My family has lived in and around Porltand for over 100 years. I currently work at one of Portland's many Farmers Markets selling organic produce. I love my house and it shows.
Margaret (Peggy) Kindred purchased this cottage in 1982
Close to everything you could want in Portland easy access to wine country and down town, the beach is 75 miles from the house. It is quiet and private, 1/3 acre yard, perfect for relaxing or playing, there is an outdoor ping pong table on the back patio with paddles and lots of balls and a basketball hoop out by the driveway the ball is in a bucket by the side of the house.
Location, location, location. You can be downtown or at the Oregon Health Science Center in 15 minutes, head east up to Historic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood to ski or play in the snow and or go West and be at the Oregon Coast in just an hour and one half. Fanno Creek Trail is just a few blocks away as is our own Garden Home Park with tennis courts
and sweet playground and an excellent place for a walk.
Our family of five (3 boys ages 10-16) was very comfortable and happy with this house! It's located on a quiet street surrounded by other nice homes. The house is inviting and immaculate with a large backyard and very close to shops and restaurants with a beautiful park around the corner. It's comfortably furnished with a nice floor plan; bathrooms and kitchen are spotless and amply stocked; large yard is well-tended. This place has been lovingly maintained and in a word, just feels like "home." We felt fortunate to have found this spot and would highly recommend it to anyone.
The title, along with all the other positive comments written by previous renters echo our feelings about Peggy K’s charming cottage. A little about us and our experience to follow:
My wife & I + one of 3 daughters live in Southern California. Our other 2 daughters live in the Beaverton / Portland area not far from this rental. We decided to have a belated family Christmas celebration on New Year’s Eve, followed by an early birthday party for our youngest of 2 grandkids who was about to turn 4. It was so nice to to have a comfy, cozy home in which to get together for our family gatherings once we could manage to all be together.
We especially enjoyed having the large Master Suite, nice family room, complete kitchen with all cookware, appliances & utensils. A big plus when our family got together was having the 2 recently remodeled bathrooms. One of the reasons we chose this property was the fact that my wife uses a walker and/or wheelchair. The entrance to the home has just one small step to allow easy access plus a stall shower in the master bathroom to allow her to comfortably take a shower as she is unable to step into a bathtub.
Owner, Peggy, was very cordial… even when we arrived before the official check-in time! :) She was available to communicate with when we had minor questions on a couple of occasions over our 8-day rental. As others have indicated, the home was in excellent condition and immaculate.
Great cottage in SW Portland - just a few blocks from a park, quiet neighborhood, minutes to restaurants, coffee shop, and grocery store. About 15 mins from downtown Portland. The house itself is very well appointed and comfortable. Our whole family enjoyed the huge backyard with beautiful trees and native shrubs, as well as a ping pong table! We regularly sat in the quiet living room and watched local birds visiting the property.
After searching numerous VRBO options, I was very glad to have chosen this charming cottage-like home. It was very reasonably priced and matched the description as well as the photos exactly. The "cottage" was easy to find, clean, well maintained, and I would chose to stay there again to include definitely recommending it to anyone who wanted a quiet, cozy place to settle in after a busy day of touring/sightseeing. The neighborhood was very nice; I hardly noticed a peep outside a dog barking here and there and some respectful musicians practicing down the road a piece. (Never did they interrupt our sleep.) If you don't like the quiet of no tv or radio, consider bringing something to accommodate that. We didn't spend much time in the village but stores, restaurants and anything you need are in close proximity. Portland is approximately 15 minutes or so away depending of traffic.
Kudos to you, Peggy, and thank you for offering you home. We had a wonderful stay.
Our family had a great time at this house. The neighborhood is quiet, safe, clean and welcoming. The house was fully stocked with all we needed. The rooms and beds were comfortable. The backyard was great for relaxing and playing ping-pong. Meg was terrific to work with as an owner. She answered all questions and proved to be very helpful. The only unique thing was there was no TV. We knew that going in and it was probably good for us. I like to watch TV.
This is such a charming, peaceful, space. It has obviously been loved with well thought out sitting areas. The kitchen is well stocked with most anything you might need. The bathrooms had recently been remodeled and were lovely, the towel are great!!! The yard was a lovely place to hang out with the dogs on a hot day. Coming back to the house at the end of the day was like coming home.
We are centrally located 15 minutes to the Oregon Zoo, Children's Museum and Oregon Museum of Science, and Downtown Portland with all it offers. One and one half hours to the beach and approximately One hour (weather permitting) to Mt. Hood area ski resorts. Washington Square Mall with Apple Store, Lucy, Nordstrom, Lego Store, Eddie Bauer Micro Brew Pubs and so much more within walking distance and/or a short bike ride.
