About Mathias Chouraki
Originally from France, I have been living in New York since 2000. My wife grew up in Oklahoma and we met in New York in 2002.
Mathias Chouraki purchased this Villa in 2009
Why Mathias Chouraki chose St-Francois
My wife and I fell in love with this property during a trip to Guadeloupe in 2008. A few months later, we found out it was for sale and bought it. At the time, there was a small house that was a tear down, which allowed us to build our dream beach house.
What makes this Villa unique
Very few houses in Guadeloupe are built directly on the beach with private access to the beach. Although the concept of private beach doesn't exist in France, the difficult access to the beach unless you are in the house makes it that it is seldom used by anyone else. Truly a remarkable location.

We were a family with 7 adults and an 18 month child, most of our group said the villa was better than the pictures. The location, right on the beach which is very private, and within walking distance of the town was perfect. Some enjoyed the pool more than anything but the ocean also provided a great swim and some nice snorkeling. There was an ample amount of toys for both adults and children. The kitchen is very well equipped and the only thing needed may be a knife sharpener. For food you have to try the Aleonard Dupas bakery, it was a daily stop, rotisserie chicken on the corner of Rue Saint Aude Ferly and Rue du Pdt Georges Pom, if you need a burger/pizza fix try a little place on the east end of Avenue Martin Luther King, it's on the south side, little place run by one man, a local spot not seen on review sites. Our best grilled fish was at Colombo, sit outside. Since we were newcomers to Guadeloupe we learned to keep the doors and windows to the bedrooms closed to keep the mosquitoes out, the air units are excellent and quiet. Mathias and Sophie, who greeted us, were very helpful with information on the area. We used Auto-Discount for our rental and their service was excellent since our hours of arrival and departure were out of their normal business hours. Overall a great place to stay.
Thank you Bruce,
It was a pleasure having you and your family in our villa. We’re glad you enjoyed it and I promise we’ll take care of these knives and make sure they’re sharp :)
It would be a pleasure to have you again in the future.
Great Trip, Great Friends, Great House
We returned a little over a week ago from Villa Iwanna. The house was lovely, it has a great open floor plan and is very well equipped. The house manager Sophie was adorable with great recommendations, and was only a text away when we had a question. The owner Mathias was also quite helpful with everything pre trip, including arranging the rental car. A few quick tips: The better grocery store is Casino, it is much more user friendly for Americans. (You will need to bring grocery bags with you ask Sophie where they are). Most of restaurants in town don't start serving dinner till around 7:15 if your looking to grab a quick bite earlier head towards the Marina for Pizza. Be prepared for some traffic when driving around, if your going to Base-Terre which I recommend, it can take longer than you think so plan for the day. The beach in front of the house is very private never saw a soul, you may want to bring your water shoes to go exploring. Knowing a little french can be helpful or put a translator app on your phone. All in all the trip was Fantastic and I recommend it highly!!
Our group of 8 adults from Memphis, TN, stayed at the villa June 3-10th, and had the best time. The house is amazing, with its own private beach and beautiful reefs yards from the back door. The house was perfect, safe, clean and in a great location. Mathias the owner was very accommodating and helped plan everything from transportation, to getting private chef, to boat rentals; basically anything we wanted or needed he helped me book prior to our arrival, making our trip worry free. The house is fully equipped with every amenity necessary for your stay and if we were to need anything, Fabienne the property manager was easily available to help us out. Mathias helped us book an amazing chef who came 3 days during the week and prepared lunch and dinner for us those days. The chef and his wife were awesome! The food was delicious and they served us and cleaned up after, I highly recommend hiring them for at least one meal! We couldn't have asked for a better place, I highly recommend it!
Villa Iwana is better than advertised
What a great stay. I have to say that the photos do not do justice to this modern villa. It has four large and separate air conditioned bedrooms, each with an en suite bath. There is a nice open kitchen, den and covered patio, connected to the back yard, pool and beach. And what a fantastic and isolated stretch of beach it is, basically shared with only one other home. The villa is electronically gated and secure, with a well maintained garden. For the kids there is better wifi than we have at home. All sorts of gear is available for water sports, including snorkeling equipment and a pair of kayaks. Although the home is very private and quiet, it is only one kilometer to the more hectic restaurant and harbor areas in St. Francois, a clean and safe little town. Perhaps the best part of our stay was the owner Mathias. He arranged for his favorite taxi driver Firmin to pick us up and to return us to the airport, and he also had a rental car delivered to and picked up from the villa - at less than half the price we would have paid at the airport in Point a Pitre! Mathias provided several suggestions during our stay for food and fun which were all very helpful. The wonderful Fabienne provided us with a welcome basket, and was there to help with any issues that might arise. Mathias was also available by text, and frequently checked with us during our stay. We hope to return again to Guadeloupe soon and will not consider staying anywhere other than Villa Iwana. Thanks Mathias for allowing us the use of your lovely home.
Thank you Ken for the generous comments. We are so glad you enjoyed the house and your stay. We hope you will come back to visit again! ~ Mathias & Janet
