Great Location to Explore Messinia
I can't say enough great things about the stone tower. I picked it as a place to isolate myself and paint, and it's so incredibly beautiful and unusual that it made creativity come to me easily. It's a once-in-a-lifetime place to stay, made even better by the fact that Voula and her husband take such good care of you. I hope to be back someday!
Really authentic experience.
Romantic getaway at its best. We felt like VIP having all this property by ourself! The apartment was all new and very-very clean. We did two full-day trips in Messinia using the central location of this stone tower. Ancient Messini is very close and hiking trails are next to your door :) We try the fresh olive oil of the family's grove and grilled home-made bread at the wood stove. Amazing views and food.
Kim and his family were very kind with us!!
Kim gave us many helpful tips. His mom gave us great tomatoes and figs of their garden (Greek greek!!!) and his son played with our child!!!!!!! The apartment is very nice and cleaned...and so... wonderful 3 days in real Greece!
Kalamata is half-hour away. Plenty of other smaller and lesser known cultural, artistic, gastronomic and natural gems are all within easy reach.
The closest sea beach (‘Velika’) is at about 15 minutes’ drive. Messenia has more than 50 easy accessible/blue flag- beaches but you can find several other attractions and activities in the region.
After a 25 km you’ll find Ancient Messini, a vast ancient city (as extensive as those of Olympia and Epidavros). Picturesquely situated on a hillside below the village of Mavrommati and still undergoing excavation, the site comprises a museum, a large theatre, an agora, a vast Sanctuary of Asclepius and the most intact and impressive of all ancient Greek stadiums.
If you use our Stone Tower as a base, you could spend several days in the area and always find wonderful things to see and to do. Waterfalls, hiking, biking, cooking lessons, wine testing, agro-tourism, museums (Kalamata has a great museum), daily cruises/fishing (June - September with our family boat), and day trips to: Pylos, Methoni, Koroni, Petalidi, Kalamata, Kardamilli, Taygetos, etc.
Aristomenis village is in the middle of Messenia region also, so each city is very close, like Kalamata, Sparta, Megalopoli, Tripoli, Kyparissia, Pylos. We have a bus stop just out of our Farm, but bus runs are few. Buses start from the closer, important bus-station in Kalamata, that is 30 Km from our farm. If you are a good walker there are several attractions in walking distance, there are many more if you have a bike or a car.
