About Dayle Smith

Our beautiful creek side property was purchased for family enjoyment. We are greatful to be able to share it with our daughters, their husbands, and our 8 grandchildren and now, through the rental cabins, with others. Our goal is to keep it as natural as possible, providing a legacy of enjoying the out of doors for our family. If you need more space we have an adjacent cottage that sleeps 8.

Dayle Smith purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Dayle Smith chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

All we could think about when we saw it is 'what a beautiful, healthy, safe place to be a child'....just drive into the driveway and all the distractions of the world go away.

What makes this cabin unique

This property has given us a 'both/and' experience. We are away, in a quiet, natural setting, yet we are only 10 miles from the enchanting town of West Jefferson and 40 miles from Boone.

The benefits of being right on the creek are too numerous to mention! The sounds, the fishing, the kayaking/rafting, and just the watching of all the birds, deer, and other critters is more entertainment than we can almost take in!

We will be back ASAP!

This was my families favorite vacation, so far. Our kids are 2, 4 and -1 month. This is the perfect place to relax while the kids run around and play in the creek. The trout were amazing and so were Dayle and Linda. We couldn't ask for better hospitality. They literally have everything you could want from extra water shoes to wooden toy boats to full size kayaks and canoes. We will be booking another in 2018, but with 3 kids in tow and probably some grand parents for the 2nd cabin.

Grassy Creek paradise

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin on Helton Creek . The cabin is in an ideal location and was very clean. The caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were extremely nice and helpful. We fished, kayaked, and built fires by the creek. Will definitely come back.

Beautiful cabin in picturesque and relaxing mountain area

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we pulled up to the property, we knew this was going to be a memorable experience for our family. Being avid fishermen, my boys couldn't wait to start fishing the creek. A break from our city life was very much needed and welcomed. They ran wild and loved staying in the cozy and amply stocked cabin. Dayle and Linda were amazing hosts who felt like family. Mr. Jones, the owner, was also there to share a wealth of information about fishing for trout. We were not too far from Boone and made that drive to the area for snow tubing. The small and adorable town of West Jefferson was nearby and we went there twice for lunch and dinner and to shop for some groceries. We celebrated my son's 7th birthday while there - definitely his favorite birthday so far. We hope to go back to make more memories.

The cabin is located on one of North Carolina's primier trout streams and the owner routinely stocks the water in addition to the state stocking program. Located on a dead end with only three other cabins on the 6 plus acres this is an ideal seculded get away yet only 300 yards back to a paved state road. The property has open grass

areas for games and biking riding on the local gravel roads with little traffic. An outdoor fireplace with wood provided is a great gathering place down by the creek. Local canoe outfitters can provide services for canoeing or tubing the New River. The historic town of West Jefferson is located just 10 minutes away with all the necessary services, grocery stores, restaurants and liquor store. For those who want a break from the pease and quiet the townes of Boone and Blowing Rock are 45 mintures away on good roads. These locations provide great outlet shopping, snow skiing, and dinning options. To the north one will find Grayson Highlands National Park with great hiking options and the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail, one of the highlights of the ares.
