We are Kerry and Carole Price and have been hosting out of town guests in Austin for over three years. Plum Cottage is our newest furnished rental home.
We have been married for over 28 years and have raised both of our children within a mile of this home and still live in the neighborhood. Kerry still has a day job in the packaging business and loves wooden boats. Carole manages the vacation rental properties and is a community volunteer with Hospice Austin.
We both found our way to Austin: Kerry from Minnesota and Carole from Glasgow Scotland. We met in South Austin in the mid 80's and have never left.
Carole and Kerry Price purchased this house in 1998
We bought this property several years ago and kept it as a long term rental property until converting it into a Short Term Furnished Vacation Rental opening in February of 2013. To make this conversion we have remolded starting at the wall studs and added a room to make a virtually new home.
The original home was built around 1950 and still has much of its old classic charm including the cut glass door handles and solid wood interior paneled doors and baseboards.
Location, location, location. This section of Austin is one of the most sought after areas for people coming to Austin to live or play. Conveniently located near to most of Austin's major - and some off beat- attractions. Here you will find real Austinites both young and old.
I have rented Plum Cottage a number of times now from Carole and Kerry. The place is perfect little cottage (bedroom, bathroom , kitchen, and living room) that is well appointed and close to downtown and Zilker Park. Carole and Kerry have a wonderful decorating eye, and have thought of everything you might need for your stay (dishes, kitchen towels, glasses, even shopping bags). The house is wonderful, and Carole is very attentive; she always wants to be sure things are going well for you and that all's well with the house. It's why I've come back to this place so many times. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed my trip to Austin for Spring Break! This place is in the perfect location and is so nice for couples traveling with pets. Will definitely come back here!
Plum Cottage in Austin is ideally situated in a quiet neighborhood with quick access to all directions. It is clean, well-equipped and updated. We loved our stay and although it was just my sister and me, the wrap-around sofa was comfortable enough that 2 more guests could sleep there. The front porch is inviting and the backyard with deck was lovely if the weather would have been warmer and dryer. Easy check-in and check-out. The owners have left a lot of info on the area ... restaurants, shopping, sight-seeing. We will definitely seek out Plum Cottage first on our future Austin visits.
Nice one bedroom cottage very close to downtown. Backyard was fully fenced and very nice for our pets. House fully updated with nice high end touches. In a very lovely, and somewhat somewhat hilly neighborhood. I assume Austin has a light ordinance, because it was VERY dark at the top of the hill. bring a flashlight, or two. Very near Zilker park and Barton Springs. Quite a few restaurant, coffee shop, bar and food truck options within walking distance.
It's one block from S Lamar which is a major street and busy. So Pro Tip: Use the stoplight at Bluebonnet in the morning when it's very busy for rush hour, if you are going downtown. There is a HEB on Oltorf a few minutes away, or take Lamar south and a couple of miles away (at 290) is a big strip mall with a Sprouts in it.
If you've ever spent time in Austin you may know, South of the river is where it's at. And Plum Cottage is right where you want to be. Very comfy, inside and out. Carole, our host, couldn't have been more helpful and hospitable. Even Gabbi, our little Chi-weenie, said she wants to go back. I would recommend Plum Cottage or any of Carole's other properties in Austin anytime.
We stayed at The Plum Cottage for our Thanksgiving family get together. One of the best VRBO's we have stayed at. Our host we're very accommodating with schedule and needs. Comfortable bed, quiet neighborhood, lots of restaurants and amminieties nearby. I am looking forward to visiting again.
Plum Cottage could not have been any more perfect for my husband and I, during our recent 4-day stay in Austin while attending a Conference at UT. Clean, comfortable, very well appointed! Bed was super comfy, and our pups loved the fenced yard. Lot's of great restaurants nearby! Thank you for the hospitality, we will definitely stay again, should we be back Austin way!
Plum Cottage is located in a quiet residential neighborhood just a short walk or drive away to South Austin's vibrant newest restaurants, bars and shops. Famous Maria's Taco Express is just a block away for Live Sunday Gospel music and killer breakfast tacos or just down the street you can wander in to Gourdough's Public House Pub with their unique savory doughnut sandwiches. Up the road just a short jaunt you can mosey in to the world famous Broken Spoke honky tonk for some real live Texas swing music and dance the night away on their sawdust sprinkled dance floor. Bring your boots and cowboy hat! Amy's Ice Cream, Phil's Ice House, Kerbey Lane Cafe and much much more are all less than 1/2 mile away from your home away from home.
Other attractions: Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Hike and Bike Trail, South Congress Shopping district and Downtown Austin are all within a 5-10 minute drive away.
