About Keith and Jo

Keith and I live in England with our two teenage sons. We work for ourselves and are lucky to be able to spend a few weeks of the year in lovely Istria, although it's always difficult to leave! We would be very happy to discuss and answer any questions you may have. As we have spent a considerable amount of time in Istria I think we can give more local information than you would normally obtain from a brochure, or browsing the internet.

Keith and Jo purchased this villa in 2005

Why Keith and Jo chose Istria

We love this area because of its exciting past and the influence that neighbouring countries have had on it. The occupation by the Romans can still be seen by the extremely well preserved architecture including the amphitheatre in Pula. The ownership of Istria by Italy is evident by the wonderful Italian dishes available and the dual names of most local signs. The surrounding area has so much to offer and the coastline is amazing with it's many islands and inlets complimented by the crystal clear warm water of the Adriatic. The countryside is very unspoilt and the local people are so friendly. Istria was once part of Italy and you will see the Italian influence with architecture and wonderful cuisine. There are great bars and restaurants in the village of Tar which offer excellent ice creams, coffee, and pastries at prices you will find very pleasing. The neighbouring towns of Novigrad and Porec offer similar variety on a larger scale, seafood, steaks, pasta and pizzas are all of excellent quality.

What makes this villa unique

The small Bella Vista complex is very unusual having both a floodlit all weather tennis court and a pool which are only a few steps from our door. We offer complimentary wi-fi to our guests, important if you wish to remain in touch. The house is a short walk from the village centre, yet in a quiet location. We love the tennis court and pool, and swimming in the warm sea at any of the local beaches is a treat. You really can do as much or as little as you like at Bella Vista. Check out this slideshow

Istrian Adventure

  • 5 of 5

Overall absolutely amazing. We loved our stay at Jo and Keith's house in Tar. The setting was so peaceful, overlooking the vineyards, orchards and olive groves. You can see the sea from the upstairs balcony and evening sunsets were absolutely beautiful. The house is about a 20 minute walk down to the nearest cove - and early morning swims were sublime - ploughing through calm glassy green water. If you are a swimmer - this place is for you. We fell a little in love with Istria - quiet Mediterranean scenery, stunning coastline, loads to do for those who want to be active (walking, biking, tennis) - but also a great place to chill for those who want to crash. Jo and Keith's the house is a brilliant base for exploring - but also a wonderful place to relax and just be. Also, fabulous restaurants nearby meant we didn't need to go far to get great food and local wine. For us, ingredients of a superb holiday.

A new experience for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The location of the property is conveniently situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Tar just off the main road between the coastal towns of Novigrad and Porec. The property was well equipped for our stay and with southwesterly views towards the sea making evening meals "al fresco" on the wooden decking verandah very pleasant. Both the shared pool and tennis courts are conveniently located close to the house which was clean and well maintained. There is a good range of local literature and information which we were able to draw upon to find our bearings. The local tourist office and information points are very helpful. We found the whole proviince of Istria was very accessible from Tar and there is a good range of activites to suit every taste and pallet. We would thoroughly recommend the property to not just friends or relatives but to anyone else with an interest in going to that part of Croatia.

A summer break in Tar

  • 4 of 5

The villa provided ample space for our family of 4 (boys aged 7 and 9) and the open plan, modern layout and furnishings made for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen and utilities provided everything we needed for 2 weeks (except for an ironing board!) including tennis rackets for the court and a fab TV. The pool side was a little sparce as everyone keeps their deck chairs in the villas and there are no umbrellas but we soon got used to carrying things back and forth each day and realistically the area around the pool is not big enough for everyone to keep chairs out. Our boys enjoyed meeting other children staying in the neighbouring villas (approx 10) and although many were in use during our stay, everything felt very peaceful and we enjoyed many quiet evenings beside the bbq watching the glorious sunsets and the farmer tending his vineyard. The garden although small and relatively untended was private and the decking and kiwi plant a hit.

We found lots to do in nearby Lanterna (a beachside inflatable waterpark, pedalos, ringos, snorkelling) and loved Porec both for daytime activities, evening strolls, shopping and restaurants. Novigrad is also nearby and worth an evening trip. We ventured up to Pazin in the mountains to find a waterfall and river for swimming. Although advertised in a leaflet we picked up in the tourist office it was really tricky to find and after a few enquiries located along a rough stoney path via a small, old hand carved sign. This sums up our whole experience of Istria really in that tourism does not seem to be a big agenda for the people there, although one assumes it must be very important to them. There is no hassle to buy things, no sense of crime. The roads are good but not busy and everyone relaxed and polite. We fitted in a 3 day trip (mid holiday) to Venice, driving to Trieste and then on by train. This was easy to coordinate and well worth the effort. Also good to return to Tar after our city break to relax again by the pool and top up the tan! All in all a restful holiday in a comfortable and convenient location to explore Northern Istria.

Week in Tar

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time in Tar. The house is very spacious and well appointed. The terrace is a very relaxing place to idle time. The village has some nice restaurants. Nearby the resorts of Porec and Novigrad offer all sorts of options. So, you can have a chill out or busy holiday or a mix of both. Highly recommended. One thing, the villas in this complex are in rows. This property is in the best row. Choose this over the others that are available if you can.

Excellent for families with children

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Istria. The villa was airy, tastefully decorated and well equipped - the washing machine and diswasher came in handy. If you have children like we have, the plasma tv and dvd were a nice plus. The villa and the pool area were beautiful and clean. Our kids loved the pool and sunbathing. The location is superb - pretty towns on the coast are easily reached. We also visited Slovenia and Italy, and the passport control etc. were nearly non-existing. We recommend this property especially to families for its peaceful and yet central location. Thank you Jo and Keith!
