Bellevue Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cozy, relaxing country setting in a repurposed, reclaimed prairie style cabin

So glad you found us! Dancing Fox Cabin is in keeping with our circa 1842 farmstead home ambiance. Often early settlers would erect a simple cabin on the same property prior to building a more permanent home and Dancing Fox Cabin is a reflection and our vision of one of those early structures, yet features the comforts we enjoy. it sits behind our home as it would have in earlier times, however it has it's privacy with trees and more.

With it’s rural locale setting, simple shed roof style outline, barn wood exterior cladding, interior walls sheathed in white-washed boards, wide-plank pine flooring, rustic hand-made kitchen cabinetry and barn beam framing…you will be enveloped by the subtle feelings of our pioneers, a sense of soothing well-being and one of a simpler more calmer lifestyle but with some modern amenities.

The Dancing Fox Cabin is your opportunity to experience what most lodging in Ohio doesn't offer. Imagine as you follow its pathway to your front porch, stepping across the threshold of your original swinging barn door entry and then begin feasting your eyes, spirit and senses upon … another time and another place.

Our settler-style cabin may become an unforgettable highlight of your visit to our area. Our initial goal was to utilize in the building process as many reclaimed, recycled, vintage and antique materials as possible in the construction of this self-built structure. To this end result, we were quite successful. We estimate that approximately 95% of its total materials have been salvaged and re-purposed from various sources in northern Ohio! The blending of all these various components into a harmonious finished product is one that is memorable, soothing, and yet to many, exciting. As different as the exterior’s first impression may be, the cabin’s interior is where your visual senses will be captivated. Wherever your eyes and hands rove you will discover subtly aged textures, hand created items and coordinated color palettes that enhance the feelings of subtle rustic relaxation. These time worn nuances now re-shed their light from simpler by-gone days and are captured by our cabin’s cozy environment. The lasting effect is one you won't forget. “Memories are made at Dancing Fox Cabin.”

Even though our cabin is not set in the deep woods nor is it secluded, our “off the beaten path” farmland environment removes you from both the heavy traffic and people congestion normally associated with other vacation rentals. Our centralized location is very convenient to the multitudes of attractions, events and activities found throughout the entire north central Ohio region. Lake Erie’s south shore, Cedar Point Amusement Park, fishing, boating, antique shops, dining, golfing, wineries and festivals are all within quick and easy driving distances. Major highways such as the Ohio Turnpike, U.S. State Rt. 20 and others are practically at your doorstep and conveniences for groceries and other necessities are only minutes away.

Another lodging alternative is our circa 1842 Harpster-Davenport Guest House located on the same property.

About Janell and Paul Davenport

One of life’s most exciting pleasures is creating unique lasting memories for our guests. As travelers ourselves, we seek out the creative and unique lodging experiences, one that will be remembered, talked about and shared with others for years to come. Knowing the history of our 1842 home and understanding how families lived while building their main family home such as ours, we decided to share and offer an experience to others. For over a year, we scoured, gathered and tore down a building here and there to locate salvaged materials, re-purposed items, and gently used pieces and parts from various locations throughout our 4 county area. After we felt we had enough materials gathered, the challenging process of building began. After 1.5 years of hard work, not to mention the creative thinking that had to go into the building process to make all the parts and pieces fit and come together, Dancing Fox was born and we absolutely love it! To us, it's a treasure trove of local history, stories and ourselves. We promise, you will remember Dancing Fox Cabin too.

What makes this cabin unique

One-of-kind cabin in Ohio and rated in the top 10 in the United States for being highly re-purposed and being a usable accommodation with all the creature comforts.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Janell and Paul,

I want to thank you for your hospitality this past weekend. We really loved the cabin and all the history behind it! I wish we were able to spend more time enjoying the cabin and the beautiful surroundings. I will definitely love to make it back some time. We also took your suggestion and ate dinner at your local golf course. We loved the food and the atmosphere. The boys liked it so much that they wanted to go back Sunday to eat there again :D

I hope you guys have an awesome season! May God continue to bless you!

A stay at Dancing Fox cabin is like a warm, tight embrace welcoming you home. There is a spirit of joy, warmth, and serenity which surrounds you, and a permeating comfort that fills you. We found the local business owners of Bellevue to be gregarious and welcoming as well. We WILL be back, AND shouting from the mountain top for everyone to chose this VRBO !

My best friend and I needed a girls' weekend and found this cabin online. We fell in love with the pictures and when we stepped into the cabin, the feeling was solidified. Adorable cabin with perfect little touches everywhere you look. Cozy and comfortable. We had everything we needed and felt totally recharged when we left. Already planning our next visit!

Cute and Impressive Semi-Private Getaway

  • 4 of 5

My partner and I thought this was a super cute cabin. We loved the fact that it was built from 95% reclaimed materials! There was just enough stuff to cook and clean, the beds were actually pretty comfortable, and the set up was well planned out. We didn't realize just how close it was to the house that the owners live in, which threw us off. We felt like we were staying in someone's guest house because of how close it was. They were perfectly nice, though. Paul met us about 10 minutes after we arrived and gave us a run down of some of the little things of the cabin that needed explaining, along with with some interesting history about the property. We didn't see them the rest of the visit, but we did see a couple other people that were staying in their second floor guest house (attached to the main house). The garden was thoroughly enjoyed since we were welcome to harvest anything we wanted from there and we enjoyed a late night dip in the hot tub as well! Overall, we liked this place and it was very well planned and maintained, but it's not really our scene. NOW... that doesn't mean that we haven't already talked it up to our friends and family that would absolutely love the place! I'm guessing there will be a handful of people in the next year that will be renting the cabin because of us.

Owner's Response: Hi Angela and thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Dancing Fox while you and your partner were here attending a wedding. In regards to the cabin location. We always try to inform people where the cabin is positioned from the main house and why we built it 175 feet away, and that is to replicate a settlers cabin for the family to live in while they built their main brick family home, such as they did here in 1842. Upon booking you said you wanted to stay somewhere with "character" rather then a Hotel/Motel and that is what Dancing Fox has, total character combining yesterdays past with today's modern conveniences. The pines and trees separating the cabin from the house offer privacy, but it sounds as though you had your hopes set for an accommodation where you were away from civilization. However we are glad you used the hot tub and garden during your stay and thank you for spreading the word to your friends about us too, we sincerely appreciate it. We would have loved a 5 star rating in your review, but we understand your thoughts of desiring seclusion. Janell and Paul

My son and I stayed at Dancing Fox due to its proximity to White Star Quarry as we were both doing SCUBA certification classes. The hosts were incredibly gracious and friendly, and the cabin had everything we needed and more. We would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Hi Sara and Family! Thank you for your review and also for staying at Dancing Fox cabin. We learn things every day from our guests and when you were making your reservations, I didn't realize White Star Quarry had Scuba lessons. How wonderful that you and your son were able to come and achieve your diving goals so you can travel the world with your hubby and all dive together. We are delighted you loved the cabin with it's cozy nature and also used the hot tub to warm up in after a long day of diving in cold water. Please know you are welcome back any time. Have a great time with your family diving adventures, stay safe and take care of yourselves. All The Best! Janell and Paul

The perfect weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time during our wedding anniversary getaway! Even though the cabin is located on Paul and Janell's property, you still feel like you're in your own little space. They are incredibly accommodating, and even surprised us with an anniversary cake....and it was delicious! The amenities are more than you could ask for during a weekend getaway--hot tub, fire pit, garden, stocked kitchen with necessities and basic spices, etc. We didn't have to worry about a thing with grocery stores and markets all around. We visited for the purpose of hiking and kayaking in Sandusky (20 minutes away) and Vermilion (45 minutes away) and we felt perfectly safe leaving our kayaks and gear on the property if we weren't using them. The cabin is GORGEOUS and perfectly decorated for a cozy, comfortable stay. We absolutely loved it and will be back without a doubt. Thank you Paul and Janell!

Owner's Response: Hi! First let us say "thank you" Julia for taking time to write us and to let us know how much you two enjoyed your anniversary getaway. There are so many things to do in all directions of us and it was a special time for you two, to enjoy your together time and have fun kayaking, hiking and seeing the sites. I told Amy, owner of Copper Top Bakery how much you loved your anniversary cake too *smiles* We are thrilled you loved Dancing Fox and felt the coziness it allows our guests to enjoy while staying here, mixing the past with a few modern amenities. Just know that you are always welcome to return any time. All The Best! Paul and Janell Janell and Paul

Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

A very peaceful and relaxing setting. The cabin was very accommodating and interesting. Paul and Janelle were very friendly and generous! My favorite part about the cabin is all the repurposed furniture and decorations. If I could make one improvement it would be to add a full length mirror. The bathroom mirror is small and hard to get really close to. We loved staying here and will be back again! We will certainly be recommending it to our friends me family!

Owner's Response: Hi Shantelle and Mike, Thank you for the your lovely comments about Dancing Fox and how much you enjoyed your stay. I agree Shantelle, the full length mirror would be a feature to think about. I did purchase a nice make-up mirror, so next time, you will have a close up view whether it's applying make-up or shaving. Thank you for the suggestion and we hope to see you in 2017. All The Best! Another example is the bathroom vanity base cabinet we handmade from early 1900’s Wormy Chestnut and features a porcelain counter top surface once from an old Hoosier cupboard along with a re-purposed sink. The shower stall walls are sheathed with large antique slate chalkboards formerly used to teach children in a local 1892 school house. On the wall above the commode you will find an antique handmade wall cupboard filled with soft plush towels and you'll see a vintage wood farm ladder is used as a towel bar. An abundance of clothing hook adorn the walls and door’s interior. *And for your convenience, there is a working commode and plenty of hot and cold running water! *smiles...just having fun with ya* All the amenities are modern and you will enjoy plenty of hot water too!
  • 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 4
  • Bedroom 1 - 2 bunk bed , Comfortable Queen Log Bunk Beds
  • There is no walled off private bedroom in Dancing Fox's re-purposed interior layout, however the open concept lends a feeling of airiness and is historically proper for simple cabin construction designs during early settlement days. The log framed queen size bunk bed is the dominant focal point of the cabin’s bedroom area. At one side of the bed is a handmade wardrobe clad with antique barn siding. This wardrobe features plentiful wall hooks, shelving with baskets for clothing and a single clothing rod is available for hanging clothes and storage. Resting at the foot of the log bed is a vintage cedar trunk for additional storage and an original primitive dry sink cupboard with shelves as well. From this open and undefined bedroom area you be able to freely converse with others in the cabin, watch the flat screen TV or fireplace and peer outside from the many windows scattered throughout the cabin.
