The home is very private, quiet and situated on an acre of lush landscaped land with flowers and fruit trees that are intrinsic to well being. Red ‘Ohana Owner, Laura Monahan, has over 30 years experience in the luxury hotel industry. She is the ultimate host and never misses a detail when it comes to making your stay at the Red ‘Ohana memorable. You can find her most mornings paddling along Mauna Kea Beach or hiking through the beautiful Waimea hills with her two Australian Shepherds. Red ‘Ohana Manager, Megan Peterson, has a background in business and hospitality. She has a passion for creating unique experiences for guests and can assist you with anything from planning a Mauna Kea Summit picnic under the stars, diving with manta rays, or a sunset sail along the Kohala Coast. Megan and her family have been on the Big Island for over 30 years and she and her husband are expecting their second daughter.
Red 'Ohana distinguishes itself from other vacation rentals first and foremost because of the casual elegance that you just won't find elsewhere. Our property is both spacious and private, and the O"hanas were the original Parker Ranch caretakers' quarters. Once you explore the island, you will appreciate the mild, temperate climate. The property atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. Your access to Waimea town is a 5 minute drive and access to beautiful beaches is an easy, scenic 8 minute drive. It would be difficult to find a property with all of features and amenities for the same price elsewhere on the island. Sometimes local residents stay with us for their weekend getaway. Many parents stay with us when visiting their children who attend Hawaii Preparatory Academy and Parker Ranch School.

Great rental for our family from Oahu and Hilo! Clean, comfortable, spacious, bright, and airy! Laura was a great host and was extremely responsive to our needs! Laura even provided a high chair for our 1 yr. old granddaughter that we didn't even request! It was quite helpful! Hope to return sometime soon!
This three bedroom house has all the amenities of home! Great location near Waimea town. Quiet and Peaceful. Lots of windows to let in the cool trade-winds. Everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation. Laura and Megan were wonderful hosts, and very attentive to our every need!
We loved the Red 'Ohana! It was the perfect escape for our family of 3. Megan and Laura had the house prepared with items for our young daughter and also made great suggestions for activities and places to eat nearby. The back lanai was our go to spot for morning coffee, BBQ at night or just reading a book. So incredible to be in the nice Waimea climate with the best beaches just a few minutes away. We love this place and will be returning soon! Thank you for making our vacation so memorable!
The three bedroom house is a spacious, comfortable, relaxing country home, thoughtfully renovated and supplied with every household convenience. We loved the location, in a cool and quiet spot just outside of Waimea town, in easy reach of beautiful beaches. We can't wait to return.
Our family of four (two adult children) stayed here in March, 2016 and really enjoyed the place. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable and even the ceiling fans were quiet. The appliances were top notch including a super quiet Bosch dishwasher and clothes washer / dryer of which we made great use. It is a very comfortable home base and a short drive to Waimea for groceries, restaurants, etc. We love the north part of the big island and could easily drive to many great locations (such as Hawi and the surrounding area which is definitely worth a visit).
Most of all, I can't say enough about how incredibly helpful Megan was. She answered my many emails promptly and always had great suggestions for us - in fact every suggestion of hers turned into yet another highlight for us. I am guessing she also arranged for that incredible rainbow over the back yard on our last day!

If you are looking for a unique, clean and beautiful home to stay while visiting the big island the red'ohana is your perfect place. My family and I were fortunate enough to find this gem. And it will always have a special place in my heart as my fiancé proposed out on the patio underneath the stars, which was absolutely romantic. Laura who manages this property was so helpful and kind. She took the time to answer any questions we had about the island and she set up a beautiful night to remember and celebrate our union at the Manta restaurant. Thank you so much Laura for being a part of this incredible trip, it was very noticeable that you take pride in this property. We appreciate the little touches you had ready on arrival and throughout our stay. It was close to everything we wanted to do which was hike, lounge by the beach and shop at the local farmer's market. Red 'Ohana (2BR and 3BR) provides the most authentic connection to old Hawaii with truly ideal weather, plenty of modern conveniences, quick access to resort beaches, and without the feeling of being in a tourist town. Two shopping centers, several art galleries, a performing arts theater, fine and casual dining, a sense of community, and the best beaches in the state are just some of the reasons to stay with us here Kamuela/Waimea. No where else on the island are there 4 weekly farmers markets - 3 on Saturday, 1 on Wednesday. Taste and experience the aloha among friends, families, and farmers. Cook up fresh organic produce and local beef in our gourmet kitchen or BBQ on the lanai. Amenities abound - use the stable of bodyboards, beach chairs, and beach umbrellas. We can suggest, plan, or arrange a tour or itinerary suited to your interests, time, and priorities. At the end of the day, sleep in the most luxurious beds - resort beds won't compare.
