'West O' House or 'Cottage' is VERY COMFORTABLE and convenient to all Austin events, this is your home away from home, a newly remodeled 1950's home. This home has hardwood floors throughout. There is a very nice living and dining room, great new kitchen with granite counters and new stainless appliances.
The largest bedroom has a KING bed, the 2nd bedroom has a Queen bed. Both bedrooms have makeup stations with mirrors provided, this helps to free up the single bathroom. The bathroom is very nice, bright and cheery! There is a daybed in the bonus room where there is a new washer and dryer for extended stays of over 5 days please.
You will enjoy the easy in and out features of this home. No lobby to walk through just walk right in from the covered carport and you are home!
This home has been decorated with much attention to details that will make it comfortable for guest! You will enjoy the Texas art on the walls and the artist touches throughout the home.
I call this place 'West O' (for the western influence in the decorating and also for the street it is on). I also call it 'The House on the Corner' which is important because this makes it easy to get in and out of! You will find lots to do within 2 miles of this house! It is between South Congress (So Co) & South Lamar (So La) and 2 blocks from So 1st St. Austin's downtown is just 2 miles away! I love the great location of this home!
Hi, I am Tessa, the owner of 707 'West O' House. I graduated from the University of Texas and stayed in Austin, got married and have raised all four of my children in Austin. My youngest just got married and the older three have families of their own. I have 6 grandchildren and love every part of being a grandmother. Larry, the artist, and I have been remodeling the 'West O' cottage for the past year and are excited that it is finished and ready for company! We (T&L) have put a lot of Care (TLC) into making this a special place for guest visiting Austin. We live in south Austin, very close to the property, and are available to help if we can.
Teresa White (Tessa) purchased this cottage in 2011
I saw this cottage for sale on the corner and decided to call about it. The home was built in 1949 and was in need of a lot of TLC. I decided to buy it and see if I could put this property to good use. I hope that you will agree that I have succeeded.
My vision for the house has been realized. When I first walked into the home I liked it! The hardwood floors might have a chance, the small built in phone nook, original to the home, is not seen in homes today. The yellow tile in the bath room would look nice with a new tile floor and a new toilet. The old bathroom heater on the wall would be a cute towel rack. The walk-through room would make a nice laundry/rest area.
There is a carport that now serves as a covered patio with table and chairs, this is a nice place to sit outside on a cool day. There is a front porch for a cup of coffee early mornings on the weekend!
I remodeled the kitchen and it is has everything you would need and looks great!
We loved staying in this beautiful neighborhood. It was so nice to get away from the crowds at UT graduation. The highways were easy to get to as was the campus. Loved the coffee Tessa provided. It was a nice way to start our morning each day. The king size bed was very comfortable. The house fit our needs perfectly, and we had 5 adults.
We enjoyed our stay in this small house. Everything was clean and comfortable. The location is great. The one downside is it is next to a busy street, but it did not disturb our sleep. It was a good place for us to stay with my daughter, her husband and their twin grand babies as opposed to a hotel. We would stay here again.
I took my family to ACL for both weekends! It was a special time and we were quite comfortable at West O. Adorable place and Tessa, a gracious host, gave us lots of tips! We will definitely stay there again. Our favorite breakfast spot is Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse, which is only a short 10 minute walk. As for ACL, bring your sporty walking shoes or bicycle if you are hoofing it to the festival. It is a full 2 miles. Also--take the back way--3rd Street! It was super fun strolling through the charming neighborhoods to Zilker Park. We were also pleasantly surprised to find plenty of neighborhood parking closer to the park--if you want to go that route. Lots of options! Looking forward to our next stay!
Tessa was very responsive and extremely accommodating for our last minute trip to Austin. The location is awesome for South Austin access, within walking distance of great restaurants, shopping, and other fun activities. The house was very clean and we enjoyed the Austin / Texan decor, it is also stocked with about everything I could imagine we would need. Would definitely recommend West O and will keep it in mind if we return to Austin.
My husband, brother and a friend stayed here for the Formula 1 race weekend. Fantastic space; we cooked in, walked to nearby eateries, and took the bus into town. Only needed the car to get to the track. The little patio was a great place to sit with a glass of wine and unwind after a long day at the races before gearing up for Austin nightlife! Thanks to Tessa for the guide to neighborhood places - my brother enjoyed morning walks to a local coffee shop.
Home was clean, spacious, and exactly as pictured with artistic touches throughout.
Although on a busy street, road noise was rarely disruptive.
Would definitely recommend West O to friends and family, So much more enjoyable than being cooped up in an anonymous chain hotel and gives you a sense of being part of the community!
We had the pleasure of staying at this wondeful home for our visit to Austin to attend the Moto GP. The location was just what we needed. It was close enough to Soco to go and grab a bite to eat and close enough to the highway to take us directly to the track. We felt right at home. Tessa and her husband were very welcoming. Thanks again Tessa for allowing us to stay in your home.
'WEST O' HOUSE is convenient to SXSW, ACL, and the new FORMULA 1. There is plenty of live music found within 1-4 miles of West O Cottage! On South 1st you can find live music at Freddie's Place (restaurant with outdoor seating, serves breakfast, 11 min. walk) and G&S Saloon (during SXSW) along with many coffee shops and restaurants. On South Lamar you will find (just to name a few) The Highball, Saxon Pub, The Broken Spoke, Hyde Park Grill, Central Market (yes they have music in the cafe) and also numerous restaurants! Then there is South Congress (So Co)with live music at The Continental Club and The Continental Gallery, Guero's outdoor patio, Jo's Coffee Shop (Sunday afternoon music) plus numerous restaurants and shops. First Thursdays on South Congress (So Co) is an event in itself with all the shops open late along with the restaurants and trailer eateries (an Austin phenomenon), empty lots that have 4 or more trailers that have been turned into mini kitchens! There are a couple of these lots on South 1st St. One of the most popular trailers is Gourdoughs Doughnuts on the corner of Monroe & So 1st St.
ACL 2012 is in Zilker Park on Barton Springs Rd. Go toward town on 3rd St to Jewell, then left to Bouldin, then right to Barton Springs, ( 1.4 miles and at this point you will be across the street from Palmer Events Center and all the hike-bike trails that go around the lake are just on the other side) take a left on B.S.rd and follow B.S.rd to Zilker Park! This route is 2.5 miles on google map.
South 1st Street has bus stops that go to town for those who want to leave the car behind but be prepared to get a cab back so you can stay late. 'West O' Cottage is 2.1 miles to town.
(I guess I could write a book) If you need more to do I will be happy to give you more! Check out the bars on Rainey Street!! Lots of fun and 2.7 miles away! These bars were old houses and they are very quaint!
I LOVE AUSTIN LIFE and you will too!
If you need to exercise and you belong to the YMCA there is one close, it is across the lake or just go jog around Lake Lady Bird one mile north. There is a year round pool at Stacy Park that is warm in the winter and free, take S 1st to W Live Oak and go right continue thru So Co to East Live Oak and see Stacy on the left (about 1 mile).
You can't do it all but you can try!!
