The house is oceanfront sitting on one of the most picturesque beaches along the North Shore--Ke Iki Beach. The upstairs of the house features 2 bedrooms (one oceanfront bedroom with a queen bed, and one mountain facing bedroom with two single beds). Downstairs, there is also a large, separate, oceanfront studio with a queen-sized bed, a sitting area, kitchenette and full bathroom. The yard is large with a grassy lawn and tropical plant garden. Guests may walk right out the door, across the grass yard and onto the secluded beach. To provide privacy, the house is separated by some low vegetation at the yard's edge and a private path onto the beach sand. The house also has a fenced yard and gate for safety and added privacy.
We live in Raleigh, NC but all of our extended family live on the North Shore so we regularly spend holidays and summer vacations there. Knowing the beauty of this beach, and the restorative affect of this location, we wanted to be able to share it with others.
Gretchen purchased this house in 2012
Our family lives right next door to this house so we are quite familiar with this secluded beach, the wide span of sand here, the gorgeous views from this property and the beauty of the area. When the house came on the market this recent summer, we knew that we wanted to have a place to call our own for the future.
The beach at this location is unique because, typically, only residents of Ke Iki Road use this beach. To be able to vacation on such a lovely spot with so few beach-goers is unique and rather restorative.
This was a great house for two couples, with the downstairs studio offering privacy for one couple. The home easily would sleep six. We had a great view from the lanai and an easy few steps to the sand of Keiki Beach. Sunsets from the lanai were fantastic. Nice location on the foot/bike path, one mile from Waimea Bay in one direction and a mile from the Banzai Pipeline in the other. Walked or ran to both everyday. The first few days the ocean was fairly calm for the N. Shore in January, then it kicked up really good. The ocean was quite loud when the big waves hit, but our group of four slept well under that. Others might be sensitive to the loud ocean but we really enjoyed it. It was also a thrill to watch the world class surfers and body boarders along the walk to the Pipeline. Overall, this home was a great choice and the owner was very nice to work with. We plan to go back again in the future.
We enjoyed our stay at Gretchen´s house very much.
Although the booking process was kind of complicated, she still stayed calm and managed our stay perfectly.
The spot is priceless and the area a perfect place for beach life, hiking and quality family time
Thanks for sharing paradise with us Gretchen

This was our first time staying on the North Shore and this home was perfect for our family of four. It is steps away to the beach and beautiful sunsets from the yard and patio. The views are gorgeous and lawn chairs in the yard are great for relaxing and reading a book. It is quiet and North Shore food carts and Foodland grocery are a short bike or walk away. There are bikes and boogie boards to use almost everything for a day at the ocean. The waves were huge this November and amazing to watch and listen to and snorkeling at Shark's cove is right down the road as well. A great vacation home and location for a North Shore stay.
We could not have asked for a better location. We love the North Shore and were thrilled with such a well kept home and property. We were 2 adults with 2 teenagers and found this home to be the perfect fit for us. The beach is only a few steps away but there is plenty of privacy, too. We highly recommend this property to anyone with an appreciation for the beauty the North Shore has to offer.
We've been to Oahu several times and staying at Gretchen's home has been the hands down best! Private, secluded, and on a exclusive expanse of beach with direct access. We enjoyed warm mornings on the lanai and sunsets in the garden/lawn or on the beach as the waves crashed. The waves were big (mid-Oct) but even with a 5 and 6 year old, the tide pools and shore run off were a playground for hours. The house is beautifully located and with all needed amenities, plus extras like snorkel gear, boogie boards, bikes, bamboo mats, etc. We had a scheduling conflict that Gretchen was absolutely amazing at accommodating without question. I hope the 'Rest and Restore' continues to be a VRBO staple in our vacationing years to come.
We arrived at the tail end of a storm in early August, so it was raining and windy and there was surf. The storm passed through in the next couple of days and the weather settled in to rain at night and mostly sunny and hot days. It did get hotter after the cool from the storm, be careful what you wish for!
The house was ready at 3pm, we had arrived early so went to the market, Foodland, and stocked up the supplies we would need for our group.
The house was really clean and the previous guests had just left, so that's a great tribute to the housekeepers.
The view and location are unmatched. The kids never got out of the ocean. The beach was mostly empty even on the weekend. The house is on the main and busy road, which has traffic even at night, but the master bedroom is on the ocean side and we were lulled by the sound of the waves. The boys (13 yrs old) were passed out in the bedroom closest to the road, we never had any complaints. My other guests slept in the apartment on the ground floor, which also faces the ocean. The two standing fas provided enough air, so they were comfortable. The house upstairs has ceiling fans, and we needed to keep them running at all times when we were in the house.
The outdoor shower was a huge plus, especially with for the kids. The surf was just rough enough to provide a lot of sand in the bathing suits, so showering inside was not possible as I didn't want to spend my vacation cleaning the tub.
The house is very simple, the neighborhood felt very safe. There was a locked automatic door for the car and also for the pedestrian gate. We lived outside on the lanai, unless I was in the kitchen cooking. The gas stove was a welcome sight, I love to cook and hate the electric stoves. I brought my own knives, but I always do.
We live in NYC, so I don't think we'll be back, it's a LONG trip. I need to see some old friends who live in Hawaii, and now that's done.
We loved the food trucks at Shark's Cove. And my son took a surfing lesson from the dive shop, those guys are the real deal. I highly recommend them.
The North Shore offers numerous activities. You can be as active or relaxed as you want here. Surfing, swimming, snorkeling, are all readily available and boat rentals, jet ski rentals, sunset sail cruises, massage therapists, spa offerings and more are all locally available.
