We are located only 1 mile off the beaten path, but it seems like a million miles from nowhere. All you see is trees and birds during the day and at night you can listen to the coyotes. Your rental has two bedrooms (mix and match between singles, a queen or a king), two baths, living room, full kitchen, patio with grill, sauna, hot tub, shooting range. Whatever you want to do on 88 acres we will try to make it happen.
I am a retired Air Force and Airline pilot, My wife worked for Crown Zellerback in Las Vegas and now owns a local hair salon. Since I've retired I hate to leave this property except to buy materials for the ongoing projects. Our little Blue Heeler (Matilda) and her friend (Tigo, a neighbor's dog) watch after me every minute of the day.
My wife, carolyn and I are both from Parkersburg, WV. and we visit family there often.
Dave or Carolyn McCuskey, owners purchased this house in 1999
My wife and I lived in Las Vegas, NV. for many years while in the Air Force and airline business. We wanted to get away from the traffic and other bustle so we looked for solitude and reasonable weather and Dove Creek found us. We have beautiful summers, mild winters, bright starry nights, no neighbors in sight, hardly a cloud in the sky, unlimited visibly and more days of sunshine than southern California. As a lifestyle, the remoteness is not for everyone, but for a vacation or a couple-of-days getaway is for everyone.
We purchased this land for the beautiful views and the character of the property. We have a barn with stalls, a corral, and 20 acres of grazing; just in case you want bring horses. We have built up the property to our liking and it is complete, but still a work in progress. If you own a house you know what I mean. This property is us, we love it and we want you to visit. We are sure you will see it just as we see it.
Thank you for sharing your guest house with us. The peace and quiet is just want we needed.
If you are looking for a base to explore the four corners area, look no more! Within easy driving distance of Mesa Verde, the beautiful Arches National Park, Hovenweep national monument, and other national parks and monuments in Utah. There are trout and warm water lakes nearby if fishing is your thing. There is also a shooting range on the property. But the thing that would make your stay a pleasure are the owners, Dave and Carolyn, who make you feel like family. Finally, The price is an absolute bargain for what you receive at Monument Canyon Ranch.
Everything about Monument Canyon Ranch was fabulous--the comfort and spaciousness of the accommodations, the exceptionally well-equipped kitchen, the cozy fireplace, the workout room, sauna, and hot tub! We even roasted marshmallows and made s'mores in the lovely fire pit. And to top it all off, there was a sublime peace and quiet, wonderful views, and an infinite number of stars in the country sky.
As owners of a VRBO property ourselves, we aspire to be the perfect hosts that Dave and Carolyn were--extraordinarily gracious and helpful, always available, but very sensitive about not being intrusive. How do they do it!
We can't imagine a more perfect place to stay in the entire Four Corners area; we can't recommend it too highly.
My husband and I were looking for a location in the southwest part of Colorado for our honeymoon, this was the most reasonable BEST choice I ever found. Dave and Carolyn were so sweet and helpful. To my horror, I realized that there were no queen or double bed when we arrived, which the pictures on the internet clearly show twins, this was my error. Dave and Carolyn went straight to work and made our sleeping arrangements better (pushing to twins together), which worked perfectly. They were available if needed but left us two alone to enjoy ourselves. We went to Moab, Mesa Verde or just sat around the hot tub at night. My husband wants to go back there for hunting because it is in an ideal location and I secretly think he would love to finish that fire pit for Dave. lol :) Book this property it is worth it!
My family and I stayed at Monunent Canyon Ranch recently and had wonderful 6 day vacation! The property lives up to the description (I think the pictures do not do justice to how nice it really is). My husband enjoyed the workout room and hot tub... we all enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen for breakfast and dinner after long days of sight seeing in the area. The owners, Dave and Carolyn, answered all of our questions before we came and while we were there -they are wonderful! We picked this vaction home because it is close to so many sights in southeast UT and southwest CO that we wanted to see. We visited 3 National Parks (Mesa Verde, Archs and Canyonland); 2 National Monuments (Hovenweep and the 4 Corners) and numerous state parks and local sites in our 6 day vacation. The home has a couple of nice nearby diners and 24 hour groceries. BONUS: the groceries here were less expensive than nearby larger cities. The scenery was breathtaking both at the ranch and nearby with gorgeous blue skies against the red rock formations; surprising canyons with Indian ruins off of dirt roads (very close to the home) and starry night skies. If we are back in this area we would stay again not only for the hospitality of Dave and Carolyn and the wonderful lodging, but also because there is so much to do within 1-2 hours of the property.
My husband and I stayed at the Monument Canyon Ranch several days recently, and I promise you we will go back!! The "Ranch" was our base of operations for numerous family excursions (jeep trips, 4th of July festivities in nearby Dove Creek and sojourns to national parks, forests and monuments). If you are a hunter looking for a base camp, I can't imagine a more pleasant venue to spend the dark hours. The great room is large enough for several adults to relax and not be on top of each other, and the sleeping accommodations are quite comfortable as well. The kitchen is well equipped with everything one might need to prepare a hearty meal. There is an exercise room for anyone who does not get enough of a workout of the area. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub in the evening hours as the temperature dropped in typical high desert fashion (the quiet surroundings with a view of the starry night sky is something everyone should experience before they die). In short, Monument Canyon Ranch is an ideal place to hang your hat while visiting southwestern Colorado or southeast Utah!
Dave & Carolyn, Thanks so much for the opportunity to experience your remarkable lodging facilities. Each individual in our group has has considerable exposure to rental accommodations and we are all in agreement that nothing has been found to what you folks offer at Monument Canyon Ranch. To top it off, the care and concern that you had for our welfare was beyond expectations. Monument Canyon will be our top priority for next year. Ed and The Boys from Illinois
Pueblo Indian ruins, hiking, fishing, hunting, sightseeing. The Four Corners Mesa Verde Pueblo Indian ruins and other smaller ones are the only place in the world where these ruins exist. Within a few miles we have The Anasazi Heritage Center, the Hovenweep Ruins, the Lowry Ruins and one ruins that is on public land but not shown on maps. We are centrally located to many other southwest attractions such as Monument Valley, Durango, Silverton, Telluride, Uray, Moab, Arches, Canyonlands and several national parks which are within a two to four hour drive. A very short drive by Southwest Colorado standards.
