About Edward Cox
Hi, I'm Edward. Originally from sunny southport, I have spent a large part of my professional career in sunny brighton and the not so sunny, London. Work wise, I own a little record label called 'The Ethical Record Label' and a small music school in Surrey. When I'm not working I enjoy swimming, cycling, and exploring new cities. Anything adventurous floats my boat...oh yes, and boating!

A Quiet and Comfortable Home From Home
Situated in a small village just in the Dordogne region, this property is a very comfortable and well appointed holiday home. We had no trouble finding the place, which was a bit of a surprise as Bev (the caretaker) alluded to the fact that it was difficult via sat-nav and gave us some written directions which were spot-on. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Bev and her lovely spaniel, Nelly. Bev had contacted us a few days prior to our departure to enquire what we liked to drink so we expected a bottle, but we didn't expect a home made quiche, salad, pizzas, butter, milk, jams, bread and beer!
Although the location looks a little remote there are plenty of interesting places to visit within an hours drive, if the weather takes a turn for the worse or you don't fancy sitting and relaxing by the pool - we named all of the cows in the field next to us and greeted them each morning!
My husband and I like to run whilst on holiday and this area is a running heaven - rolling hills, not too steep, quiet roads and loads of woodland tracks to access. The area is also great for bikes - we saw Le Tour go through just outside Périgueux and said next time we visit we will bring the bikes.
The accommodation was clean and tidy and the kitchen worked very well, with plenty of cooking utensils, cutlery, pots and pans. We are a family of four with two teenage sons and there was ample space for relaxing and eating meals both indoors and out.
We can't speak highly enough of Bev, she really was a fantastic host and made our stay very pleasant indeed.
All in all a lovely little house in a lovely little village in a lovely area of a lovely country.
Barn at Champniers Reihac
Our family made up of two adults and two teenagers stayed in the barn at the beginning of August 2016. We were welcomed enthusiastically by Ed on arrival. He is a thoughtful host and was ready to offer tips about the area throughout the week.
There was plenty of room for us in the barn intended for 6 people. The two identical bedrooms upstairs each have twin beds, blinds on the velux windows to keep the atmosphere cool and wardrobes/drawers for storage. Down a level is the modern bathroom with washing machine and tumble dryer. (Washing tablets were thoughtfully provided, but a washing line outside/clothes airer/pegs would also be useful.) Downstairs is the master bedroom with comfortable king size bed. Drawers for storage again and the en suite has a decent shower. We slept really well and were not disturbed by the church bells! The open plan living area is substantial, with a huge dining table, sofas, English T.V and modern well-equipped kitchen area. Washing up liquid, bin bags, cling film etc. were all provided!
Outside there was also plenty of room. Next to the barn is a BBQ area and table and chairs. There is a grass area big enough for a game of football and more seating and sun loungers next to the pool which we had to ourselves!
The barn is situated in a quiet village which is great if you are after a peaceful retreat. 'Le Relais' is the only facility in the village. It is a bar/restaurant literally two minutes form the barn. We enjoyed pizzas there our first night. During our stay, we were also lucky enough to experience the 'village en fete'. Basically a get-together for all the locals in the market square.
Top recommendation for a nearby budget visit is the lake at St Estephe. The lake is good for swimmers of all ages with imported sand and we also went for a nice walk through the trees and used a foot ferry to get across the lake. There are plenty of snack bars/restaurants, picnic tables and loos! The best advantage of coming to this lake is that everything is free - from the parking to the canoes!
Brantome is a small, pretty town which is busy, but also worth a visit.
All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this property and may return there again!
Tranquil and well sited
Very comfortable for the 5 of us and Edward very accommisating of any little extras we needed.
Small village France but great to go in all directions. Sarlat, Rocamadour, Perugueux. Brantome, Oradour sur Glane. Plenty of just relaxing around the pool.
Highly recommended and great to have things like a dishwasher and washing machine.
Les Vergers, Champniers Reilhac
We have just had a fantastic 2016 family holiday at Les Vergers. The house, garden and pool were perfect for two adults and three wee girls. We loved the peace and quiet of the village and managed a few trips to the tennis court and evening visits to the bar. Ed was a great host and it was good to have him handy for pointers on where to go and what do locally. The Etang at St Estephe is definitely worth a visit for the beach, the canoes and the 'ferry'. The weather was fantastic and the Dordogne is truly a beautiful spot for a family holiday. We hope to back to Les Vergers some time soon.
The property is in the village of Champniers-et-Reilhac which is 5km south of St Mattieu and a 20 minute drive north of Nontron. The nearest airport is Limoges which is 45 minutes to the north east. St Mathieu boasts a magnificent man made lake and beach! There is plenty to do here; boating, swimming, sunbathing or dining out. In Champniers you will find a tennis court (free), Local bar, the Mayor's office and a church all within walking distance of the house (50 metres)!
