About Bert Herndon
Carl and Bert Herndon are long time residents of Bigfork. This wonderful town is where we chose to raise our family. Since the kids are grown, we now 'winter' in a warmer climate but will continue to go back to Bigfork for the summer and fall. Bigfork is a magical village with outdoor activities available for everyone in the village and surrounding areas.
Bert Herndon purchased this House in 2012
Why Bert Herndon chose Bigfork

A wonderful retreat
My wife and I were able to take a wonderful getaway in October to this beautiful house.
Its a wonderful place to spend a quiet week. The house itself is immaculate and extremely cozy. While it was certainly more house than just a couple of people would need (it could house 8 or 10 people), the owners did a great job keeping it cozy despite the roominess - if that makes sense.
The views from the deck are incredibly relaxing.. and the lake/river itself is wonderful. Since we were there in October so it was too cold to swim, but I bet that would be great on a hot summer day. Instead my wife and I spent a bunch of time in the kayaks the place has - paddling up and down the river or trying to catch a fish with the rods also at the house.
I should also say that the town of Bigfork is a beautiful little town - a great place to stroll about for a day or two. Also, its great that it's only 45 min or so to Glacier National park - and a pretty drive at that.
All in all, I am happy I was able to spend the time at this beautiful house in a great corner of America.
Thank you so much for the visit! Also, so glad you were able to relax and enjoy! That is the best thing about this house - the opportunity to just relax.
Best Vacation Ever
The photos on the website do not do the property justice. The River Ranch is perfectly appointed in a beautiful setting. We were fortunate to rent the house for one month and were sad to leave. The owner of the house lives locally and was always available whenever we had any questions or needed local recommendations for shopping, restaurants, entertainment and sightseeing.
I will work on the pictures. Thank you so much for visiting! Fun to share my little town with you!
Wonderful, peaceful setting
Our family of 5 had a great week on the river. The location is superb - close to town, but a feeling of being remote. We loved the views of the river and the mountains. You will find the house very well equipped with whatever you need, and it is beautifully maintained. We especially enjoyed the kayaks.
Location, Location, Location
My wife has always said that the most important feature of a house is its location. With that in mind we have to give Bert's rental property on the Swan River a five star rating. All of the other features of this house were simply pluses that added to the enjoyment and experience of our stay in Bigfork, MT. Clean, well furnished, comfortable beds, and a great layout made our stay that much more enjoyable. You won't be disappointed.
thank you so much for your kind words!
Beautifully located with lots of space for 6 adults and two teenagers. Lovely memories created here.
The location was so serene. Spent a lot of time on the porches watching the ducks, deer and bald eagle and beautiful sunsets and full moon risings. The dock was fun fishing for pike for my son and grandson, as well as the kayak fishing. Trips into Kalispell, Whitefish and Glacier completed the venue. The house was tastefully decorated and comfortable. Berts suggestion for Jewel Basin was acted on by the two real fisherman. It was a most memorable vacation! One our whole family will never forget. Many thanks!!
thanks, so glad you had a great time!
Beautiful Home; Perfect Location!!
Our family (5 adults and 3 children) stayed at this large log cabin home for a week in June, 2016. The home is beautifully finished with 4 large bedrooms, 2 large family rooms, a very large kitchen and a huge, elevated deck on the Swan River. Bert Herndon has done a great job outfitting the home with absolutely everything visitors will need (lots of dishes, cooking utensils, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, etc, etc). There is a dock and 4 kayaks (and lifejackets) which can be used on the Swan River. The river has a very mild current so paddling upstream is quite easy, even for our 11 year old granddaughter. There is also some baseball equipment and a large grassed open area to play ball or other outdoor games. There is also a ping pong table. Lots of deer come out near dusk. Bert met us when we arrived and was quite helpful providing suggestions of places to go and activities. The cabin is located about 5 minutes from Bigfork which has a very well stocked grocery store, hardware store, a quaint downtown with unique shops and a playhouse ... there was no reason to drive into Kalispell. It is a 45 minute drive to Glacier National Park. My wife and I couldn't speak more highly about this home, its location or our experience ... it exceeded our expectations!
Thanks for coming to visit the Valley.
This is the perfect place for outdoor adventure. Hiking, biking, water sports, even peace and quiet are all very close and easily accessible.
