About Murray Mintz
I am a screen writer & director who lives in California. When not working or traveling, I spend most of my time in Panajachel. When guests rent the house, I am happy to point them to places of interest around the Lake.
Murray Mintz purchased this Villa in 1998
Why Murray Mintz chose Panajachel
I do not own this property, but represnt the estate of my late former wife Jane, who came to this part of Guatemala about 20 years ago, where she setup a foundation to help widows of the 20 year civil war. She found this then undeveloped land and built a house for herself, where she spent many months per year. After her passing 5 years ago the property went into a long and continuing Guatemalan probate which I as one of the heirs have been asked to oversee from afar. The property itself is unique in that it provides serenity and is away from the hustle and bustle of Panajachel, a tourist destination in itself, but which is the jumping off place for most of the other lake towns. The house is located in it's own gated compound, on a secluded hillside in the 'Jucanya' neighborhood of Pana, an area pretty much unknown to the average tourist and is only a 10-15 minute walk from town center. Once you enter gate, you're transported to a serene world high above the lake with magnificent views and towering volcanoes, accompanied by the soothing sound of a waterfall which cascades down through the landscape from a mountain spring above. You are truly inside your own private paradise, yet close to everything you will ever need.
What makes this Villa unique
The property provides you a place to get away from it all. A magical place to rest and recharge your own personal batteries. There is no better spot to sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy the view of the ever setting sunsets over one of the most famous lakes on the earth. Yet, for those times when you feel the need to be connected, like picking up your email, or checking into your Facebook page, or phoning back home, there is wireless Internet and a cell phone to keep you connected. And, for those quiet times at the end of the day, a comfortable living room suite; a place to lie back and read the novel you brought with you or a Guatemala travel guide, to help you plan the next day or continuation of your Central American adventure.

From making the booking to checking out everything went flawlessly. Murray the owner quickly responded to all communications. The property is located on a hill so there is a short walk up to the house that would be tough if you have mobility issues. There is a main house and two adjacent bungalows and we used them all. The house is stocked with all that you'll need. The views are spectacular and we spent time just relaxing and enjoying the sunsets. We always walked into town, 15-20 minutes. This is a wonderful home in a magical place. Muchos gracias.
Perfect view! The house has all the necessarry stuff to have a wonderfull stay.
Our stay was wonderfull. The house is nice, with all the necessarry stuff to have a nice stay, hot water, wifi, tv, full kitchen, fantastic views, everything perfect!
The view is spectacular!
Our family of 5 loved our stay. Murray (owner) & his staff did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Waking up to the incredible view of the lake & surrounding volcanoes was priceless. My husband & I spent one of our days reading & relaxing while our 3 kids went off on their adventure. Highly recommended when visiting Lake Atitlan!
Our party of 4 really loved this place! There are 3 houses, all come with fantastic views! The gardens here are also very well done - the variety of flowers and plants will have your head spinning. The location is great, and parking was easy. We drove to Calle Santander and caught the ferry to San Juan and San Pedro, and enjoyed lots of restaurants in Panajachel on Calle Santander. We opted for the "cena tipico" and Otelia made us a fantastic meal. It was a dream weekend. Murray and his staff were extremely helpful, providing easy directions and even helped my mother with her bags coming up the steps. Muchas gracias! We loved it!
We were a group of 6 that stayed here for 3 nights, so we had the main house, bungalow, and casita. The previous reviews and the photos are all accurate. The property is very well maintained, the owner and caretakers are helpful, and the washer-dryer much appreciated after our muddy trip to Tikal/Yaxha. The interior was a clever blend of Western and Mayan styles. We needed some instructions on using the shower in the casita, but everything else was perfect.
The house is located in a residential section. We walked to and from the main part of town everyday... until the last day, after hiking the Upper Mayan trail. I wish we had realized sooner how fast and cheap the tuk tuks were.
The owner helped us arrange van transport from Guatemala City. The driver safely and easily navigated the curvy roads into Panajachel in the dark. (Other people we traveled with had a less pleasant experience with their driver, booked through an agency.) On the ride back to Guatemala City, the driver stopped at a few points to show us some scenic spots for photos.
The entire experience from inquiring and booking all the way through transport back to GC was easy and smooth. It was the perfect end to our Guatemala trip. If you're looking for a relaxing trip to Lake Atitlan, I highly recommend staying at Casa Juana!
