Apple TV. All bedrooms have clock radios, and two bedrooms have Sonos speakers for streaming music and radio.

Taza's location in Carmel Valley is typically above the ocean 'fog line' and occasional fog usually burns off by mid to late morning to give sunny days. Real time weather conditions from the weather station at Taza can be found at Weather Underground by using this link:

About Eric Rey

We live in Berkeley (San Francisco Bay Area) and love Carmel Valley for the scenery, hiking, nearby beaches, food, and wine. One of us is an interior designer, and the other works in research. Taza is named for our dog Tasman, a 6 year old (acts like 3 year old) retriever mix rescue from Illinois. He loves the 1 acre fenced yard, hiking, the beach, and greeting all living creatures.

Eric Rey purchased this house in 2010

Why Eric Rey chose Central Coast California

We chose this property because the location in Carmel Valley is above the usual fog line, and because of the great views and wonderful layout of the house and pool. We love the layout and the site - it was obviously custom-designed and built originally in 1956.

It's rumored that the property was a getaway for Hollywood folks - the house and pool layout, with pass-through kitchen bar, is perfect for entertaining or just hanging out.

What makes this house unique

Walking into the pool area from the front door is magical. The round pool is surrounded by Carmel stone walls and magnificent oak trees. The site is perched with expansive views of Carmel Valley and Garzas Canyon. The living room opens to the pool patio, creating a fantastic indoor/outdoor space.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic time and stay at your house, as far as we are concerned the house was everything we hoped it would be and more..

When we plan another visit to California I will be sure to send you a email, as we would love to come and stay at your house again.

Thank you again for all your help, and with meeting our requests of a high chair and BBQ set etc.

Best experience ever!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much to Eric for a wonderful and relaxing stay. I can't say enough about how professional the whole process was. So thank you! As for the house, it's spectacular and even the pictures and descriptions cannot do it justice. I highly highly recommend this house if you want a luxurious getaway and do something different than the hotels in Monterey or Carmel. Carmel Valley is such a great area with so many things to do. Check out the wineries or go hiking at the spectacular and cleanest park ever, Garland Regional Park. Or drive into Carmel or Monterey which are quite close by. Whatever you do, you should consider this house because you won't regret it.

Thanks!

Delightful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We echo the many wonderful reviews this property has received. This is a beautiful well taken care of home in a lovely setting. Communication with the owner was easy and prompt. We attended a wedding at Holman Ranch, and the location could not have been better (within a couple miles). Our only regret , as others have stated is that we did not book this for a longer stay! All aspects of this VRBO are 5 stars!

Absolutely unbeatable!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a long weekend with another couple and our dogs, to celebrate two birthdays, and this property exceeded every expectation. I'm an interior designer, so I'm rather picky, and I couldn't find anything not to like. Beautifully decorated, impeccable maintained. Gorgeous grounds with lovely plantings and a great pool.

We're familiar with the area; we've often stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch. But we wanted something a bit easier for this shared getaway, and we couldn't have asked for anything more. I can't wait to come back here!

The hosts were incredibly responsive and communicative as well.

Fabulous retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Taza was seamless! The home is very well appointed and exudes mid-century modern cool! We loved the pool and the views cannot be beat. The bedrooms were comfortable and had great window treatments- perfect for sleeping in. With great restaurants and tasting rooms so close, it's tempting to go out, but this kitchen (& outdoor grill) make staying in a great option. The homeowners were always quick to respond and extremely pleasant. We'd go back tomorrow if possible!

Beautifully decorated, clean, breathtaking view of the valley!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the layout of the property. Big open living spaces and beautiful master bedroom and guest bedroom. The only negative is no bathroom for the third extra bedroom. The view was breathtaking, the pool was warm and everyone had a wonderful time. We appreciate all of the covered parking as well and it was very close to the wedding venue at Holman Ranch.

Amazing !

  • 5 of 5

We weren't sure about writing an outstanding review for the Taza home because we wanted to keep this hidden gem a secret. If you are looking for a home that exceeds all of your expectations then this is the place ! First, the host were above and beyond gracious ! The home is in a serene setting located along the hillside in Carmel Valley. Location is perfect for getting away for a peaceful weekend, yet close enough to wine tasting, hiking, and other activities in Monterey, Carmel and Carmel Valley. The layout of the house was perfect for 6 people although the only drawback was the 3rd bedroom had twin beds but we drew straws to see which couple got the twin beds. The house was top of the line all the way ! The sliding glass doors created a large opening to the view of the pool and the valley. The pictures don't even come close to the magnificent view. The kitchen is fully equipped with top of the line appliances and stock. The beds, linens and amenities are all top of the line. We requested to have the pool heated and enjoyed swimming in February. Try not to plan too much away from the home. We ended up cancelling dinner plans and stayed home and cooked so that we could spend more time enjoying our time there. We can't wait to book this property again !

The property is about a 15 minute drive from the beaches in Carmel and Monterey, and far enough inland to avoid coastal fog most of the time. Carmel Valley Village is about one mile from the property, and has plenty of great wine-tasting, galleries, and restaurants. In the immediate area there are ample recreational opportunities with miles of great trails for hiking and horseback riding. Multiple golf courses are within 5-7 miles, and Laguna Seca Raceway is 7 miles away.
