Barb Silver Holt purchased this cottage in 2004
We bought Hemlocks in 2004 and spent 1.5 years carefully renovating it, making the most of the cozy spaces. It has been in Barb's family since it was built in 1939, and she has many happy memories of summers on the lake and learning to ski at Okemo and Killington.
Sitting in the hot tub looking out over the lake with a glass of wine after skiing or hiking is heaven. Being on Lake Rescue is peaceful serenity, and we come up as often as we can. The lake is magical any season, and almost always quiet. Hemlocks is our second home, we keep it immaculate, and it is filled with personal items and extra touches that make it warm, welcoming, and fun.
We stayed at the Hemlocks in August 2016 and loved it. The house has a delightful woodsy feel and is immaculately kept and very well organized. The deck facing the lake has comfortable chairs for reading or procrastinating. We used each of the two kayaks to explore the lake; there were also other boats available that we didn’t use. The outdoor shower is great. For most of our week there, the houses on each side of us were unoccupied, so it was quite quiet and private. During our last couple of days, people arrived at one of the houses but the hedge barrier between us continued to provide good privacy. Our location provided for both morning sun (down on the lawn, closer to the lake) and afternoon sun on the deck, and beautiful sunsets. All in all, a wonderfully relaxing week, and we’re looking forward to our return to The Hemlocks next year!
My husband and I recently spent a weekend at The Hemlocks and loved it! The house is extremely cozy and comfortable, and the owners have paid exceptional attention to the details. Not only is the house attractive, but it was exceptionally clean upon our arrival. It is stocked with everything you could need for cooking, relaxing, and being active. The setting is absolutely beautiful. If it had been warmer, I probably would have spent the whole weekend sitting out by the lake. Instead, we cozied up in the den, with books to read and a great view of the water. It was a perfect retreat for my husband and I, but I know our kids, ages 9 and 11, would love it, as well. It's a great family house. The owner was very easy to work with, and very quick to respond to my questions. I would definitely recommend a stay at The Hemocks.
My husband and I had a wonder stay in this lovely cabin. It had everything we wanted (hot tub, lake view, fireplace) and more. Great location--close to restaurants, hiking, and water activities. It was nice not to have to rent kayaks. The cabin is cozy, clean, beautifully decorated and stocked with everything we needed. Barb was very accommodating, especially since we booked it at the last minute. Would highly recommend!
Our family, (2 adults and 2 children,) had a wonderful stay at The Hemlocks. The house is perfectly appointed, charmingly decorated and has just a wonderful overall cozy feeling. Minutes away from either the Jackson Gore or Okemo base you are conveniently situated in an ideal location. And the vista of Lake Rescue is beautiful as well! Owner was easy to communicate with and very helpful as well. Two big thumbs up!
We can't say enough about our visit to the Hemlocks! The cottage is spectacular and right on the lake. Our family of six spent Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful place to kick back and unwind. It happened to snow a foot on the day we arrived. We were very impressed that the driveway was plowed several times over the course of the storm. The kitchen was well stocked. The beds were comfortable. The fireplace kept us warm and cozy. Plenty of room for the whole family to dine and play games. We enjoyed the hot tub, even though it was eleven degrees! The cottage was well maintained and very clean.
Barb was a pleasure to deal with! So accommodating and easy to communicate with. It is very clear that The Hemlocks has a special place in her heart.
Thank you for the wonderful memories. We can't wait to return!
We have now stayed at Hemlocks 2x this winter and cannot wait for the next trip up. The cottage is right on Lake Rescue and just a few minutes drive from Okemo so it is a perfect location. The Hemlocks is very cozy. It has great decor, warm fire place, comfortable couch/beds, etc. The hot tub is fantastic. Nothing better than getting back from long day on the slopes and soaking in the tub with a drink and view of the lake. The kitchen is great as well. We went up both times with a group of 7 people and didn't eat out once. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need and a gas grill in back for all your BBQ needs. The dining room table has plenty of space for food, drink and after dinner gaming (cards, dice, backgammon, etc.). Some other sweet little perks: Bose speaker system with input for iPod, computer, etc. Cross country skis and snowshoes and a crockpot!!!
The owners are amazing as well. Very accommodating and generous who you can tell take great pride in maintaining a beautiful cottage and ensuring their guests have a good time.
We highly recommend the Hemlocks and can't wait for the next time we can get up there. We did both times in the winter this year and hoping to see it in the summer!
The village of Ludlow, about 7 minutes from our cottage, is quintessential Vermont - it is all here in the Green Mountains and it is all beautiful - each season has its unique offerings. Many charming Vermont villages (Weston, Woodstock, Manchester, etc.) are within a 1 hour drive down beautiful country roads. Our house is on the largest lake in the area, 5 minutes from Okemo, 20 minutes from Killington. Good grocery shopping, restaurants and night-life are here in Ludlow, along with many other activities of your choosing, such as hiking, golfing, antiquing, and just relaxing. Besides great skiing/snowboarding, Okemo has a spa/fitness facility, ice skating rink, and 'adventure zone' with zip-lining and numerous other activities, excellent golf, swimming pool, etc. Several X-country ski areas are also nearby.
