**Even though our calendar reflects no vacancy we will consider guests who are looking to stay for several months during fall 2016/winter 2017 seasons. Please contact us via email for details.**
Our tropical studio (or 'ohana' as they are called in Hawaii) has beautiful ocean views from the studio’s lanai area, front entrance and driveway area as well as spectacular ocean sunset views year round! Our studio is located in the home that we live in so we are your immediate neighbors.
The Tropical Studio is located in Waikoloa Village, which is a residential area, approximately 6 miles from the famous Waikoloa Beach Resort area and the best beaches on the island!
Whether you are into golf, exploring volcano activity on the other side of the island, enjoying lazy days spent on white sandy beaches or searching for the bountiful treasures that the Big Island has to offer, our tropical studio is the perfect 'base-camp' for relaxing and rejuvenating island style.
This charming studio is very comfortable and inviting with windows throughout for natural sunlight and airflow. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood and has great ocean views and year round sunset views from the studio's lanai area and front entry. Decorated in a tropical theme our studio is freshly painted and has a new, comfortable California King size bed. The kitchen has bamboo floors, brightly colored counter tops and is equipped with a full size fridge/freezer, microwave, 2 burner hot plate (there is no oven or stove but every other piece of cooking equipment to get the job done), toaster oven, blender, toaster, crock pot, electric skillet, rice maker, coffee maker, coffee grinder, french press, electric kettle and all necessary kitchen utensils; silverware, glassware, dishes, pots and pans, etc. as well as a brand new large 4 burner stainless steel, propane BBQ, perfect for grilling the fresh catch of the day or local Big Island beef.
We offer a unique setting for Waikoloa Village, our studio is part of our home, so both the main house and the studio are under one roof but they each have their own entrance and individual living space and outdoor space. Many other vacation rentals in this area are either condos or houses and there are no B&B’s. Staying in our studio, you will experience the best of all worlds, your own private place along with the benefit of “innkeepers”, sharing our knowledge of the island's best places to go and things to do. If you are seasoned Hawaii travelers and know your way around then we simply offer you a nicely appointed, clean and cozy place to stay as you come and go as you please.
We look forward to sharing our home’s studio space with you and supporting you in discovering all of the wonderful and amazing places and cultural sites that the Big Island has to offer. Mahalo nui loa for considering our little 'peace' of paradise!
Special Note: Our house is perched atop its lot to provide for spectacular views which also means that there is a fairly steep driveway to walk up and down to/from the parking spot/studio. However, at any time you can drive up the driveway for loading and unloading purposes. There are 6 steps up to the front door.
We have lived in Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii for the past 9 years. We moved from San Diego, California, because we were ready for a simpler life style, a slower pace of life and the aloha spirit that really does exist in everyday interactions here. We feel very fortunate to call Hawaii our home because there is so much diversity, both in culture and landscape. Where else can you get up close and personal with an active volcano and then the next day be snorkeling in the warm, azure waters of the Pacific? It is truly a remarkable place to live and we are happy to be able to share our home and our local knowledge with our guests.
Jennifer and Tom purchased this studio in 2012
The wife part of the relationship has been coming to Hawaii since 18 years of age and had a dream of one day living in Hawaii. Much later in life she met the husband part of the relationship and celebrated by vacationing in Hawaii and then they both had the dream! Hawaii is a very unique place with its Native Hawaiian history and yet it is part of the United States, it is the most isolated island chain in the world and yet living here creates a feeling of closeness to the land and to the many different ethnicity of people that call Hawaii home.
We rented this property prior to buying it and fell in love with the spectacular and amazing views. We spend almost every evening on our lanai watching the sunset and hoping for a green flash and in winter seeing the whales breach in the distance!
"What a great place just perfect for me and my wife and it is centrally located, just 30 minutes from Kona. The bed was really comfortable as I'm a big guy, there was no squeakiness and no bowing when I got into bed. We will be back and by the way did I mention the great hosts." This studio may seem a little out of the way at first glance but it turned out to be the perfect location for my wife and I and our 14 day stay. Waikoloa Village is a quaint little community about a 30 minute drive up the coast from Kona Airport. It is very safe and quiet here. You'll need a vehicle to get here but it is reasonably close and an easy drive (about 7 miles) to some very nice beaches and a good base to visit many of the famous Big Island sites, including the volcanoes.
The owners, Jennifer and Tom, are the perfect hosts, very friendly and accommodating. They can provide lots of good information about the island and different places to visit. The studio itself was very clean with all of the amenities required for a comfortable stay - cable TV, wi-fi, 3 piece bathroom, fully outfitted kitchen, comfortable king size bed, washer and adjacent clothes line . There is no oven but we never needed it. A fairly new, well kept barbecue is available for your exclusive use and we used it almost every day. There's also some beach equipment that's available - beach chairs, cooler, boogie boards. Jennifer and Tom even loaned us their snorkel gear. There is no air-conditioning available either. However, since Waikoloa Village is situated at about 1000 feet above sea level, some very nice breezes come through here. Even though the daytime temperatures could become quiet warm, we never missed the air-conditioning. Two ceiling fans did the cooling job very nicely, when required.
Would we return here - absolutely!!
We stayed there for 4 nights. It was perfect for us. Reasonable rate. Cozy studio. Tom & Jennifer were very helpful/friendly but at the sometime very professional. We enjoyed our stay there and will definitely go back...
It was a lovely, well appointed studio in Waikoloa Village. Tom and Jennifer went out of their way to make our stay great!
We have no complaints.
My husband and I have stayed at Jennifer and Tom's Tropical Studio several times now and would NOT consider any other accommodation while on vacation on the Big Island. We consider the studio our "second home". It is relaxing, very quiet and exceptionally clean. Jennifer and Tom go the extra mile to make their guests feel welcome. We cannot say enough of the "Aloha" spirit which is felt here!! The pictures on the site and all the information given is exactly as indicated. Thank you both for opening up your home to us. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

I absolutely adored this studio. The personal touch is evident from decorations to little things like ziplock bags in the kitchen and an ice chest and beach towels to borrow. We saved so much time and money by being able to pack a lunch in the ice chest! There were guide books we borrowed as well which helped us plan our adventures. We ended up splitting our time between beaches past Kona and Hilo so this was a good middle ground. And quiet! So pleasant! The view was spectacular. If you stay elsewhere you're nuts!
The tropical studio was perfect for out stay in Waikoloa. Well equipped and comfortable. Our hosts Jennifer and Tom were welcoming and extremely helpful and steered us to some amazing Big Island experiences, including a magical musical concert that was one of the highlights of our entire trip. Waikoloa Village is quiet and away from some of the busier parts of the Kona coast, but still close to beaches and activities. I'd highly recommend it.

Waikoloa Village is a sleepy little community consisting mostly of permanent residences, snow birds and vacationers. It is centrally located on the island so that you can easily manage day trips from this location. It also has the majority of necessary commercial amenities such a nicely appointed grocery store -Waikoloa Village Market, a gas station, US post office, Waikoloa Mail Boxes, real estate office or two, doctor, dentist, acupuncturist and naturopathic offices, baby equipment/beach gear rental store, 2 restaurants that serve breakfast and coffee drinks, 2 restaurants that serve lunch and dinner, 1 restaurant that serves dinner only and 1 bar & grill on the golf course.
