Occidental Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Hi- we are offering this review- (written by real guests)-so you can read what people are saying about their stay, and what the Wine Country Love Nest EXPERIENCE is all about:

We can not say enough about our experience at the Love Nest. Robert and Jeanne have attended to every detail to make their guest feel comfortable and at home. The cabin is beyond inviting itself, but the little touches like chocolates and wine and fresh cut flowers left for you, make you feel like you were the only guests they ever had. We arrived to fresh eggs, OJ and cinnamon rolls in the fridge, which we promptly turned into breakfast the next morning. Occidental is a great little town, and we took advantage of it's great proximity to both the Sonoma and Napa wineries. We enjoyed all of Robert and Jeanne's great suggestions for local eateries, as well as hitting some local farmer's markets to do some cooking of our own in the amazing kitchen. After a long day of wine tasting or enjoying the sights, our favorite thing to do, was enjoying the amazingly warm and peaceful pool and spa area. It was like swimming in the trees. We slept with the windows open, just to hear the wind rustling and the sounds of nature...what a way to fall asleep!! We loved every minute of our time at the Love Nest, and will be back to celebrate another anniversary 😀 Thank you for an anniversary to truly remember!! A. and B.

There---- Now for the FUN STUFF! :-)

One of most special features of the cabin and it's surroundings is it's PRIVACY. The owners and caretakers live on the 6-acre property, but you won't see or hear them unless you need something. Another feature is it's security.... there is one driveway to the cabin, and it is monitored 24/7 by our staff. You can unwind in total privacy and serenity at the Wine Country Love Nest, while enjoying....all to yourselves.... a huge selection of amenities! Read on........

We have been hosting guests from all over the world for over 3 years. Celebrities and famous folks have stayed here in complete privacy. We book to 100% occupancy early, so get your preferred dates NOW! :-)

The Wine Country Love Nest is a spectacular couples-only retreat. LUXURIOUS, PRIVATE, INTIMATE & BEAUTIFUL.

OUR MOTTO: "Always serve up the most luxurious, PRIVATE and relaxing experience possible to our guests. Provide them with a visit that they will never forget!"

We give 110% of our attention to every detail of preparation for the Love Nest to always exceed your- (and our)- expectations. The pool, spa, sauna, redwood deck and patio are not shared with anyone. You will have it all to yourselves in complete privacy.

The solar heated pool opens on May 1 each year, and closes on November 1 of every year.

We have resurrected a 64-year-old hand made log cabin and turned it into a very unique and intriguing home. It is all together beautiful, luxurious and intimate.

The Love Nest sleeps 2 Adults in a TEMPUR-PEDIC 'Cashmere' California King bed with UPSCALE linens, and will accommodate 2 more Adult guests- (if approved)- in super-comfy twin beds in the "tree house"- a small, cozy, heated room just 10 steps from the main cabin. Our goal was to retain the charm of the home while COMPLETELY rebuilding every aspect of it's infrastructure.

We installed all new windows, glass doors, appliances, electrical system, plumbing system and a radiant-heated Chinese slate floor-(Floors are heated during Winter). Every room in the cabin has this slate floor, which is of many hues and a fascinating pattern. The gourmet kitchen features new upscale stainless appliances, all granite countertops, and gorgeous blue cabinets that were custom fitted by a local craftsman. You'll also have a nice Wolf stove with 4 burners and a big griddle for those mornings when you want to cook your own breakfast.

The Bathroom features a huge curved walk-in glass block shower built for two. There's a big skylight above, and a copper shower head from above. The bath also features a beautiful polished concrete vanity that was crafted by a local artist.

You'll have a 7.1 Yamaha/Denon/Klipsch/Velodyne sound system in the living room that is a real treat. There are built-in high-end Klipsch speakers all around the room. You will also enjoy an HD 8' diameter screen and a ceiling-mounted Sony HD projector. The combination of the screen and the sound system creates an absolutely terrific movie or sports viewing experience!

In the bedroom you'll have a wall-mounted HD 55' LED flat screen and a built-in Bose sound system. There is one more HD flat screen in the living room near the fireplace that's perfect to cuddle up in the afternoon on the cozy love seat to watch the fire and some TV. There's also a gorgeous new Yamaha Disclavier PLAYER piano for you to enjoy.

High-speed wireless internet service and complimentary long-distance telephone service within the United States are provided.

If you like to be super-cozy, you will love the heated slate floors during the Winter. Fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom top it all off. The living room fireplace will be loaded and ready for you to strike a match and have a romantic fire for your first night's stay! And……..firewood is always provided!

You'll have a generous amount of Keurig K Cups and a Keurig coffee maker. When you arrive, you will find some essentials have been supplied- Half and Half in the fridge along with some farm-fresh eggs and some O.J. Or- why not take a walk to nearby Occidental and have breakfast at Howard Station- a historic establishment with great breakfasts.

The outside of the Love Nest really fun, too!

THE SPA- called the 'Serena Bay'- It's BIG. It's a wonderful experience to gaze at the stars while soaking in this special spa. It's filled with fresh spring water from our own spring.

The POOL...… It's GORGEOUS, and solar heated during the warm season. (The pool is closed during the low season- November thru March). The adjacent lanai has a bar crafted from an ancient slab of reclaimed redwood that was harvested right off the property. The pool is surrounded by a redwood deck. It's fun to hang out in the expansive open-air 'surf shack' themed lanai by the pool in any kind of weather. There is a stainless gas barbecue that's always ready for grilling the dinner of your choice. On the patio you'll also find a charming fire pit for those starry evenings- making good conversation and s'mores. It is always stocked with firewood for you- just light a match and enjoy!

The outdoor sauna- made of all clear cedar wood, and shaped like a wine barrel. It's located just a few steps outside of the Love Nest's door. It's really a treat!

Sun? Lots of it! The Love Nest is located in a redwood forest, yet you'll enjoy a VERY sunny spot. You can gaze across the valley and you'll see that the Love Nest is actually located higher than many of the 100' tree tops in the canyon. Occasionally you can spot a Bald Eagle soaring high above, or the Red Tail Hawk mating pair that lives nearby.

If you are an outdoor adventurer you are going to love this place. You will be close to exciting open-air activities. Sonoma Canopy Tours will have you zip-lining over the Redwoods and taking in the very best view of the valley. Be sure to investigate the spectacular sky bridges and the 30 foot spiral staircase along the way. It is a riveting, astounding, and awe-inspiring journey that is sure to leave you with lifelong memories.

Get Ready To Explore And Restore............

If laid back style is more your thing or if you have had enough of an adrenaline rush for one day then it is a good idea to head into town. There you will find fantastic restaurants like the one at the Union Hotel which has unbeatable food and hospitality. If you like brew pubs, stop in at BARLEY AND HOPS for a great selection of beers on tap, live music and EXCELLENT food. There is also plenty of local artwork to check out and several quaint gift shops to explore before wandering back to the Love Nest for a much deserved respite.

We are on the grid, but our 10 KV Solar System provides for most of our electrical needs- We sell excess electricity back to the utility company during the Summer time.

We live close by on the 6 acre property and are extremely respectful of your privacy. If you need anything, we are a phone call or text away. You won't hear from us unless you ask!

OUR MOTTO: "Always serve up the most luxurious, PRIVATE and relaxing experience possible to our guests. Provide them with a visit that they will never forget!"

About Robert and Jeanne

Jeanne and I have been happily married for over 30 years. Robert was born in San Francisco and educated as a teacher- Jeanne was born in Santa Rosa and is an RN. We have lived in Sonoma County all of our lives. Our interests and hobbies are bicycling, traveling, hiking, kayaking, swimming, appreciating music and the arts, and enjoying the wonderful community of Occidental in which we have lived our entire life together. We always try to make the most of every experience that life offer us. We invite you to come, stay, and enjoy a visit at our very special cabin!

Robert and Jeanne purchased this cabin in 1956

Why Robert and Jeanne chose Sonoma County

Our property was purchased by my grandparents in 1956. Robert moved onto the property in the 70's to help them get along so they would not have to go into a care facility. Robert had fallen in love with this cabin when he was a little guy, and his dream was to care for the cabin after the grandparents passed. After his grandparents passed away, he and Jeanne purchased the property from the family's estate. It is a serene and beautiful sanctuary. The Wine Country Love Nest is a very special couple's retreat. We love it and we know that you will love it too! Everything you need for a very enjoyable stay is included in the rental fee, save food and drinks. We provide all of your firewood for the two fireplaces, and even your first morning's continental breakfast.

What makes this cabin unique

A special benefit of the Wine Country Love Nest is it's LOCATION. It is located near Bodega Bay and Northern California's stunning coastline on the Pacific Ocean- (20 minutes away) and a very short drive to some of California's finest wineries. There are wineries only 20 minutes away! There are vineyards within walking distance in our neighborhood!

You can bicycle to the charming little hamlet of Occidental in 5 minutes.

The close proximity to Occidental and it's wonderful restaurants, pubs and shops make for a very relaxing vacation. You don't have to go far to eat, shop, go wine tasting, go antiquing, ride, kayak or hike. The Wine Country Love Nest is centrally located to all that Northern California has to offer. You will love it!

Surrounded by trees!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures don't do this place justice. You're surrounded by redwood trees, the cabin is SO spacious and luxurious, the owners have thought of EVERYTHING, and the caretaker Asha is fantastic.

We will definitely be back.

Tranquity with amenities

  • 5 of 5

From the greeting in your driveway to the beautiful card when we left, you made us feel like family. The attention to detail with the assortment of wind chimes and patio amenities, pond, charcoal grill, lighting, theatre, essential items for morning in frig, spa, wine, chocolate, birdfeeders, amazing roses.....transported us to a place of peace that we have never been able to achieve on a trip before now. My husband actually relaxed and enjoyed the fact that there was no cell phone reception; and after we got supplies, we had no reason to go back down the mountain until we checked out. Thank you for your hospitality!

Six Stars!

  • 5 of 5

Despite the reviews and photos online, we weren't prepared for just how fabulous this place really is. If we could give it six stars, we would. It's a magical property, and it's obvious the hosts and caretakers have gone to great lengths to make sure visitors have an enjoyable and restful stay. We basically hunkered down and spent our entire time at the cabin, cooking in its well-appointed kitchen, watching baseball and movies on the biggest screen we've ever seen, and lounging around the hilltop pool and cabana area. If we'd stayed longer, we probably would've taken some of Robert's suggested hikes and drives, although the cabin itself is just so relaxing and comfortable (and totally private) that you don't want to leave it.

Here are just a few features that deserve special mention. The closet: Actually a small room, this is where we stored most of our stuff so it didn't clutter up the bedroom area and bathroom. It has a skylight and window so it's bright and airy, and tons of space to hang clothes (or stash them in the bureau or toss on the large bench). The bed: Even though I literally had to jump to get onto this tall bed, it was hands down the most comfortable mattress and bedding we've ever experienced. The floor: Although we aren't sure what it's made of (polished bluestone tiles?) it's gorgeous and runs throughout the cabin, adding to its natural elegance and clean lines.

Can't wait for a return visit!

Peaceful, Beautifully Maintained - A Diamond in the Forest!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stumbled upon this as a getaway for my birthday! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. I am disabled and walk with a cane, and this cabin was not only romantic, it was extremely therapeutic. The warm pool was sparkling clean and inviting. We swam of almost an hour. We enjoyed the hot tub with its mood setting lights (we liked the purple). The welcome smell of cedar is the first thing that hits you in the super clean and cozy sauna. There were no problems; however, I think the fact that that Robert was available when needed was also an added comfort. So many times when we have rented vacation homes and run into issues the management response time is less than desirable. Most of all, the tranquil feeling of the cabin is what we took away from our stay - which you can't put a price on. We highly recommend this vacation rental and will definitely make arrangements to return.

An experience unlike any other!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Robert and Jeanne's and words cannot express what a wonderful time we've had. Their property is simply magical and romantic. They've got just about every amenity you could want and are such wonderful hosts. Both in the summer months and winter months the property is equally enjoyable. There are great spots to eat in Occidental though it's quite hard to tear yourself away from the pool, hot tub and coziness of the cabin.
