LOCATION

The apartment is situated on the Prinseneiland. I will give you some information about our location in relation to the rest of the city.

First of all, our neighborhood is still part of the Centre of Amsterdam. It is a very quiet and safe 'little village' right next to the 'busy' part of the city. There are still a few little shipyards but most of the warehouses are converted into residences. The city is more or less built in circles around the centre. We are the western part of the centre, nearby Central Station. That is at this moment I think the most popular part.

Next to our apartment lies the famous Jordaan. The Jordaan is a small part of the city, famous for the narrow streets with little shops, cafes and restaurants. We are divided from the Jordaan by a very nice shopping street. In this street there are two normal supermarkets (open 8AM/10PM), bakeries, a butcher and two organic supermarkets. There are all kind of shops, cafés, nice little restaurants everywhere around us.

We think Amsterdam is more a “big village”. That is, the part where you want to be as a visitor. You can walk everything, but certainly on the bike everything is really nearby.

The address is Prinseneiland 10, Amsterdam if you want to look it up on Google Maps. The street view is still from the period we were building, a few years ago. But one of the pictures you can click shows the finished building.

Walking distance to the Central Station 15 minutes (bike 7 minutes), Jordaan 10 minutes (bike 5 minutes), Dam 17 minutes (bike 10 minutes), and Rijks Museum / Van Gogh / Stedelijk Museum (contamporary/modern art) 35 minutes (bike 20 minutes), Anne Frank Museum 10minutes (bike 5 minutes).

If you want to explore more of the city we have bikes for rent and there are trams and buses to all parts of the city at a 4-minute walk. Apart from the general maps that we provide, we also made a map of our neighbourhood. A selection of breakfast-/lunch-places/restaurants/supermarkets is pointed out on this map. We also have “around the corner” a few very nice and good restaurants. We are happy to advise you and/or make reservations for you.

About Wouter & Liesbeth Nieuwveld

Shipbuilder and Publisher started recently a vacation rental apartment in their beautifull newly rebuild wooden Harbor House.

Wouter & Liesbeth Nieuwveld purchased this apartment in 1973

Why Wouter & Liesbeth Nieuwveld chose Amsterdam

We practised our professions on this location already for more then 30 years. The kids moved out to lead their own lives. We rebuild the old buildings with a separate apartment with its own private entrance.

What makes this apartment unique

You are situated on one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam city centre, called 'The Western Islands'. It is a quiet little village, directly connected to the live and kicking part of town with its shops, cafe's, restaurants and cultural activities.

GREAT APARTMENT, GREAT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5

An ideal place to stay in Amsterdam. The owners Wouter and Liesbeth couldn't have been nicer. Wouter spent time explaining the apartment and giving us tips for Amsterdam. The bottles of wine and orange juice, plus the box of cookies, were an unexpected treat. We rented bikes for 3 days, but just used them one day, due to my concerns about my young son riding a bike in heavy traffic. Most attractions are within walking distance, though. Very quiet. Very comfortable beds. Plenty of dishes and pots and pans. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would definitely return.

Undiscovered Amsterdam Treasure

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful, energetic trip to Amsterdam in large part due to our hosts, Wouter and Liesbeth. They were accessible and informative. We appreciated their Airport transport, canal boat tour, and the quaint movie theater and restaurants they directed us to. Their apartment is modern Euro-style, quiet, clean, and very safe. After a day of buses, trams, museums, and gardens it was the perfect hide-away. We highly recommend this gem, and will be returning ourselves, God willing.

Tranquil Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Harbour House makes a wonderful base in Amsterdam. The apartment is stylish, well equipped, clean, comfortable, light and airy with big windows that slide open and delightful canal views. The hosts Wouter and Liesbeth are friendly and thoughtful and the locality has a picturesque and tranquil village atmosphere. For us it made a perfect retreat from crowded streets of the tourist areas especially in the middle of a record breaking heat-wave. There are trams and buses nearby, but if you are up for it a bike rented from the owners is the best possible transport. There are some nice places to eat and drink nearby and lots more in the adjacent charming Jordaan neighbourhood. The airport pick-up and drop off service offered by Wouter helped make our journey and arrival at Harbour House stress free.

“Comfort, tranquility, location, service, convenience and great people...all here!”

  • 5 of 5

Three amazing days in Amsterdam and Wouter & Liesbeth made it possible with their exceptional Wooden Harbor Apartment.

Don't let the location fool you. Prinsenisland is a quiet and peaceful community of artists offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of the big city....yet it's only a ten minute stroll into the action.

The apartment is extremely comfortable, spacious and clean with all the amenities that you would want in an apartment rental. The views over the canal from the walls of windows brings the unique city into your living room while still offering a private space and feel.

This place felt like a home away from home and the owners have gone out of their way to ensure you have everything you need; from a fully equipped kitchen, spacious bedroom with walk-in closet and excellent bath to private parking (if needed), a cell phone for emergencies and taxi, bicycles, museum passes (which cut our wait from 1 hour to 1 minute), umbrellas and a welcome bottle of chardonnay.

Be sure to book a private boat trip through the canals on Wouters boat. We loved the experience sipping coffee and experiencing Amsterdam from this unique perspective.

Of all my stays in Amsterdam, this was by far the best!

Thank you Wouter & Liesbeth for your hospitality and excellent service!

Sensational!

  • 5 of 5

We had the great pleasure of staying in The Wharfhouse. The accommodation is much lovelier than the photos. The apartment is light and airy, well appointed and pristine. On our arrival there were fresh flowers, a range of beverages including wine (!), Dutch biscuits and breakfast spreads.

The apartment is in a village type setting just 10 minutes walk from Central Station. The managers, Wouter and Liesbeth are just wonderful! Some great local finds are 'Worst' and 'Couscousine' restaurants and the Sunday market at Westerpark.
