This home is exactly what you expect, cozy furnishing, tasteful decor and views of the Atlantic that won't find anywhere else on Folly. If you wonder where the name of this home came from, here is the story: The Star of the West was a civilian ship hired by the United States government to transport military supplies and reinforcements to the garrison of Fort Sumter before the American Civil War. The first shots of the Civil War occurred January 9, 1861 when the Star of the West was fired upon by cadets, from The Citadel, who were stationed at the Morris Island battery as the ship entered Charleston Harbor. One of the cadets was related to the current homeowner making Folly a very special place for them and for everyone who stays here.
The Event Capacity is 100 people, any event larger that 65 people requires Port-A-Potty rental and you must submit event details and plans to Carolina One Vacation Rental Staff.
Please note that this home books exactly one year in advance and reserves first right to book to guest at the property.
Really loved the house. Lots of bedrooms, with three upstairs where we could put young children to bed early undisturbed. Especially liked the very open kitchen and living room, and the big tv's that were great for sports. The extra refrigerator, oven, and dishwashers were also a big plus. The house is steps from the beach, and has a great ocean view with lots of rocking chairs on the back porch. An easy walk from Center Street restaurants, bars, and shops. Check in was very easy, the house was clean and well appointed, and as described.
Great house! Plenty of room to spread out. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. The double porches are great for any time of day to enjoy the wonderful view. Easy walk to Folly and the pier. We had a blast!
We had fully 25 people staying at the house and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house is beautifully decorated and has comfortable furnishings. We loved the covered porch downstairs and the sun porch upstairs. Having a dining table that could seat so many was a dream! The "kid's" room upstairs with multiple beds was perfect for the little ones. The only difficulty we had is the fridge doesn't make much ice, so we were having to go out daily to get more.
Awesome house! Stayed for a long weekend with 20 girls and the house could not have been more perfect. Everyone had a bed and it never felt cramped and the double porches were amazing! The Only thing that could make this house better would be to replace the full beds with queens as they are very small for two people to share that are not a couple. Otherwise fantastic!
Our group of 3 families had a great time at the Star of the West on Folly Beach! Home was plenty spacious enough for everyone to have their own space. House was very clean upon arrival and Alex was quick to get a hold of to answer any questions. Walking distance to Center Street and a great beach in front of the home .
This property was just about perfect for our stay for the Cooper River Bridge Run. There was 18 of us, friends-all adults. We have all traveled together in the past several times for races. There was enough queen and king beds, that all couples were so comfortable. There was enough hot water when we came home from the race to take showers! All the bedrooms were spacious, and the bathroom set up was great. The location was excellent. Right on the beach, parking worked well for all our cars, the decks were awesome, the kitchen and eating space was exceptional. We do make a lot of our own food, and love to sit and eat "as a family" together. This house gave us that opportunity. The property was clean and seemed well taken care of. it was a short walk to Loggerheads Restaurant/Bar-had fun there, and a couple more blocks to the main street with more restaurants and shops. Really had an exceptional weekend at this house. Would highly recommend for both families and groups. The only small gripe I have is-several of the remotes for the TV's didn't work-batteries maybe? And could have used more toilet paper in the bathrooms-1 small roll per bath, didn't quite do it. But would definitely look beyond that and stay there again. Thank you for offering your property to us for the long weekend.
