My wife and I have been married for 12 years now and have been enjoying trips down to Riveria Mayan (Cancun & Playa Del Carmen mostly) since 2001. We ended up staying at a Royal Resort (Royal Sands Resort in Cancun on our first trip **See VRBO Ad#444481 for more info on that resort**) and just fell in love with it. So since 2001 we have spend over 16 months at the Royal Resorts, of which 4 months we have stayed at the Royal Haciendas in Playa Del Carmen, and it truely is our home away from home. Since our first visit in 2001 we have had many changes in our family. First we decided that we always loved thinking about Cancun and the Royal Resorts so we invested in a few weeks there in Cancun 2004 and from there our ownership went from a couple weeks to over 80 weeks at the Royal Resorts. In additional to our weeks expanding so did our family, we now have two young kids one girl (who has spent over 10 months at the Royal Resorts) and a son (who has only spent about 5 months their). So you won't find anybody that owns more weeks or that has spent more time at the Royal Haciendas/Royal Resorts since the Royal Sands opened in 2000 (The Royal Haciendas opened in July 2006 and was completed in Dec 2008). We still continue to go down for a month or two a year but having moved from Alaska to Southern California a few years back we don't have the desire to leave Alaska in the winters like we used to. You are in great hands and the Royal Resorts are wonderful!
Bill Coghill purchased this villa in 2008
It is just such a great place as the owners tend to have many of the same qualifies which mainly includes being fun, happy, and ready to have a very good week, two, or more:) Being a fixed unit/fixed week resort they get a more educated owner than those at points or floating resorts. People buy because they love the Resort and management. The locatation of the Royal Haciendas is very nice as Cozomel sits directly east of it and thus blocks the big waves so that the water in front of the resort is relatively calm and thus is normally perfect for snorking from the beach, taking the dive boats out directly from the beach, as well as sea kayaks and hobie sail boats. The beach is flat and easy to walk on. The Royal Haciendas resort footprint is large so there are many area to go and get total isolate.
They don't charge for towels, daily maid service, snorkel equipment, golf clubs, tennis rackets, ect......basicly they treat you like you want to be treated at no cost, just think what you get if you tip well:)
This is the second time we stayed at the Haciendas. It is a great place to take kids because of the suites available which gives you an opportunity to put them to bed and still stay up and have a few drinks. One thing that is great about the all inclusive package is the room service. At any time you can call them up and in 35 minutes you'll have food at your door. You can read all the reviews on the place elsewhere, but I really just wanted to acknowledge the help we got from Bill to pull it all together. He did everything we needed to get done to stay at this resort when we thought it was all sold out. He was always available by email or phone I had concerns and addressed them within hours. Top notch service and I think anyone staying at the Haciendas should feel very comfortable using him to book their next vacation.
Our family (mom, dad, and two sons ages 20 & 17) opted this year for our mid-winter "get away from the cold" vacation to rent directly from owner Bill Coghill for a week at the Royal Haciendas. We stayed at the Royal Sands in 2014 and learned about the Haciendas while there, so this trip was 2 years in the making. Bill was great to deal with and worked his magic to get us into unit E335 (beachfront, phase 2). What a spot to be stationed from! Watching the sunrise from the balcony each morning was magical and being so close to the beach, pool and the Palapa del Sol was terrific. Unlike our stay at the Sands, we did not have to opt in for the all-inclusive option and by picking up food basics and alcohol at Walmart and the Haciendas shop we easily saved several hundred dollars. We were off resort more during this trip than our Sands vacation, so opting out of the all-inclusive just made sense. When we were on resort, we couldn't have been more pleased. The grounds are immaculate with the staff paying constant attention to the maintenance of the property and the beach. We encountered two minor issues with the room while there which were both responded to promptly and courteously. Room service was spot on with their estimates for arrival, all staff members were friendly and very well trained in delivering top notch customer service, and the team running the front entrance of the resort - managing taxi and shuttle arrivals and such - were the most helpful and responsive team I have ever encountered in my travels. And you can't go to a beachfront resort without recognizing the hard work of the team that serves up the food and drink beach and pool side. The Haciendas team is simply outstanding! As for the room, we had the full villa and had the best sleeps in a long time. It was so peaceful and quiet all night long - just what we needed. And the hot tub on the balcony was a hit with all of us, especially our sons. Taxis were plentiful for our visits to La Quinta but don't let that stop you from grabbing one of the property bikes and making your way along 5th Avenue from the resort to the ferry docks. Daily runs along 5th Avenue were awesome and strolling on the uncrowded beach with a beer in hand was rejuvenating. If you want crowds and noise, go to the south part of Playa. If you want beauty, peace, and the opportunity to recharge yourself, the Haciendas definitely fits the bill. Thanks Bill for setting us up in such luxury!
We have been owners (week 1) from the beginning (10 years) and rented week "0" from another owner this year. I cannot say enough about the Royal Haciendas. I have travelled the world and this resort has been and continues to be one of the nicest! The resort is maintained to the highest standards; room, grounds are impeccable! The staff are all warm and friendly ( grounds keepers , restaurant staff, the maids, the front desk, etc.). You will not regret staying here. Nearby Playa Del Carmen is growing all the time but has managed to stay friendly, safe and inviting. Lots of fun excursions near by . Renting through VRBO for the first time was a breeze!
We needed a very last minute place to stay near Cancun. Other owners wouldn't help but this one did. He managed to arrange everything in less than a week and patiently answered all of our questions. The result: a great vacation at a reasonable rate because we didn't have to go All-Inclusive. The villa was stylish but comfortable with lots of privacy. The beach is the nicest in the area because the hotel clears off the seaweed and the rocks. Playa del Carmen is a 15 ride on the hotel shuttle. We alternated eating at Los Murales or the poolside grills, eating in Playa del Carmen, getting room service or cooking in the full service kitchen. (I would not recommend the buffet.) You can stay on the resort and relax or you can go out and see the sights: there are lovely towns, ancient ruins, fabulous scuba/snorkeling and more. Finally, there is the hotel spa. I've been to quite a few - some were fancier but none had a better staff. We had wonderful services there and they made the vacation even more relaxing. If you want a quiet relaxing vacation, this is it.
Just an awesome family vacation! Really enjoyed not being on the all-inclusive meal plan. We saved so much more money by NOT doing that. A la carte meals and grocery items just charged to our room. Wonderful on site grocery that we used daily for fresh foods. My boys used the on site scuba dive shop - my son even got his open water certification. And we used the staff to take WONDERFUL family photos on the beach at sunset! Great pools. Took a day to go shopping at Playa del Carmen by using the shuttle. Had a spa day for me and my daughter courtesy of my husband. Owner was super easy to deal with and everything was set up without a hitch! Our only issue was the amount of seaweed on/in/around the beach but looks like that is hard to control. Just wonderful and would highly recommend to anyone!
The Royal Haciendas is located just 3 miles north of downtown Playa Del Carmen on the Beach/Ocean in a nice isolated area. The resort is surround by the Beach/Ocean on one side and mangroves/Nick Price Golf Course on the other!
