So glad you found us! Dancing Fox Cabin is in keeping with our circa 1842 farmstead home ambiance. Often early settlers would erect a simple cabin on the same property prior to building a more permanent home and Dancing Fox Cabin is a reflection and our vision of one of those early structures, yet features the comforts we all enjoy. The cabin resides back of our property behind our home, however you will have no lack of privacy during your stay.
With it’s rural locale setting, simple shed roof style outline, barn wood exterior cladding, interior walls sheathed in white-washed boards, wide-plank pine flooring, hand-made cabinetry with vintage chalkboard counter tops and barn beam framing…you will be enveloped by the subtle feelings of our pioneers, a sense of soothing well-being and one of a simpler more calmer lifestyle but with modern amenities.
The Dancing Fox Cabin is your opportunity to experience what most lodging in Ohio doesn't offer. Imagine as you follow its pathway to your front porch, stepping across the threshold of an original swinging barn door and upon entry you'll begin feasting your eyes, spirit and senses upon … another time and another place.
Our settler-style cabin may become an unforgettable highlight during your visit to our area. Our initial goal was to utilize in the building process as many reclaimed, recycled, vintage and antique materials as possible in the construction of this self-built structure. To this end result, we were quite successful. We estimate that approximately 95% of its total materials have been salvaged and re-purposed from various sources in northern Ohio! The blending of all these various components into a harmonious finished product is one that is memorable, soothing, and yet to many, exciting. As different as the exterior’s first impression may be, the cabin’s interior is where your visual senses will be captivated. Wherever your eyes and hands rove you will discover subtly aged textures, hand created items and coordinated color palettes that enhance the feelings of subtle rustic relaxation. These time worn nuances now re-shed their light from simpler by-gone days and are captured by our cabin’s cozy comfortable environment. The lasting effect is one you won't forget. “Memories are made at Dancing Fox Cabin.”
Even though our cabin is not set in the deep woods nor is it secluded, our “off the beaten path” farmland environment removes you from both the heavy traffic and people congestion normally associated with other vacation rentals. Our centralized location is very convenient to the multitudes of attractions, events and activities found throughout the entire north central Ohio region. Lake Erie’s south shore, Cedar Point Amusement Park, fishing, boating, antique shops and flea markets, dining, golfing, historical attractions, wineries and festivals are all within quick and easy driving distances. Major highways such as the Ohio 80/90 Turnpike, U.S. State Rt. 20 and others are practically at your doorstep and conveniences for groceries and other necessities are only minutes away.

Another lodging alternative is our circa 1842 Harpster-Davenport Guest House located on the same property.
One of life’s most exciting pleasures is creating unique lasting memories for our guests. As travelers ourselves, we seek out the creative and unique lodging experiences, one that will be remembered, talked about and shared with others for years to come. Knowing the history of our 1842 home and understanding how families lived while building their main family home such as ours, we decided to share and offer an experience to others. For over a year, we scoured, gathered and tore down a building here and there to locate salvaged materials, re-purposed items, and gently used pieces and parts from various locations throughout our 4 county area. After we felt we had enough materials gathered, the challenging process of building began. After 1.5 years of non-stop hard work, not to mention the creative thinking that had to go into the building process to make all the parts and pieces fit and come together, Dancing Fox was born and we absolutely love it! To us, it's a treasure trove of local history, stories and ourselves. We promise, you will remember Dancing Fox Cabin too.
One-of-kind cabin in Ohio and rated in the top 10 in the United States for being highly re-purposed, eco-friendly and being a usable accommodation with all the creature comforts.
Hi Janell and Paul,
I want to thank you for your hospitality this past weekend. We really loved the cabin and all the history behind it! I wish we were able to spend more time enjoying the cabin and the beautiful surroundings. I will definitely love to make it back some time. We also took your suggestion and ate dinner at your local golf course. We loved the food and the atmosphere. The boys liked it so much that they wanted to go back Sunday to eat there again :D
I hope you guys have an awesome season! May God continue to bless you!
A stay at Dancing Fox cabin is like a warm, tight embrace welcoming you home. There is a spirit of joy, warmth, and serenity which surrounds you, and a permeating comfort that fills you. We found the local business owners of Bellevue to be gregarious and welcoming as well. We WILL be back, AND shouting from the mountain top for everyone to chose this VRBO !
My best friend and I needed a girls' weekend and found this cabin online. We fell in love with the pictures and when we stepped into the cabin, the feeling was solidified. Adorable cabin with perfect little touches everywhere you look. Cozy and comfortable. We had everything we needed and felt totally recharged when we left. Already planning our next visit!
My partner and I thought this was a super cute cabin. We loved the fact that it was built from 95% reclaimed materials! There was just enough stuff to cook and clean, the beds were actually pretty comfortable, and the set up was well planned out. We didn't realize just how close it was to the house that the owners live in, which threw us off. We felt like we were staying in someone's guest house because of how close it was. They were perfectly nice, though. Paul met us about 10 minutes after we arrived and gave us a run down of some of the little things of the cabin that needed explaining, along with with some interesting history about the property. We didn't see them the rest of the visit, but we did see a couple other people that were staying in their second floor guest house (attached to the main house). The garden was thoroughly enjoyed since we were welcome to harvest anything we wanted from there and we enjoyed a late night dip in the hot tub as well! Overall, we liked this place and it was very well planned and maintained, but it's not really our scene. NOW... that doesn't mean that we haven't already talked it up to our friends and family that would absolutely love the place! I'm guessing there will be a handful of people in the next year that will be renting the cabin because of us.
My son and I stayed at Dancing Fox due to its proximity to White Star Quarry as we were both doing SCUBA certification classes. The hosts were incredibly gracious and friendly, and the cabin had everything we needed and more. We would definitely stay here again!
We had an amazing time during our wedding anniversary getaway! Even though the cabin is located on Paul and Janell's property, you still feel like you're in your own little space. They are incredibly accommodating, and even surprised us with an anniversary cake....and it was delicious! The amenities are more than you could ask for during a weekend getaway--hot tub, fire pit, garden, stocked kitchen with necessities and basic spices, etc. We didn't have to worry about a thing with grocery stores and markets all around. We visited for the purpose of hiking and kayaking in Sandusky (20 minutes away) and Vermilion (45 minutes away) and we felt perfectly safe leaving our kayaks and gear on the property if we weren't using them. The cabin is GORGEOUS and perfectly decorated for a cozy, comfortable stay. We absolutely loved it and will be back without a doubt. Thank you Paul and Janell!
A very peaceful and relaxing setting. The cabin was very accommodating and interesting. Paul and Janelle were very friendly and generous! My favorite part about the cabin is all the repurposed furniture and decorations. If I could make one improvement it would be to add a full length mirror. The bathroom mirror is small and hard to get really close to. We loved staying here and will be back again! We will certainly be recommending it to our friends me family!
