Having looked in Leland a long time for the perfect place, we were fortunate to find this beautiful home in 2012. Well constructed this 2 story home features 9' coffered beamed ceilings and hardwood flooring. It boasts stainless appliances, beautiful quartz counters, central air conditioning and heat as well as an enclosed gas fireplace. Ceiling speakers enhance your enjoyment of flat screen tv's (liv.Rm & mast.Bdrm). Internet & wifi also included. Master bedroom includes a california king bed, walk in closet, tiled bath with walk in shower and beautiful quartz counters.
Queen bedroom looks out to the river behind the home as does the twin bunk bedroom with an extra twin trundle making it easy to sleep 3 or 4 and is fun especially for children. Both queen and twin bedrooms feature walk in closets. The 2 upper baths feature tile floors. A washer and dryer have been added for your convenience for any light washing you may have during your stay. A gorgeous kitchen with new stainless appliances and an island for seating or food preparing can actually seat 9 (6 at dining table and 3 at island). A tiled mudroom prior to entering the kitchen from the back patio offers a place to hang your towels and take off your beach shoes. A one car garage is included and there is plenty of extra street parking. A large patio in back features your own barbecue grill, patio table with chairs and umbrella. The front of the house features an inviting front porch, as well as an interior porch to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner.
Although my wife and I are presently living in San Diego, we are native Michiganders. We were raised and schooled in the same home town, and worked in various areas of the state. As a forester, I lived where the job took me.That resulted in my living in other areas of the country. The summers always drew us back to Michigan to reunite with family and long time friends. My wife as a young girl enjoyed the beaches of Leland with her family, and later spent several summers at Interlochen as a student. Prior to our marriage I lived for 13 years in Traverse City, enjoying many visits to Leland, even in winter to enjoy walking the beaches with their enormous frozen waves. We both have always loved the town of Leland and had long searched for a second home there. Once we saw this place in February of 2012 we knew that was where we wanted to be.
Bill Buck and/or Suzanne Buck purchased this townhome in 2012
Having looked at many properties over a long time, we decided a central location on Main St. was the ideal choice. It's proximity to all in town was perfect: restaurants, the library, fishtown, art galleries and beaches all were but a few minutes walk. We loved the typical cottage craftsman style, and the attention to detail in its interior. Solid wood doors and trim were the extra touch. It is our Home Away from Home, and we love spending time there. You can put kayaks in the water without having to drive anywhere.
When we walked through the front door and saw the coffered beam ceilings and quality workmanship we knew it was special. Care had been taken to give old cottage style feeling with lots of big windows and open living space. No other property came close to its quality...and location was perfect! We wanted the type of furnishings to make you feel you were at home, and hope you will not only appreciate everything it offers, but care for it as we do. It is so nice to come into a well kept, clean home to start your vacation!
If you are thinking about renting this place, pay careful attention to the review of Jennifer H. She experienced the exact same "theft of security deposit" we did.
You will find the house in acceptable condition. And, when you leave, like most people you will inspect every room, drawer, closet and waste basket. You will exit the house feeling good about your stay and the condition in which you left the house. Then it will get interesting.
You are (by contract) supposed to receive refund of you security deposit within seven days of your departure. When that did not happen, we sent an email to the owner inquiring why not. (The owner resides out of state and is not able to inspect the property.) We then received a response about all the terrible things we did to the house. The owner claimed our grandkids had left fingerprints on every window, we had left a dirty diaper in a waste basket, that a bookcase had been moved and damaged, and that the cleaning service had to work longer due to all the laundry.
Absolutely none of this was true. Our grandkids, 5, 2 and 11 months were in Leland for two days to take part in our son's wedding. Because of all the activities, they were in the house only at night to sleep. We emptied all the trash and made sure nothing was left in any room. We actually started one load of laundry (towels, because we know they take longer to dry and wanted to accommodate the next guests) before we left. And when we arrived, we did not complain about the refrigerator and freezer, which did not work properly, or the master bathroom sink which had to have globs of hair and toothpaste removed so it would drain.
We have been blessed to be able to travel all over the world and have stayed in hundreds of different rooms and rentals. We have always insisted on leaving a place as good as we found it. This trip was no exception.
The owner did not respond at all to our report. We believe the cleaning service either "invented" work to justify a higher cleaning fee or that both owner and cleaning service and in on this ruse (see Jennifer H. review).
And, as we said earlier, you're supposed to receive your security deposit by contract within seven days of departure. We received less than half our security deposit (which doesn't even include the standard cleaning fee) 25 days after our exit.
Rent this house if you dare, but be prepared to lose most of you security deposit for things that will not happen.
Our family rented this lovely house for 3 weeks this summer (July 2016). The home is new, very comfortable, easy to live in, clean and filled with light. It is very well maintained. Any maintenance problems we had were quickly taken care of by the owners who were very attentive in every way.
We wanted a house in town where two grand children could go everywhere on a bike - to the beach, to town, to sailing lessons, to fish and to meet friends. It was a perfect location for them as it was for the adults because we could walk everywhere - grocery store, harbor, shops, book store, and restaurants.
For our family there is no more perfect spot for a summer vacation than Leland, MI. This house made it an even more unforgettable summer.
This house was everything we expected and MORE! Almost brand new, it did not disappoint, as the décor and amenities were tasteful and VERY clean and had all the comforts of home. The location is fabulous, as you can walk to town, breakfast, Lake Michigan...all a few minutes from the front door. The beaches close by are beautiful and sunsets are breathtaking. The kayaks were wonderful too, as the Leland River is just steps from the back porch. We have stayed at other places in Leland, but will most definitely plan on staying at this home again on our next trip to Michigan. A perfect place to stay if you are wanting to explore the Leelanau peninsula and surrounding areas. The owners were extremely friendly and easy to deal with. Two thumbs up!
Incredibly clean, modern, nicely decorated townhouse. Sunny and with plenty of space. Great front porch and back patio. Quick walk to town and the lake. Really enjoyed the provided kayaks. Stayed for a week last summer. Can't wait to return.
This house is new, clean, and close to everything in Leland -- beach, town, harbor, Yacht Club, Country Club. My wife and I have 3 sons (7, 5, and 2) and picked this house so we could easily walk to everything we needed, avoiding too many car-seat-meltdowns. This house was perfect. We stayed for 2 weeks and had no issues. We went to the beach every day, could walk with the kids to sailing or tennis. It was great!
Do not rent this property. The house is nicely done, but we were charged almost $200 from our security deposit for damage we did not cause even after I sent pictures to prove the condition of the house when we departed. The renters are out of state and rely on cleaners who gave them false information. Also, there is a huge house being built behind the property which was very loud and disruptive and block all the views of the canal. Stay away---there are many other properties in Leland!
This area in leland is ideal for all water activities: fishing, swimming, kayaking and the water is so clear snorkeling is also fun. A favorite hike is to the top of the Empire Bluff. Biking is also very popular with protected trails going all the way from Traverse City to Empire. The whole family will love climbing the sleeping bear dunes. In fish town there are many interesting shops and a place to view its history and also see where fish are smoked. Tours to the Manitou Islands can also be booked there.
