About Valerie Austin

Our family lives in Dallas and enjoy relaxing weekend getaways. We love getting in a quick hike, enjoying the wonderful forest views, eating out at local restaurants if we don't feel like firing up the grill. It's family time in the great outdoors.

Valerie Austin purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Valerie Austin chose Oklahoma

We appreciate the easy access of Beaver's Bend and the beauty of the area. After vacationing there several years ago, we decided it was a great location for us. We throw a cooler in the car, take the dog and Grandma up for the weekend and feel like we have really gotten away. Hiking, driving and exploring the dam and river, sitting outside and just looking at the stars helps us recharge.

Bad timing, some small issues

  • 3 of 5

Rating is minus one star for bad timing in weather and one star for some amenities. 4 fly fishing friends met for 2.5 days of Lower Mountain Fork angling fun. The good - clean, well kept, pretty well stocked, large space, owner responded to emails, and mostly accurate VRBO description. The not-so-good - remote control batteries were dead, resulting in a trip back to town to purchase some. Wood for fireplace was waterlogged and would not burn. VRBO site said 'Weber Gas Grill', but due to regulations, one was not present (Valerie did notify us of this). The weather was pretty awful both nights, so we never got to venture into the backyard or even utilize the space. Weather also made it hard to find cabin at night, in the fog, and directions were not 100% accurate. I actually tried to open the wrong cabin my first visit.

Bottom line - it was adequate, but I have stayed in far better with more amenities for the price. But please do keep in mind that the weather had plenty to do with my rating. We were only able to (somewhat) enjoy about 20% of the possible things to do.

The fishing was good, the weather was crappy, and the comraderie was fun.

Beautiful, clean, cozy

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself, and our four children absolutely loved this place! I couldn't have asked for a better experience and we are already planning our next trip here. My ONLY complaint, and it isn't a huge issue, is that the master bed is very hard.

Wonderful Cabin Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this cabin! It was our first trip to the area and it won't be our last. The cabin provided great space and all that we needed. The description was as advertised so the owners are truthful and honest. We were lucky enough to bring our dog with us to experience the beautiful area and we appreciate how dog friendly the owner and cabin are! We definitely plan to come back and stay here again :)

Wonderful getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time at this cabin. It was close to the marina and other areas of the park. Cabin was clean, well furnished and was in a nice setting. We have talked about a fall getaway to experience the fall colors.
