Chuck's family has owned the farm property for nearly 100 years. We built our home around an existing home in 2005 to raise our growing family -- three girls including a set of twins. We built the barn and riding facilities in 2007 to run a riding program for children and adults. Today, we are living in Middlebury, VT where Jane has a full time job running an education technology company.
Chuck Hunt purchased this farmhouse in 1997
With plenty of room for family, close to wonderful cultural, sports and outdoor attractions with many choices for dining out, our property is the perfect site to relax year round. Whether visiting Williams College for a prospective student or as an alum, many people make Williamstown an annual destination.
We have an above ground outdoor pool with a large deck with breathtaking views, a large great room with a pool table, a functional kitchen with a SubZero refrigerator, dishwasher. Our country dining room has a large table with access through french doors to a wrap around deck. The great room has a working fireplace. Our rural setting allows you to watch the neighbor's cows graze, have a game of wiffleball or frisbee and we have an awesome hill for sledding in the winter. Every room in our home is light-filled and the many windows offer wonderful views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
Our stay here could not have been any better! We gathered together for a 40th anniversary celebration for my parents over New Year’s weekend and it was a lovely experience. With 8 adults and 8 children under 7y.o, this house magically met all of our needs. The open feeling of the house allowed for the kids to play, the adults to hang out and all of us to just be together without being on top of one another! There was plenty of space for everyone to sleep comfortably which was a gift with this many young children. The in-law suite downstairs was a big bonus with more sleeping spaces and the pool table. With most of the bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms on one main level, the house was also very accessible for my father who has mobility issues. The kitchen was in good condition and allowed for cooking for a big crowd. The dining room table would not have accommodated all of us but we did a kid’s early dinner and a grown up dinner each night so it worked well for us.
The house was clean with plenty of fresh linens and towels when we arrived. The directions and information provided by the owners were very helpful. The house is in a great location and the hills out front allowed for a great sledding area for our crew. The cows were also a big hit!
The only suggestion I would have for travelers with small children (crawlers or new walkers) would be to bring a couple of gates for the stairs. This will allow everyone to roam more freely!
We would recommend this house to friends and family without hesitation and will certainly keep it in mind for future family gatherings!
Comfortable and cozy while roomy. Made for a great home base as we visited family for the holidays. 19 people and 3 dogs for thanksgiving pies and we still had room to move around.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse. It was so peaceful and we saw deer on the front lawn! All the instructions were clear and the hosts were very gracious. The farmhouse easily can accommodate a large extended family. The views from the living room and main bedrooms are stunning. Lovely fall foliage during our visit.
My family enjoyed our stay at Cobble Hill Farm in August. The large house enabled us to host guests comfortably, and the expansive, well-kept property provided a beautiful setting for relaxing on the end-of-summer days. There are mountain views from both the front and back of the house, and many stars are visible at night. We also enjoyed the location, which is near the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Clark Art Institute, and hiking. There is a well-stocked Stop & Shop a few miles away in North Adams.
The master bedroom on the main floor has a roomy en suite bathroom. If you are traveling with a large family, there are plenty of other beds on the main floor, as well as another full bathroom. There is also a separate living area in the lower level, with its own kitchen and full bathroom, which can be convenient for guests. The lower level also features a pool table, which is good for rainy days.
It’s a little bit hard to find the property from the road – which gives you an idea of how large it is and how far the house is set back – and Waze was not much help for the final stage of the ride. I recommend that you ask the owners for a photo of the entrance before visiting.
One caveat: If you are booking the house for a summer visit, make sure that the heater in the swimming pool is working. It wasn’t working this past summer, which limited our usage of the pool. Because the pool is not covered by shade trees, however, it warmed up late in the afternoon on sunny days, and we were able to swim then.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property -- beautiful location and well-kept/clean home. There is plenty of space to spread out and lots of areas to gather together. It's only a quick ride to downtown Williamstown. The deck offers beautiful views and it really is just a wonderful retreat. Only note I'd make, which isn't all that important, is that the pool is an above-ground pool. We didn't take advantage of it, but only because we were relaxing on the deck or exploring downtown. Chuck and Jane were extremely responsive and communication was easy. I'd definitely recommend it!
We stayed at the Cobble Hill farm over Labor Day weekend and truly enjoyed it in every sense. We found the home spacious for six adults and four children. The bedrooms are all very nice and the master is quite ideal, with a wonderful view. Then again, the large bedroom downstairs, with its proximity to bath, sitting area, and second kitchen, is really like a master suite (though the bedroom lacked window curtain - a problem easily surmounted). The living room area upstairs is quite large and relaxing - a great spot for family board games. Our school aged children (and the grown-ups) loved the pool, which is a very nice above ground style with a deck that has a terrific view. The grounds gave us plenty of room for multiple lawn games and, for our two baseball players, dad used the expansive upper grazing land for hitting shags to the boys (the farm fence subbed well for the walls of Fenway). The Williamstown location made for easy access to the top of Mt. Greylock (via Notch Road in North Adams) and some of our party enjoyed a visit to The Clark Institute and its wonderful artwork. The kids also enjoyed part of a day at the nearby Jiminy Peak Mountain park (I made it down the mountain slide twice myself). We also enjoyed a round of golf at the delightful "A" in Pittsfield, a terrific, no-nonsense course that is great for the kids. With our intent of having a family get-together in a relaxing, beautiful setting, Cobble Hill farm more than met our expectations. We hope to be back! Oh, and on one starlit evening, we truly enjoyed the fire-pit area on the lower grounds. S'mores, the Milky Way, and pleasant conversations well into the evening.
A short drive to the campus of Williams College, easy access to Berkshire area museums (the Clark Art Institute, Mass Moca) and attractions (Hancock Shaker Village, Tanglewood, Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, Manchester (VT) Outlets).
