Santa Chiara is the name of an old 17th century convent recently completely restored. It is a unique holiday destination- a small hilltop country estate located at the gates of Siena. Only fifteen minutes walk from the Campo, the shell-shaped mediaeval square at the heart of the city in which the Palio is run twice a year.
It is a big building with three apartments other than the owner's home. The welcoming accommodation is set in five hectares of beautiful garden offering stunning views of both the medieval city and the surrounding countryside. Guests can walk the estate and relax in the shade of its many trees, swim in the large outdoor pool, enjoy a game of tennis on the private court, and dine al fresco against the backdrop of the beautiful tuscan landscape.
Early in the morning, it is not unusual to run into pheasants, hares and deer. In your wandering, make sure not to miss a gigantic holm oak whose branches almost touch the ground, thus creating a large natural dome. Further down the road, you can cross a little bridge and get to a wide public area where you can find exercise equipment as well as a playground for children.
Olive trees are a feature the grounds, and this theme also run through the properties with furnishing as of olive wood, bathroom products made from olive extract and the estate’s olive oil available to purchase for the dinner table.

We stayed nine days in July in this house. It is very nice and comfortable. Walking distance to Siena, and at the same time very calm (apart maybe from some barking dogs in the distance some time). Claudia is a great host. We enjoyed her guided tour (which is included in the "package") of Siena. When things got a bit to hot, the kids (and the parents) were enjoying the pool. We were able to do some star gazing in the evening as well.
All in all, a highly recommended place to stay, to enjoy beautiful Siena and the surrounding area.
Great property, just 15 mins walks to Siena downtown. I spent a week in apartment 3 with my wife and a 14 months baby. This place has a beautiful yard and swimming pool and it is perfect for families. The owner Claudia is a professional historical guide that will help you discover Siena and surroundings.
Thank you very much Claudia for this perfect vacation, we will come back soon!
This estate is the perfect getaway! It feels like a country retreat but is only a few minutes walk to the beautiful campo. The apartments are very well appointed and spotlessly clean. The owner is lovely and make sure you arrange to bring home some of her home-pressed olive oil- it is amazing! Siena is a like a wonderful dream and staying here makes it a dream come true.
This place was even better than what I was hoping for. It's right on the edge of town and an easy walk into Siena. The property was more beautiful than I imagined it would be. The apartment itself was spacious enough for the 5 of us, with one sleeping on a bed in the living room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were really nice. The living room could have been a bit more comfortable but who wants to be inside anyway. The kitchen was adequate and the dining room nice. The only downside, I found, was that the people before us left absolutely nothing in the kitchen so we had to buy all the small things like sugar and salt in order to cook at home, which of course we couldn't finish.
Nice place to stay. Beautiful landscape, peaceful place and garden, very close to Siena piazza del campo. Nice pool, not used because we didn't have time. We spent 3 nights in the apartment 6. It was all clean and cozy. They provided us bread, salami and wine as a welcome gift. All kitchen equipments that we neede was available. Good shower and nice bed to sleep. I recommend it.
This Villa is perfectly place outside the wall of Siena. Just a quick walk to all the historic beautiful buildings, restaurants and all the sites. The hosts Claudia and Anna are there to recommend and accommodate all your needs for a pleasant holiday. One evening they arranged for us to have two chefs, who came to our villa/apartment. These chefs were so much fun, they gave us a fabulous hands on cooking class. We made pasta and other dishes from scratch. So delicious and one of our highlights of our stay.
The grounds are beautiful, comfortable, a safe and secure gated property. It also is very centrally located to explore the Tuscany region. I highly recommend this villa, you will complete your vacation with great accommodations and true Italian flare.
Santa Chiara is a uniquely located country estate on a hillside just outside the walls of Siena, with views towards the city on one side and over the Tuscan countryside on the other. It is about 15 minutes walk from the Campo, the shell-shaped mediaeval square at the heart of the city in which the Palio is run twice a year. With a large swimming pool in beautiful surroundings, the property offers relaxation as well as an ideal base for exploring the city. Situated as it is in the centre of Tuscany, many other beautiful and historic places are also accessible by car. Florence and San Gimignano are both within an hour’s drive. Arezzo and Lake Trasimeno are not much farther. The hill towns of ‘the Chianti’ as well as Montepulciano and Pienza are easily accessible. For the more adventurous, Assisi and Perugia are farther afield (100 km or so) but a good dual carriageway road makes them an easy day trip. Few other properties can offer the same combination of a relaxing poolside holiday
